Bamboo Collection Magnetic Color Tiles, Colora Review

Bamboo Collection Magnetic Color Tiles, Colora
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this not being really sure what type of 'game' might be played with it, and basically just took it out of the box and left it out as decoration on a table. My kids, 5 and 7, consistently come back and start playing with it, moving the pieces around to make actual pictures or just patterns. The wood is smooth and nice to handle, very relaxing. This would make a very nice desk 'toy' for an office person too.

Haba Pyramidos Review

Haba Pyramidos
Average Reviews:

I love Haba. This game is great fun for children that like to play with marbles. The best part is the marbles are controlled because of the net underneath. The game is fairly simple, try to get your marble to the pyramid and avoid crocidles (losing your marble in a big hole). My 4 year old can play the game to a certain extent. Usually, when we play this game we start out following the rules and then it turns more into pretend play where we move the marbles around or make them race. That's what is so great about Haba games for the preschool set is that the are creative and open ended enough that you can have fun, even if you don't follow the rules exactly.

Letter Dwarves Review

Letter Dwarves
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Letter Dwarves is a game produced by Haba aimed at reinforcing alphabet and vocabulary skills in children ages 6-10 (these are the manufactuers recommended ages, I believe kids as young as 4 can enjoy this game). Haba is known for producing kids games with high-quality components and this one is no exception.
The goal of Letter Dwarves is to be the first player to move your dwarf pawn around the board while collecting at least 3 gold tokens. To accomplish this, players flip tiles depicting one of the following:
1 - a set of objects
2- "Fairy Forget-me-not" holding a picture frame asking you to name 2 objects, 2 animals or give 2 names
3 - "Hob Hotchpotch" holding a frame asking the player to identify a letter falling between two other letters
For tiles 1 or 2, the player has a choice of using one of 4 letters, each of which is resting on a barrel on the gameboard and each having a point value (1-4) used to move the players dwarf around the board. The player must choose one of the four letters to name an object on the card (in case 1) or 2 animals, objects or names (in case 2). In order to land on treasure spaces and collect gold, the player may need to use a specific letter associated with the number of spaces he needs to move. This is the stage where vocabulary comes in as players try to think of different ways to name an object on the card (ie "castle" could also be "fortress" or "palace" etc...). Alternately, if a player draws tile type 3, they name the missing letter and roll a 6-sided die to determine movement points.
My kids enjoyed Letter Dwarves, though perhaps not quite as much as some other games we've played. I do think this is a good game to help younger kids work on their vocabulary and alphabet. I also like the fact that it encourages kids to really use their powers of observation at times. My son needed to name an object beginning with E and had a card with a Zebra, a Camel, a fence, shed, bushes... and was drawing a blank until it finally hit him that the animals had Eyes and Ears. For my daughter, the game was good for getting her to identify beginning sounds of words with their letters.
Overall a pretty good game for kids. It's hard to go wrong with Haba, a company that consistently puts out quality products.

Crafty Badger by Haba Review

Crafty Badger by Haba

I love Haba games. They are unique, colorful & well made. We have about 30 games in the 2-5 year age range and when playdates come they all want to play the games they have never seen before. Haba states the recommended age as 2-4, they could raise that to 2-7. It's not the best Haba game but it's a good Haba game. We have fun-except my 4 year old daughter always wants to be trhe "owner" of the blue suitcase & it doesn't quite work that way. I would have loved to see handles on the suitcases. I prefer Zocken Locken ( Lucky Sock Dip) or Shildi Shildkrote (Twiddle Turtle). BTW- the Princess & the Pea game they have is cute bit it's not really a game. I would still purchase Crafty Badger again. We play it at least twice a month & we all have a good time.

The first player to pack all of his clothes into suitcases wins this exciting game! The roll of the die indicates the color of suitcase in which to put the trousers, caps, t-shirts or socks. The Crafty Badger keeps moving from case to case as each player takes a turn. Watch out - the player who rolls the Badger on the die has to take possession of all the clothing in the suitcase guarded by the Crafty Badger. For 2-4 players, ages 4 and up. Requires no reading.

Little Garden - Pegging Game Review

Little Garden - Pegging Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Haba Junior Peg Board at the same time for [...]. I was surprised when they both arrived and were pretty much the same size. The Junior Peg Board was listed for ages 1 1/2 at the time I purchased it, but I still don't let my just turned two year old child play with it unsupervised. It has since been changed to 2 1/2.
As far as the little flower garden, here's my opinion:
Pros:Cute
Cons: Way too expensive for what you get. They should have made it a bit larger. Half the pieces to this toy are choking hazards. I bagged that half up and figure my child can use them when three or older. The holes are small enough on the pieces that they can get stuck easily on little fingers. I keep this toy out of reach and only bring it down for supervised play.
Basically, if your two year old explores by putting things in their mouth occasionally or puts their fingers in holes, this is not the toy for you. It's a toy that I look at and want to kick myself for spending the money on.

Grasshopper in Zahlenland Review

Grasshopper in Zahlenland
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game is just a set of round mats numbered 1 - 20, each with the correct amount of grasshoppers on it as an aid for children who are a bit shaky with number recognition.
You lay them out on the ground (I suppose you could make a hopscotch if you like) in random order (though nothing is stopping you from using them as a numberline) and there's a list of games for the tiles included - such as having one child jump on two different numbers and a second child jump on the sum (and then make a new problem for a third child, and so on). Obviously, you could make up your own games with these as well, and are not restricted to what they list.
You could get a similar effect by writing numbers on paper and taping them to the floor for each game, but let me say that this seldom works as well as you think.
Edit: By the way, just to clarify - the picture shown is NOT the item in question.
Edit again: LOL, a short time after writing my edit, the picture was fixed. I was helpful! If the image shows children jumping around on numbered pads, it's the correct picture.

Magnetic Patterning Board Review

Magnetic Patterning Board

Got on sale for my two-year-old. She loves it. Yes, I know the small pieces are a choking hazard. But she doesn't stick things in her mouth, and she only uses it under adult supervision.
It doesn't look like much, but my daughter gets a lot of play out of it. Daughter rearranges the pieces to make different abstract designs, on both sides of the board. She seems to just enjoy moving the pieces around. Seems to be good for stimulating creativity. Good car toy for older kids.

Fiery Dragons Review

Fiery Dragons
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My daughter got this game for her fourth birthday and we have been playing it several times since then. You have to memorize where certain symbols are hidden in order to go forward, and how many of the animals are in the hidden pictures. It is pretty straightforward and she picked up the rules really fast. The kids have to realize that they can move around the volcano much faster when they find more of the animals they are looking for, but that it may be wiser to go only one step forward instead of turning an unknown card and risking to go backward (dragon pirate). The materials are really nice: good quality card board for the cards and the board, and wooden dragon figures to move around, so it should be very durable. It's certainly an educational and fun game, and my daughter likes it well enough, but there are other Haba games that she prefers, so I'm giving four starts instead of five.

This game was a gift to my boys (then 7, 4 and 3) and it is on the short list of games we ALL can enjoy. While no reading is required, the color matching necessary to advance the farthest possible distance in each roll of the dice keeps kids thinking and strategizing. Fast-paced, yet interesting enough for mom and dad too. Small sized game board and durable wooden play pieces are cute and user-friendly for little hands. Every time we get this one out, I find myself smiling and thinking, what a great little game!

I really like the idea of this book. However, it could be improved on. The text should be a little simpler with the text clearly emphasizing the preposition. Also, sometimes when you put the magnet on the page, it will stick to the correct place, but if you move the monkey a little it will also stick to an incorrect place. Overall, Not something I would recommend.

Wiggling Cow Review

Wiggling Cow
Average Reviews:

We received this game as a gift for my 5 year old. The basic concept is kind of like pick up sticks that we played as kids. Haba uses cards, a cow, and a fork instead of wooden sticks. The game works by throwing the cards in a pile so they are all mixed up and stacked in a pile on the board. You then place the cow on top of the cards which has back legs attached to a string so they can fall out if the cow is moved to much. You then take turns with 2 people up to 4 trying to get a card off the board using the wooden fork. The game is creative and fun. My five year old had no problem playing so I would say this game is for 4 years old and up. It is not a game you are going to take out of the closet all the time but it certainly was a great gift!
