(More customer reviews)It's definitely made at the lowest possible cost, and it doesn't allow you to stop in the middle of the game, close it and continue, as some travel games do. In other words, the game's on the outside, not the inside. The dice are almost too small to hold and roll, but just work. There's no rim on the edge of the board, so you can't play this on a plane... dice will be under the seats and gone forever in about 2 rolls. But, it's small and it's light and it works... just.

(More customer reviews)We love this game! It is made of solid wood which makes it appear classic and very sturdy. The bright colors make it visually appealing. It comes with a sliding cover which makes the game easy to transport and there are no cardboard edges to get stepped on and broken.
The educational value is fantastic! My two year old helps to count the "dots" on the dice, my 5 year old gets a number review, my 6 year old gets practice at addition, and my 8 year old is learning strategy as well as enhancing his memory. I even love playing this game! They are practicing math skills and having no idea they are doing their "dreaded" math. I highly recommend this game!
By the way...I found it for $7 at a Winners in Toronto...shop around!

(More customer reviews)I have a much larger more expensive wooden set and this set. My son always grabs this one when he want's to play though. For the most part all pieces are easily recognizable save the bishops which look a bit like large pawns, but not too big of a deal.
You can turn the board upside down and the parts stick and don't fall, yet the magnets are not so strong that they interfere with regular play. You might even forget they are magnetic. Certainly the pieces do not attract each other.
Compact, lightweight, functional and excellent value.

First, it is a theme game that actually stays with the theme. You're an archaeologist and you have to spend time researching about sites you want to excavate (you don't actually study them however - just pretend but it takes time), travel to the site and then explore and dig up stuff so to speak. And you can have exhibitions about the artifacts when you are done. (It would be cool if you had to answer some sort of trivia about them - making it educational as well.)
The second feature that I like is that it uses a time-continuum to tell who moves each time. So if you decide to spend a long time researching a dig (acquiring more chance of getting a good artifact), you move your marker on the time-line forward that many weeks. Whoever is furthest back in time on the line moves next. So when you choose to research, for example, your opponents may take multiple turns until they catch up to you on the time-line.
The bits are beautiful. Having separately printed bags for different ancient civilizations with various famous artifacts (Dead Sea Scrolls, Standard of Ur, ...) in them - is a great idea. And the rules are not difficult.
I really wanted to like this game but there are too many chance elements for me, and it seemed a little pointless to me and my wife moving around from dig to dig, pulling stuff from the bags. Probably children - at least age 10 - would enjoy this more than most adults which isn't a bad thing. There are people who like this game - have seen it recommended on boardgamegeek - but it wasn't me.

(More customer reviews)This travel mah-jongg game is just as much fun as the full size versions. My one complaint would be the racks for the tiles. They are not long enough even though they have a "double-decker" configuration. They also have a hinge at the back for a "kick-stand" to support the rack...this little stand and hinge are not very good quality. I had all four become hyper-extended and one actually came apart from the rack. They need sturdier hinges. All that said it is still a good starter set for a beginner adult or young adult to learn the game and see if they like mah-jongg before investing in a more substantial/expensive set. I would suggest mah-jongg cards over this product for travel.

(More customer reviews)When I am writing this review, I have just read the other 2 reviews...one good and one bad, and I can say that both are somehow right: the magnets are weak(but I feel they are just enough strong for my need, just to hold the pieces when I move around the house or bed), the pieces size is good for the board size and I like it as my study chessboard.
The knight could look a bit better, and I somehow dislike the white colour of the white pieces, but curently it is my favourite chess set(and I have more than 5), so if you want a study magnetic wooden folding chess set I would recomend it: 4 stars

The stickers held up well and are reusable, which is great because we take lots of trips. We will get at least two or three more trips before the stickers centered in the folding crease fall apart. The New England states are all lumped together as one sticker so if you find one- you find them all. It has lots of decorative picture stickers that she could use to decorate when the plate games was getting slow. It was much better than using a printed off piece of paper and I was very happy with the quality for the price!
