Monopoly - Deluxe Anniversary Edition (1984) Review

Monopoly - Deluxe Anniversary Edition (1984)

The board itself looked clean, but a little dingy and had a couple annoying black specks. It doesn't look *brand* new but more like the 20yr old set I presume it is. Although half the tokens were silver and half were goldish and a bunch of extra plastic houses (presumably from a regular monopoly set) were thrown in, all the pieces in the Deluxe Edition were accounted for (32 total wooden houses and hotels) and the money, cards and info booklet were in excellent condition -- no rips or folds or tears. Overall, a charming deal in good condition.

We used this as a decoration for my sons rehearsal dinner.
It worked great. We were disappointed that "The Master's"
wasn't the Boardwalk but only because of a personal reason.
:-) All in all it worked out great and provided fun.

Trivial Detective Game Review

Trivial Detective Game
Average Reviews:

I always wished that Clue had actual clues for you to solve!! I always thought Clue was pretty boring and there wasn't much thought involved. This game is awesome! The only thing is that it is pretty outdated, so if you were born in the past 20 years or so, there's a good chance that you won't figure out many of the clues and references. Of course if you pay attention to history and pop culture throughout time, then you may not have a problem. Either way, you still may be able to figure the clues out. The setup is similar to Clue, but there is trivia to solve. You race around the board visiting different places to pick up clues, piece them together and solve the questions before the rest of the players. I find it quite amusing. There are also some twists and turns involved, such as the trivia barrel where you can essentially imprison other players for a few turns. I just wish they had a more recent version as well as this one. Oh well, I recommend it regardless.

Hey, listen up! If you like trivia games and you like detective games, then Trivial Detective is the game for you. The questions in this game are harder than the questions in most trivia games; but in this game you can travel around the board picking up clues to help you figure out the answers. Many of the clues are also in the form of triva questions; so the more trivia you kow, the easier it will be for you to interpret the clues and win the game. You'll find clues at twleve locations around the board, including the Library, City Hall, Movie Theater, Sorts Arena, Radio & TV Station, Art Museum, Museum of Natural Science, and the Geographical & History Society

Clue DVD Game Review

Clue DVD Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Clue DVD is only for people who love Clue. (If you are just a moderate fan, it might be more than you want.) Instead of just figuring out 3 things as in regular Clue, you have to figure out 4. And there are 10 possibilities under each of the 4 categories. Plus some of the clues only become available as the game moves along. (But there are extra clues given by the Inspector and the Butler.) So it is much more involved!
As a previous reviewer says, the instructions are not as clear as they could be. On the basic menu that comes up for each player's turn, it is confusing what you are supposed to do. You can either move to the next room, or use a secret passage. If you just move to an adjacent room, then you don't use your remote on the DVD menu. You only press the remote if you use a secret passage. Then when you get to a room by either of those two means, you also have to make a choice. If you are making a suggestion about who, where, when, or what, then you don't use the remote. But if you summon the butler, look at the inspector's notebook, or want to see an item card, then you use the remote. Tricky? Yes, but it is not too difficult to catch on to.
Once we got used to the game, it took us about an hour to finish a mystery. We have thoroughly enjoyed it. Regular Clue seems tame by comparison.

Step out of your living room and into the mystery. Scotland Yard needs your help to crack 12 challenging interactive crimes, such as "The Monte Carlo Affair." Find out who, what, where and when the crimes took place. Investigate all your favorite suspects, plus four others, and more crime scenes. Collect "virtual evidence" as you go, and use the DVD to make secret accusations.
Game includes game board, tons of game pieces including character figures, and one DVD. There's even a bonus game for more mystery-solving excitement. For 2 to 8 players.

Large Tumbling Tower Game with a Wooden Box (12 Inch) Review

Large Tumbling Tower Game with a Wooden Box (12 Inch)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered the Large Tumbling Tower Game expecting the game pieces to be a lot larger (something I could use in my classroom for game time), but the game is more the size of a traditional "Jenga" type game. What I love about the game is the presentation/storage box, which makes game set-up and clean-up quick and easy. The game pieces are of fine quality with no rough edges to get splinters on, which is also a plus. Overall, I am satisfied with this purchase.

Based on the old African building block game, this classic game will be a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Put your architectural skills to the test by building a tower out of the wooden blocks. Break the ice but don't break the tower. A great recreational and learning tool that is simple to learn and easy to play, but don't get your hopes up or your tower may come toppling down!

Battleship Review

Battleship
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a GenX, I grew up with Battleship and Electronic Battleship (cooler). Its a great game for young kids. 5 or 6 is about as young as you want to go on age. The kids have to learn both grid notation and also the transformation that their attack grid is an analog to my defense grip/ship grid and vice versa. It takes kids a little while to grasp this concept fully. The game is suspenseful and fun for kids.
The drawback with this version of Battleship is pretty common to a lot of products. The manufacturer has done a lot of cost reduction to the game since you saw the version you played on as a kid. There is a lightweight and cheap feel to it now. One example is the white/red pegs. They used to be large, about 2cm and solid. Now they are about 1/2 cm and hollow to save on plastic cost. Just one example, but you get the idea, everything about it has been spared down to the minimal possible costs. They even have the user apply the outside Battleship decal stickers to save on a few pennies of assembly cost. This sort of makes sense. They are selling the game based on nostalgia we all have for it that we want to pass on to our kids. This games sales driver is not word of mouth on high build quality or durability. Therefore, charge as much as possible and cut costs at every conceivable location. To this I would say to the manufacturer, shame on you guys.
A better bet would be to find an older battleship game with better quality on eBay or go dig up your old set from your parents basement. Those sets were built so well that they should still be fine.

This is the only review that I have ever written in my life, and unfortunately it is going to be negative. I played this game as a kid. I was so excited to introduce this game to my kids that I let them open it as an early Christmas present. I was VERY disappointed, when we opened the box to find a flimsy game board that was much smaller than the original board, and cheap game pieces. Big letdown. I was under the impression from another review that a case was included....nope, no case, just a cheaply made board and pieces with nothing to contain them. Now I am going to see if Amazon will let me return this.

My family enjoys this game, but I took off one star because a family edition should be truly family friendly - and that doesn't include having to explain off-color movie references or celebrity gossip to younger kids. We've had to pull a number of the adult cards to avoid age-inappropriate questions.

Trivial Pursuit 25th Anniversary Edition Review

Trivial Pursuit 25th Anniversary Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have love T.P. since it came out in the 1980's. I still have my original, but was happy to update my game with this. Not only do the added levels make this fun, it also allows for my kids to play (with different answer levels we can keep theirs on an easier plane).
My biggest problem is the incorrect answers. We have only played this with the family twice (one session lasted 8 hours...because we did not put in a time limit) the other about 3. Both times we came across questions whose printed answers were incorrect.
For example...History: 5/6 (on difficulty level) "Who was pope immediately prior to John Paul II?" They provide the answer as "Pope Paul VI"...but lest we forget there was a Pope John Paul I who served for about one month as pope after Paul VI,but died in his sleep bringing forth John Paul II. So JP I is the correct answer.
So, as long as you do not mind having a laptop at the ready to double check things like this...or marking up your cards with the correct answers...you will have some fun with this.

Imagination Cash Cab Board Game Review

Imagination Cash Cab Board Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We were excited to get this game for Christmas, but quickly found that the "simple" rules are just too simple to really make complete sense. However, the biggest problem is that the questions are just too easy for adults and yet not necessarily the kind of information that kids would know. For example, a high level question, for $200, is: "Named for igloo-dwelling residents, what greeting is performed by rubbing noses?" (answer: Eskimo kiss). That's about as hard as they get and therefore, no need for the "strike" cards...no one has been tossed out of a cab yet. We will continue to play the game with our kids (ages 8 and 11), but we might need to make up a few rules of our own to make it more of a fun challenge.
We're hoping for a DVD version of this game where we can feel like we've just hopped into the real Cash Cab and are actually meeting our favorite game host as he throws questions back over his shoulder while navigating the streets of NYC! Now that would be fun!

Our kids love the Sequence games. We started off with Sequence for Kids and they loved matching. Our son, who is 5 now, was very interested in States and Capitals and loved the States and Capitals Sequence game, so when he showed an early interest in learning how to add and subtract it was an easy decision to purchase this game. Since he already knew how to add and subtract using his fingers or objects, we just added a calculator for him to figure out the larger equations.
