Crafty Badger by Haba Review

I love Haba games. They are unique, colorful & well made. We have about 30 games in the 2-5 year age range and when playdates come they all want to play the games they have never seen before. Haba states the recommended age as 2-4, they could raise that to 2-7. It's not the best Haba game but it's a good Haba game. We have fun-except my 4 year old daughter always wants to be trhe "owner" of the blue suitcase & it doesn't quite work that way. I would have loved to see handles on the suitcases. I prefer Zocken Locken ( Lucky Sock Dip) or Shildi Shildkrote (Twiddle Turtle). BTW- the Princess & the Pea game they have is cute bit it's not really a game. I would still purchase Crafty Badger again. We play it at least twice a month & we all have a good time.

The first player to pack all of his clothes into suitcases wins this exciting game! The roll of the die indicates the color of suitcase in which to put the trousers, caps, t-shirts or socks. The Crafty Badger keeps moving from case to case as each player takes a turn. Watch out - the player who rolls the Badger on the die has to take possession of all the clothing in the suitcase guarded by the Crafty Badger. For 2-4 players, ages 4 and up. Requires no reading.

My Dog Has Fleas Review

I purchased this toy for my three year old grandson for Christmas. He had fun playing with it. The fleas would sometimes fall off before we (yes I played with them) had a chance to turn the dog's tail. The tail was very hard to turn for a three year old but his six year old brother could turn it without much trouble. Also we had to hold on to the dog to keep it steady on the floor while the tail was turned. All in all we had a great time and lots of laughs.

Itching to play a canine classic? In this game, originally released in 1979, players start with their hands full of fleas. Everyone knows dogs should have fleas " not kids " so players try to get rid of their fleas by giving them to Itchy the Dog. Trouble is, when he wags his tail, some of the fleas jump off. Get all your fleas to stay on Itchys back and win! Colors may vary. 2-4 players.

Dog On It Bones Game Review

Dog On It Bones Game
Average Reviews:

My husband and I played this game with our 4-year-old and our 6-year-old and it was fun. It is like that game "spoons" that I used to play when I was young- where you try to sneak a spoon (a bone, in this version) from the center of the table when you have the correct cards in your hand. If someone else sees you sneak one, they can grab one too. There is one less bone than players, so someone gets left without one at the end. The downside is that the last person usually gets laughed at, because the game had continued without them realizing that the bones are gone. For a 4-year-old, this can be hard. I personally think games are usually easier when there is one "winner" and the rest of the players are "losers," so one person doesn't get singled out. The other downside is that the game can't be played with fewer than four players, which means that I can't play alone with my kids during the day. Overall it's a cute game, but doesn't get played often.

Plays just like the classic family game of Spoons. Be the first to get four-of-a-kind & grab a bone (instead of a spoon) before anyone else.

Peaceable Kingdom / Spin-and-Go Milk & Cookies Game Review

Peaceable Kingdom / Spin-and-Go Milk and Cookies Game

Very engaging game for all of us who were involved (children and adult alike). My 8 year old nephew mentioned that it was a little "too easy" for him, however the game can be altered to make it more challenging. Instructions were very simple to pick up even for the youngest of our participants who is 4 years old, which kept things competitive but not too intimidating. Would recommend for families with younger children.

I have a daycare with young children and they were thrilled to get this game. Some of the pictures are hard to distinguish (sweater/jacket) and (pants/jeans) so I let them cover if it could be that. I let them take turns with the spinner and then I read the animal name to them. They have a great time playing. They are made of a hard card stock and seem very durable against the kids so far. The bingo pieces are not as hard, but you can replace them with anything, so no big deal. We also have the animal bingo and food bingo. They love them all.

{Be forewarned! I am going into great detail because this is the first review and I may have spent less time in Target debating over this purchase if I had known this beforehand. Sorry for being so longwinded!}
I bought this game a few hours ago so I can't say how long it will last, but it sure is fun! I was going to get the regular Hyper Dash for my daughter even though it is for older kids, but I saw this one and (after much debate) I decided to get it instead. Not only is it adorable, but it burns energy. Although the regular Hyper Dash would probably have been more fun as a family game (adults enjoy it too, from what I hear) this game is very fun for her to play by herself or with a friend. Her and her cousin have been playing it in the "treasure hunt" mode, which is like hide-and-seek, for awhile and love it.
Here is how it works. There are 4 different modes of play (play alone, play with group, treasure hunt and memory) and 5 different levels. When you play alone, you spread out the four animals and the base (giraffe) calls out animals, colors, sounds, attributes or letters (depending on the level) and the child "tags" the corresponding piece with the base. You can keep all of the pieces in front of your child so that they can sit and play or you can spread them out around the room so that your child has to run around to get to them. We even put one up a couple steps so that the kids had to climb to get to it. At the end the giraffe tells you how long it took you to finish so that you can try to beat your record. Group play is the same except that the base tells you when to pass to another player. Treasure hunt is just like hide-and-seek. One player takes the giraffe and counts. The other player hides the animals and then the giraffe calls out the names of the animals one by one for the player to find and "tag." This mode is definately the favorite so far. My only complaint is that the giraffe only counts to ten and the kids don't have enough time to collect and hide the other pieces. There is no way to pause the giraffe either, so as soon as one person finds all the pieces he goes right into counting for the next person. I guess kids have short attention spans anyway, so they aren't complaining! In memory mode the giraffe calls out 1 animal name, then 2, then 3, etc. and the player has to find them in the order they were called.
Other than the issue in treasure hunt mode that I mentioned, there is one other thing that I was a little dissappointed about. The box that this game comes in cannot be used to store the pieces because it has a hole in the front that is big enough for the pieces to fall out. Even though I would prefer to have a place to keep the pieces, it's not dissappointing enough to take off a star. This game is still great!
Put simply:
The pros: Pieces seem durable, cute, many modes of play, daughter loves it, active game, unique and fun!
The cons: Not enough time to hide the pieces in treasure hunt mode, no box for storage.
I'm definately glad we bought this!
*UPDATE* - I took this into my Autistic Support class and the kids love it! It's hard to find games that all of the children will play, but they all participate when we play this one!!!

We gave this game to our two four-year-old kids, one a boy, one a girl, over two months ago, and they both LOVE it as they have never loved a board game before. It is fun we can enjoy together as a family. The kids set the game up themselves, complete with toy plates from their own kitchen, and take pride in folding the included "tablecloth" back up at the end. We use the "Lose a Turn" space on the spinner as a "Do Over" to keep the game moving. Once everyone in the group has collected the card in a given category, we take time out to play with it for a second, pretending to eat the cake, or drink our tea, for example. Otherwise we play strictly according to the rules.

This game would be PERFECT were it not for ONE thing. This game does NOT have all the letters in the alphabet! It only has like 9 of the letters. Otherwise it is an awesome way to teach kids the alphabet AND teach them how to recognize the letters! I was really disappointed! My 5 year old LOVES this game-and I have to say that it is a wonderful way to teach your preschooler his colors and shapes...but as far as learning the alphabet, this game falls short.

How Tall Am I Game Review

How Tall Am I Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this game for my then nearly 4-year-old daughter and a year later she still enjoys playing it. The game is VERY simple and does not require reading. All the parts and pieces are high quality. It's a good opportunity to work with numbers and measuring, plus the game goes fast so you can play it quickly if needed or multiple rounds if you have the time/inclination.
The object is to create the tallest character by mixing/matching 5 parts (feet, legs, body, head, and hat). The character pieces are brightly colored and fun and include: ballerina, doctor, fireman/woman, policeman/woman, cowboy/cowgirl, and a clown. A roll of the die determines which part you select. The die has both pictures and words--except for the WILD side which is printed in red.
After the characters are assembled each player measures with the included ruler (you can choose centimeters or inches) to see whose character is the tallest. It's a sliding ruler with a base so the kids can actually fit their character inside and line up the top with the corresponding number on the ruler.
I wouldn't recommend this game for kids beyond 5--it may be a little too simple. But for 3/4/5's it's a great game.

iplay Diggity Dog Review

Average Reviews:

As a speech pathologist at Play on Words, I am always looking for good games to encourage language. Kids three years and up want a little challenge in their games--not everything left to chance! Diggity Dog is their first pick for fun. Choose your puppy and press the doghouse to listen for the number of barks. Count them out as you land on a space, dig a hole and the little bone sticks to your dog's magnetic nose. See if the color on the underside of the bone matches your dog and collect all three before heading home to win. There's just enough action to keep little hands busy and skill required to keep minds churning. Playing Diggity Dog involves auditory memory (remembering the number of barks), visual memory (remembering where your colored bones are), counting, and conversation negotiating turn-taking and discussing strategy. These are all skills that contribute to language development.

In this adorable first memory board game, kids help the puppies find their bones. Start by pressing on the electronic barking dog, and he will bark the number of spaces you move (1,2 or 3). When your puppy lands on a space beside a bone, he can pick it up using his magnetic nose. If the color of the bone matches your puppy, you get to move it to your doghouse. The first to find three matching bones wins.

I was looking for a good beginner board game so we could start family game night with our 3 year old and this game is great. It is very simple and does not take too long to play a round: pull the lever and one piece shoots out of the castle (fun) and if it matches your game board you keep it and if not you put it back in the castle top. Great first game, box says 3+ but 2 year olds could easily play this game with supervision. I think it is a bit overpriced, but there is not really a great selection of easy beginner games available. (We have the Lucky Ducks game - fun but noisy! And we have Hi Ho Cherry-O - fun but 40 tiny plastic cherries!)

With 72 cards (36 pairs)I think this is a little more than most 3 year olds can remember. I suggest using only part of the cards and gradually increasing the number of cards as the child gets older--otherwise, they may become frustrated and give up. I agree with the reviewer who suggested that the cards should be laminated. I am not sure how long they will hold up if used much. The pictures are all familiar objects that preschoolers will readily identify, and it's a great game for spending time together.
Update February 17,2009: Yesterday we had this game out again. My 5 year old grandson and I enjoyed playing the game several times and I must admit we make our own rules as we play and I think everyone should, taking into consideration the child's ability as well as the grandparent's. I want to mention that the cards have held up well even after all these years without being laminated. Buy it and have fun!

My daughter loves this game. It is just like going fishing only in the whales mouth. We like how you can get squirted with water if you pull the tounge up. My three year old likes to pull up the tounge just so he can get wet. My kids will enjoy this game many years from now I'am sure. Even I like to play with them this is not boring at all. Pressman makes fun games, and that is what matters it does not have to always be educational. Kids perfer games like this, and your probably not going to see it collecting dust in your closet.
