Monopoly Junior Deep Sea Adventure Review

Monopoly Junior Deep Sea Adventure

I bought this game for my 6 year old, and we have had more fun playing it. The rules have been simplified just right for younger children to play without losing a lot of the fun for adults. I especially liked the use of lower denominations on the money - $1, $2, $3, $4, and $5. This allows my son to act as bank and has been wonderful practice for him in simple math and making change. Each card also contains interesting and educational facts about different sea creatures. I would defiantly recommend this game!

Scene It? Deluxe Disney 2nd Edition Review

Scene It Deluxe Disney 2nd Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you're already got last year's Scene It? Disney Super Game Pack you'll find a lot of repeat questions in this new game, but if not it's a lot of fun. If you're going to spend family time in front of the TV, laughing with each other as you try to answer these trivia questions sure beats just sitting there.
Our family has the original Disney Scene It?, but we like this version a lot better. Compared to the old DVD, this package has more types of questions, more questions altogether (as it's spread out over two discs) and covers all the recent Disney films, all the way through Ratatouille. What we liked best about it, though, is that it includes Party Play. That gives you the option to skip the gameboard, have the trivia questions appear automatically one after the another and just sit back and try to out think each other. (Playing that way is unfair to younger kids, but with our 13-year-old we need all the help we can get.)
Another nice touch: the game tokens. They're antique brass versions of Ariel, Lightning McQueen, Nemo and Tinker Bell.

The popular board game that has players watching video clips and shouting out answers is now available in an upgraded Disney theme. This second edition of Screenlife’s Scene It? Disney game is chock full of questions, characters, and clips from both new and classic films from the family-friendly giant. From older films like Alice in Wonderland and The Little Mermaid to new favorites such as The Incredibles and Ratatouille, the game asks questions about unforgettable characters, songs, and scenes.

Pop the game’s DVD into your player to start the magic and mayhem. Loaded with new clips and puzzles, this updated version touches on elephants that fly to cursed pirates and all things in between. There are over 1,000 questions on the 160 trivia cards, so even if you see the same snippet from the 180 on the DVD during the same game, the question about that scene will be different. Special technology randomizes the order of the clips to ensure fresh fun each time the game is played.

The themed, interactive game board can be spread out for longer games, or folded when you don’t have a lot of time (or players). To help you move around the board there are four metal player tokens (Nemo, Ariel, Tinkerbell, and Lightning McQueen), one six-sided die to determine how many spaces to move, and one eight-sided die that determines the category to be played. Once the dice have been rolled, clips are watched, questions are asked, and it’s revealed just how much you know. Use observation, memory, wordplay, and puzzle-solving to answer various challenges about the imaginative characters, celebrated songs, and timeless storytelling you see on-screen. Categories range from Take Three and Songs to Mousellaneous and more.

Not a longtime watcher of Disney and Pixar films? Don’t worry. This game is easy enough to learn and fun enough to play even for those who are not overly familiar with the plots. The trivia cards include questions for adults with separate ones for children, and some questions can be answered simply by paying close attention to the movie clips. There are also 30 Buzz cards available to help (or occasionally hinder) your progress. If these reasons aren’t enough to tempt you into a game on your own, then co-captain the Black Pearl with a friend or family member and play a few rounds in team mode first.

A TV, DVD player, and remote control are needed but not included. The DVD includes an on-screen demonstration of game play.

What’s in the box
2 DVDs
1 Flextime game board
1 six-sided die
1 eight-sided category die
4 collectible metal player tokens
160 trivia cards
30 Buzz cards
4 reference cards

Clue Jr. The Case of the Missing Cake Review

Clue Jr. The Case of the Missing Cake
Average Reviews:

This is a VERY easy version of Clue. The spaces are easily marked and the directions are clearly written. My 3 year old daughter and I play this game and she loves it. She doesn't quite understand that she is not supposed to tell me what is under each person/furniture, but she does understand the rest of it. I've heard that Clue Jr. "Case of the Missing Chocolate Cake" is a lot harder to play and is very confusing. This version of Clue Jr. would be a better option. The pieces get knocked over sometimes, I think they are a little too big/tall for the board, but they are pretty sturdy. I would recommend this to any child who loves to play games.

Charades for Kids Review

Charades for Kids

We play this Charades game as a family with ages from 5 to 55 and we all have fun acting out the clues. But we don't use the game board at all; we have never thought it added to the game at all. The best part about charades is the acting not the board competition, so we just use the cards and sometimes the dice. Each card has 3 options/clues going from easiest to hardest. We'll stack up the cards; each person takes a turn picking the top card and acting out one of the clues. Sometimes we'll just pick one on the card we want to do or sometimes we'll roll the dice to determine it. The clues are typically animals and actions (e.g. brush your teeth). They are not movies or books like in other charades, so they don't get dated. It's too bad they don't make this game anymore; we found a used copy to give as a gift.

Blokus 3D Board Game Review

Blokus 3D Board Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Comparing Blokus 3-d to its predecessor Rumis, it's a much better value. The components are better and the grid on the playboard helps keep the pieces in place. You sacrifice 2 templates (Rumis has 6, 3-d has 4), but the quality more than compensates.
The strategy in 3-d is nothing like that in regular Blokus. Instead of connecting at corners, 3-d requires you to always have one face of your piece touching another, making blocking in 3-d more critical and dangerous since you could be completely blocked early in play. 3-d also seems somewhat quicker, so it won't require the same time commitment regular Blokus does.
Other than the lack of two templates, you may be disappointed in the quality for the price, although 3-d is an improvement compared to other Educational Insights games. I have Blokus and Travel Blokus also, and with those you get the feeling the game costs no more than a few bucks to produce but sells for much higher than the quality would normally dictate. It's a shame Education Insights skimps on quality AND charges you such a premium, but 3-d is a step in right direction, so I'm hoping the company realized this and is correcting it.
Overall I'd recommend buying. 3-d has its own uniqueness and challenging aspect. Plus, it's a nice change of pace to regular Blokus due to its quickness and strategy differences.

This exciting addition to the Blokus line is a game of 3-D strategy that sharpens spatial awareness and critical thinking skills. Players strategize to outwit their opponents while constructing 4 unique building plans, block by block. After the last move, each player counts the number of their individual squares visible from above. The player with the most squares is the winner.

Peaceable Kingdom / Spin-and-Go Milk and Cookies Game

Very engaging game for all of us who were involved (children and adult alike). My 8 year old nephew mentioned that it was a little "too easy" for him, however the game can be altered to make it more challenging. Instructions were very simple to pick up even for the youngest of our participants who is 4 years old, which kept things competitive but not too intimidating. Would recommend for families with younger children.

Cowabunga Review

Cowabunga
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this game for my nephew for Christmas and he/we love it!
The game is very educational in both math and strategy skills. The cows are adorable and the illustrations on the cards got more than a few giggles out of both kids and adults.
In a time where video games seem to overpower educational toys, it is my job as the "cool Aunt" to provide board games, something lost I'm afraid to today's youth. However, my nephew wanted to play this one, over and over and over, forgetting about video games for awhile.
The game basics are pretty simple, you have to lay down cards until a wave crests (addition) and then bring the wave back down to shore (subtraction). When the wave hits a certain number, you or an opponent get a special wipeout card. If you lay a card and the total of the wave (someone has to keep track throughout) equals the number on their wipeout card... WIPEOUT, you have to grab a cow. The object is to have the least amount of cows at the end of the game.
I highly recommend this game to everyone, you won't be disappointed! This game is fun for both kids and adults!
Cowabunga dude!

Over and Out Review

Over and Out
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Over and Out" is a fun little "adder" with a couple of interesting twists. Nothing really original about the concept: just keep the count from going over the "Tip Top" number. Go over the Tip Top, and you lose the round: not really a revolutionary idea there. Nothing really intriguing about the "action" cards, either: you can reverse the order of play, draw a new Tip Top, or bring the count right to the current Tip Top. (The latter being a huge help when the Tip Top number is 66 and the count is in the teens.)
What gives the game a fresh feel is the chips: Each player starts with 4 chips of his color, and all players are dealt 4 cards to start. However, if you go Over and lose a round, you lose a chip--and there's no way to get it back. And when cards are dealt for later rounds, you only receive as many cards in your hand as you have chips in front of you. So if you're down to two chips, you only get two cards to play with. Run out of chips, and you're out of the game; last player standing wins.
(One "house rule" I recommend is that if you've down to your last chip, and thus have a one-card "hand", you have to keep your one card face down in front of you until you actually play it. Since you have no choice but to play the card you've got, it doesn't matter if you see it or not. It adds a little bit of suspense to the game, particularly if only two players are left in a one-on-one, winner-take-all final hand.)
One downside to all the more players can make for a VERY long game. If you want to play a full 8-player, 4-chip game, give yourself a *lot* of time to finish, because you might end up having to play 31 rounds to determine a final winner. This is not a game you can whip out and finish in five minutes, since every extra player adds four more rounds to the game.
However, if you've got a bunch of friends who want to spend a night at the table chatting over a friendly (or even not-so-friendly!) game of cards, this might be the perfect game. There's not a lot of strategy involved, play is very straightforward, and there's not too much to keep track of beyond what the total count is. It requires some concentration, but not a lot of heavy-duty thinking.
Overall, not a game to write home about, but certainly not the worst way to pass an evening.

This game is a ton of fun. I played it with a mixed group of people ages 26-56. Other reviews have went over many times how the game is played. I'll focus on the benifits of playing it.
Four ladies/young women sitting around the table that all of a sudden are getting up acting like animals, saying funny things, acting out all manner of actions. (acting like a snake with sound picture that) We laughed until we cried. I don't know when I have laughed so hard. I laugh even to think how we looked to others. And the way it looks when it gets to 8 things in a row it can be really funny.
It is a great game for memory building and good belly laughs are proven to be good for the health, mind and body. The cards are well coated and very durable as is the board and game markers. I would say this game will withstand years of laughter giving fun.
As we were playing one of the women's husand came in the house and thought we had lost our minds, jumping around like monkeys, evil laughing, swimming and saying "gotcha", in a word it's a HOOT.
A word of warning...if you are over 50 you won't want to have a full bladder if you know what I mean. LOL

Khet: The Laser Game Review

Khet: The Laser Game

An excellent strategy game. Moves, including just rotation of a peice, van have serious consequences. The various configuration of starting positions keep any single strategy from consistently being successful. Just started using it and my son (age 7) and I are anxious to continue experimenting. No doubt the "cool factor" of a laser game has some effect in his enthusiasm, but he's learning strategy well. The company also quickly replaced a defective game without any problems. Highly recommended

Khet, The Laser Game, is played on an 80-square grid with a pharaoh and obelisk playing king and pawn, sort of, plus a mirrored pyramid and a wandering "djed," and it's chess-like, except for the lasers firing from the corners and bouncing off the mirrors. High tech, high action and trulyunique! Deflexion combines lasers with classic strategy for cool, smart...Zap! "Gotcha!" Satisfaction. Strategy at the Speed of Light... Each player begins with 12 Egyptian-themed pieces and a laser built into the board. The goal is to arrange your pieces so that the laser's beam bounces off their mirrored sides with the goal of illuminating opponent's pieces to eliminate them from the game. Players alternate turns moving the mirrored pieces around the playing field after which they fire their low powered laser diode in attempts to hit the opponent's Pharaoh. Deflexion is fun and easy to learn. Developed by mechanical engineering students and similar to chess, the challenge is in thinking about the playing field as a whole.

I began using this item with my students to help them write more quickly and think in a little more creative way. I noticed before that the group I was working with had some creative ideas, but weren't always original. Using this game as a prompt-like writing instrument to spark originality and creativity. I feel it has exceptional educational value (though there are a few cards that may be best removed if you are playing with younger children) and would have payed even more for it. Connect Four Fun On the Run Game Review

Connect Four Fun On the Run Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have enjoyed playing Connect Four Fun on the Run, but it's flimsy construction. The collection trays pop off repeatedly. In addition, the columns that store the checkers have lids that snap shut presumably to keep the checkers in place, but they continually pop off as well leaving checkers scattered in the box. The checkers are small, and are easy to lose. Hasbro doesn't offer replacements for the checkers, so you really have to be careful when playing. On the other hand, the price is so reasonable, it's entertaining, and I think instead of buying a duplicate I would buy the travel folio version with zip-up pouch.
Overall, I recommend this toy, but strongly suggest the game be stored in a plastic bag, as it doesn't hold up well to the bumps and bruises of travel with the trays, and lids popping off, and the checkers rolling all over the box.

I remember having an ants in the pants toy when I was young so when I saw this SpongeBob version I thought my 4 year old would love it since she loves everything Spongebob.
It was way to difficult for her to be able to get the ants to fly. But even my 6, 7 and 9 year old had trouble with it. They are usually very easy to please and enjoy most games and toys. But they found this to be a little difficult and just not enough to keep them interested for more than about 3 or 4 minutes. Now these kids are not the type that get bored easily or are hard to please but this one didn't do it for them at all.

We played this game for the first time when we were visiting friends in GA and had to buy it upon returning from our trip. It is a great game to play as a family. So much fun trying to make animal noises before someone else so you can win the hand. Everyone gets an animal, shows it to the other players, and puts it in his/her "barn". Then you take turns drawing cards. If the animal on the card matches the drawers animal, it is a race to see who can make that animal sound first. You can play with younger children too by not using the barns. Lots of fun and laughs!
