Wild Life DVD Game Review

Wild Life DVD Game
Average Reviews:

The video piece of the game is informative and entertaining for various ages 6 and up. Some questions as basic as "how many animals did you see on the video clip?" Some required technical knowledge not provided until after the correct answer was given. Excellent video clips of animals in the wild. Hundreds of questions shuffled on the video.
We found the board game piece of it confusing and are likely going to modify the game to be video only, declaring the winner to be the one with the most correct answers.Tore the board upon taking it out of the box.

O Zoo le Mio Review

O Zoo le Mio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game is colorful, fast-paced, simple, and smart. Good for a range of ages, my friends and I would even play it in college when we were in a silly mood for something light and amusing. The basic idea is to get the most points from the layout of your zoo based on the arrangement and content of your tiles, which all players silently bid on during each of the five rounds.
Each round counts as a year, and during each round, five tiles are put on the auction block, one at a time. Each player has a certain amount of "coins" from the beginning of the game and receives more for each tile they have at the end of a year, but they bid on each tile by deciding how many coins they are willing to part with, putting it in their closed hand, and revealing their bid at the same time.
The winner keeps the tile and arranges it in their zoo. Different numbers of trees, enclosures, or connecting exhibits allow the player to compete for the most of a category, and at the end of a year, the winner gets two points for each one (number of trees, "orange" exhibits, "yellow" exhibits, "blue" exhibits, etc. -the colors represent types of exhibits like aquatic, primates, etc.) Second place gets one point. Each year the points are worth more (year one, multiply by one, year two, multiply by two, year three, multiply by three...)
The strategy requires players to guess how much a tile is worth, in terms of point possibilities, positioning in their park versus other players' parks, how many coins they and others have left, and where to place each tile in your park. Because each tile is different, and you are not sure what will come up next, there is always planning to be done.
Once you learn the game, which doesn't take too long (it's so much easier than this sounds), it becomes pretty fast-paced and is a lot of fun. Great for many ages, families, and friends!
The thick glossy tiles are durable, as are the solid wood pieces (coins, people, benches, trees). That's about it as far as parts go, though since they are small, it would be wise to save this for an age group not prone to eating everything. The recommended age is 9+, but slightly younger kids could try it out as well.

Magnetic Wipe-off Board-Large-30inx23in Review

Magnetic Wipe-off Board-Large-30inx23in

This board was much more flimsy than I expected. I've purchased plain wipe-off boards in the past and they were always very sturdy and solid, and I had expected that of this board too. It tends to bend a little too easily and doesn't hang as flat against the wall as I would have liked. But, the magnets stick to it well, and it was the best price for the size out of the boards I looked at.

Long Neckers Matching and Stacking Game Review

Long Neckers Matching and Stacking Game
Average Reviews:

I bought this for my five-year-old niece - she loves giraffes so I thought she might enjoy it. It turned out to be a really fun game and easy to play right out of the box. I'll be truthful, sometimes I try to play games with her and I'm bored out of my mind...this wasn't like that at all. It's a game that's fun for the kids to play together, but also for adults to play WITH kids. The general idea is that you spin to choose pieces of the giraffe's neck and stack to see who gets the highest giraffe. There are lots of ways to adapt the game to extend play...plus the girls had fun just goofing around with the game pieces.

This is a great toy. Better than Barbie. She has about 10 sayings- which is more than most talking toys. It inspires creative and friendly play. Every child I've given this doll to loves her. She is well made and has great accessories. The Australia zoo web site has so many great Bindi items that are not on amazon, such as dvd's and cd's, clothes and much more- I wish they were available on Amazon~ but it's well worth the extra ship. cost if you have a child that loves Bindi and her message. I feel better about giving Bindi items than the Hannah Montana etc items.

This game has a smaller range of questions than I expected. We saw the same questions during the second game. So after a few times of playing this we have pretty much all the questions memorized.
Despite this (or maybe because of it) my 6 yr old loves this game and wants to play it all the time. The DVD slows the pace down a bit as it moves from one thing to another, however this also does not deter my son.

Ear Tug Review

Ear Tug
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Another fabulous game from Haba! It is a take on any other bingo style game, with a few twists.
Ear Tug consists of 9 heavy cardboard squares, each decorated with an animal with cut outs where the ears should be. There is a blue fabric bag that contains 21 wooden and colored shapes, that represent the ears.
The object is to pick a card (or 2 or 3 or 4 depending on the number of players). Each player puts their hand into the bag, which you cannot see through. You must pick out a shape and if it matches one of your cards, you place it on that card and play on. There are 3 blue pieces that cannot be used, just to keep things interesting. The person who wins is the one that fills their cards first.
We bought this 3 years ago for my now 6 year old. She and her brother, age 3, love to play this game together. There is no need for parental help, reading or counting. It is simply a your turn/ my turn type game.
It has held up and is quite durable. I recommend this!

Ark Review

Ark
Average Reviews:

Ark is one of my son's favorite games. When we first started playing, the math was a little hard for him (he was 6 then), but now he's eager to do the adding himself. And even when it was a chore, he was happy to do it given the cute animal drawings. The rules are fairly simple, but take a few plays to get used to. It's easy to forget some of the special rules your first time through, but that doesn't really break anything, so who cares? And the cute little wooden pieces make it even more fun. And despite the title, it's not really deeply religious. You could use it for religious storytelling, but you can also ignore the religious angle entirely and still have a good time with your family.

Noah is tearing out his beard and the time-pressure is difficult. Clouds are gathering and the rain could come anytime. The weather forecast is not good. Meanwhile, animals are gathering before the ark. Now, a handful of people are offering to help, but they look like gamblers and game players! The animals slowly drag along and nothing can be said to speed them up. Fortunately, the helpers manage to keep the animals from attacking each other. And, now someone has cleverly stored 2 loads of grain with the Tyranno. His reasoning was that there was room AND the animal would not eat it as it is a meat-eater!Now, if only the ark can be launched without capsizing......3-5 players, aged 8 +; length: 45 minutes; author: Frank Nestel

iplay Amazing Animal Trivia Game Review

iplay Amazing Animal Trivia Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you have lots of kids who are all in the 3rd to 5th grade and LOVE animals and know a lot of trivia and facts about animals, they will enjoy this game. However if you have younger kids and adults want to play, it's not that much fun.
The problem is they should have divided out the questions for pre-1st, 2nd to 4th, and then adults so it's more fun for everyone but they didn't and the questions are total random in their degree of difficulty from questions about animal size comparison to invertibrates ... questions that a 5-year old will not understand to ones that adults would find boring.
6 people can play, you pick an animal card to represent you, roll the die - land on paw prints to answer questions. If you land on a "wild" space, you can challenge another player - again, what might be okay for 9-years old playing each other - it's difficult for an adult to play - you going to challenge a 6-year old on animal trivia and if they lose, they lose some of their card points? How exactly are you going to feel there? What kind of family celebrates an adult triumphing over a kid and takes part of their points/cards away?
Plus the cards are hard to earn, after you answer a question right, you turn over three of the square pieces with animal photos and if it's a match, you keep them (of course, you have to pay attention to others turning over cards to remember the match) but again, unless all the players are about 8-9 years old, it's unfair for adults to challenge or take away points from kids - what's the fun in that? It's one thing if you roll a dice and you lose something or by landing in a square but to have an adult ask a kid a question about gestation and shout WRONG - I'll take away your hard earned cards and points? So, unless you have 6 kids all about the same age playing this, this is NOT a game families or anyone with younger than 6 yar old kids can play without it resorting to hurt feelings.
So, while the board is nicely manuafactured and it's fine if you have 4-6 kids the same age who can challenge each other and if they all like animals, it's NOT a game families can actually play along without lots of hurt feelings ... plus the inherent randomness and wide degrees of difficulty in the questions.
They need to go back and rethink this. The questions are fine but divide and color code by age ... then just simply have them travel around the board so they head away from storms and towards food or something - anything is better than designing a game where adults can shout to a 4-year old - ha-ha, you're wrong - give me your animal pieces! Games shoudl encourage togetherness within a family and not mock mental acuity of a 4-year old - it's just wrong.

Some of the other reviews here are just bizarre. They are little wooden pieces in fun shapes that work with the Agricola game or other games, just as described. The idea that they need to be tested, supported, etc. or else they aren't a good product is just insane. If you're the kind of person who can't figure out how a wooden game token works and figure you'll call up the tech support line or something to get help or return it because it doesn't do what you expected it to do (like get up and dance around the board on their own or something), then you aren't bright enough to be playing a board game in the first place and wouldn't figure out how to make the ones that Z-Man games packed with pre-orders either.

Melissa & Doug Magnetic Number Maze Review

Melissa and Doug Magnetic Number Maze

I was racking my brain for another Christmas present for my toddler (she's 2-yrs, almost 8 months)...and I saw this magnetic puzzle game. We've always loved Melissa & Doug products, and I thought this seemed a great value, and a good educational opportunity for her.
It is, indeed, very cute & well-made. The magnetic wand controls the balls well IF it is held flat against the acrylic cover plate. Another important requirement is that the board be laid down completely flat (as in, NOT held on the child's lap) or the balls just roll right out of the number areas. (This was a frustration expressed somewhere by someone, I believe). It has the potential to be good counting practice, IF a child is at that level.
All this to say that this is a fun toy, but is not exactly fitting for my toddler. She can play around with it, making the little balls move around, enjoying doing that for a short time, but I would say that it doesn't really become a great educational toy until the child is around 3-1/2 to 4 years old and really starts to grasp counting. My older daughter (just turned 6) can play with it and fully appreciate the learning potential: hand-eye coordination & counting (though she's definitely beyond learning how to count at this age, it's fun for her to manipulate the correct number of balls to their corresponding number area).

Snorta Review

We played this game for the first time when we were visiting friends in GA and had to buy it upon returning from our trip. It is a great game to play as a family. So much fun trying to make animal noises before someone else so you can win the hand. Everyone gets an animal, shows it to the other players, and puts it in his/her "barn". Then you take turns drawing cards. If the animal on the card matches the drawers animal, it is a race to see who can make that animal sound first. You can play with younger children too by not using the barns. Lots of fun and laughs!

Snorta: the family game where everyone acts like an animal! Get ready for laughter as your friends and family suddenly start sounding like they were born in a barn. In Snorta, each player chooses the sound of a typical farm animal and the fun begins. As players quickly flip over cards, tongue-tied players stumble and stutter to blurt out the animal sounds of the other players. Before long your "barnyard" fills with bales of laughter. You will have a hoot with Snorta!
