Great item but this price is high. $18 at [...] right now and $23 at [...]. Great item much better than I thought it would be. Use the different setting and it creates great effects and shows. Well worth $20+ dollars.. not over $40 though.

GloDoodle Review

GloDoodle

We got this for our son for a trip we went on. We would be driving in the dark, so his MagnaDoodle would be useless. It turned out to be a great toy for him, though I did think it would not be long lasting. It reminded me of the neon sketch toys from when I was a kid where you would draw on it and the plastic stuck to the backing, showing your image brighter. It works in a similiar way, but much better.
You turn the light on, draw on the screen, and it shows up very easily, even in daylight (indoors). You press the button in on top to erase. The button pushes the hard plastic away from the plastic film, erasing the image. While my son (nearly four) had no problem erasing, often the images on the bottom of the screen (closest to the backing) were difficult to erase. He would give it to me and I would have to hold the button it until it erased. After only a week of occasional use, the hard plastic backing (connected to the erase button) cracked while erasing. I can't say I was shocked but I certainly expected this to last more than a week!
This is a fun toy that everybody - even the adults - found to be compelling to pick up if it is sitting there, but one week is a very short time for a toy to last. One other thing...The light stays on until you turn it off. I wish it had an auto-off feature. If they fix the breaking problem, I would highly recommend it!
Update: I e-mailed the company concerning my problem. They called me on the phone within ten minutes. This is the second time I have had to contact Spinmaster's customer service and they are friendly, understanding, and will most definitely find a way to make the situation right. They had FedEx pick up the broken one and are sending a brand new one. This company is great!

Lexigo Review

Lexigo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Lexigo is what you get when you combine Scrabble with Boggle. The point is to get rid of your letter bank by creating words. Words are created by placing the hexagonal tiles together, making sure at least two sides are touching an already played tile. Letters can be used more than once for your word, and as long as the letters touch on at least one of their eight sides, it counts. The last letter of the word you play is the letter you use to start your next word. This forces players to thing well ahead of the current turn. Who wants to start their next word with a K? No one, unless you already have a plan made out. You can pick up your marker and start on a new letter, but every such action comes with penalties that seem small at first but can quickly snowball. Bumping players from their current position adds to the competition.
Games can last from ten minutes to thirty minutes depending on your luck and keen eye for creating words. There are times were words seemed to just flow from nowhere, but there were other times were it felt that every move spelled me into a corner. You are not scored for how complicated the word is (like in Scrabble), but instead on how many letters you can take from your own bank. The word "river" can easily beat out the word "xenomorphic" depending on the letters in front of you.
I could easily see this as a great game for teaching logic and reasoning to younger players. This game can be as competitive or as easy-going as the players decide. The tiles are large and durable, although the bag they are stored in is not that great for shaking them up in. It's more like massaging a bag of sand than shuffling game pieces. The bag is very well made though. Everything about the game is solid and stout. Even the box is thick and sturdy, a fact that almost everyone I know who played this has mentioned.
Overall, this is a great game for keeping the brain going, or for developing logic skills.

Interesting toy. Kids are only 4.5 and 6, so their use has been minimal...not because of the toy, but because they got it at Christmas and there were so many stimulating things to deal with. They love drawing on it, and the colors are fun. Can't go wrong with a Crayola product. thanks

Classroom Dry Erase Board Set Review

Classroom Dry Erase Board Set
Average Reviews:

I'm a Spanish teacher and I bought these to try and cut down on the amount of paper that gets used every day! It works great. The kids can write down one word, or short sentence answers, I check them, and then they get erased and are ready for the next question. The only down side, and it's very minor, is that the markers have a strong odor. The first day we used them I had to open the windows to air out the room! Overall, great buy. Kids love them, I'm saving trees, and they're just fun!

Was very excietd about this product for my son, who is a huge TOy Story Fan. The toy is a great concept but does not work very well. The markers that came with the board are nto bold enough to show up on the screen, and the light (even with new batteries) is too weak to cover the whole board. Visual effects are limited and the main reason we bought it. Used a few times and has been shelved ever since. Let down overall. I dont blame Amazon, just not a fan of the toy.

Crayola Color Wonder Magic Light Brush Review

Crayola Color Wonder Magic Light Brush
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this for my 5 yr old grand daughter's birthday. I read the reviews AFTER I got the product and was worried because some said it didn't light up!? BUT it DOES after the brush is held over or dipped into the paint that comes with it. It took about 10 seconds for it to 'recognize' the paint color at first then she was off to the races. The only draw back is there isn't alot of the paint and it's a clear gel, but you can buy more of it and different colors than the primary ones it comes with. The brush is 'chunky' so it's perfect for little hands. Says it won't work on any other surface like other paper other than what comes with it and that remains true. So there is NO mess or accidents of carpets, tables, bare floors, etc. I'd highly reccomend this product to anyone IF you can find it. That was one very difficult thing we ran into. Found it at Johnny's toys store in Covington Ky and it was the LAST ONE but they held it for me. :)

Crayola Glow Station - On-the-Go Review

Crayola Glow Station - On-the-Go
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Crayola Glow Station possesses a very high coolness factor that will appeal to kids. I mean, who doesn't enjoy stuff that glows in the dark? That you can create the glow-in-the-dark fun yourself only adds to the allure. Run the light wand over the Glow Station's surface and voila! A glowing masterpiece.
COMPONENTS:
The Glow Station itself is a sheet of light-sensitive plastic material of approximately 21" by 15" framed at the top and bottom by two plastic bars that can hold some of the pieces that come with the set. There is no solid back on the Glow Station, so it can be rolled up for storage.
The light wand has an LED at one end and comes with a crystal-like attachment for making stars. The light wand takes 3 AAA batteries.
The set includes 14 positive/negative stencils and two printed acetate texture sheets with a dozen textures that can be combined with the stencils to make intriguing designs.
Included is a dry erase marker and a blank acetate sheet for creating your own artwork. Rub the light wand over your design and the glow-in-the dark negative will form on the Glow Station surface.
The quality of the components is good, though the glow-in-the-dark surface is a little flimsier than one might hope.
PLAY:
Use the light wand with or without the crystal attachment to form glowing designs through freehand, stenciled, and textured drawing.
PROS:
*Glows in the dark--always fun
*The stencils and textures add thoughtful variety
*The components are well designed
*Contains hooks to hold the acetate sheets and positive stencils, and a small bin to hold the negative stencils
*Will keep kids focused on an activity for a good while
CONS:
*To reach its maximum effectiveness, the Glow Station needs to be in the dark for several minutes before using, making an antsy wait for some kids
*Needs a dark room, so if you don't have one, you're out of luck
*Contains an opening at top for holding the Glow Station, so you need a nail or other kind of hook to support it upright (as the Station does not have a solid backing to support itself)
*The dry erase marker is not for use directly on the glow-in-the-dark surface--and we all know what happens when you mix kids and "don't do this" (though I am unsure whether the marker can be removed from the surface or not, as I was unwilling to test it)
*The designs may fade faster than kids like
THE BIG CON:
* This is one of those "the manufacturer didn't try the final product" errors that drives parents batty. The glow-in-the dark surface has a large sticker on its front side that gives some final warnings and instructions. Rather than make this sticker easily removable, Crayola made it out of paper. It readily tore in tiny pieces or had the paper come away from the adhesive, leaving a mess that took a half hour of scraping and cajoling with a fingernail to remove. As I was unsure whether the surface would hold up under the kinds of solvents that might remove the adhesive, I was left with a real chore--while my kid was dying to use the toy. A plastic sticker could have been removed in one piece, so why did Crayola opt for this cursed paper sticker that left behind a mess and a scarred surface (as the scraping with my fingernail left scratches in the Glow Station's surface)? How I would love for the Crayola management team to suffer through that same inane sticker-removing process.CONCLUSIONS:
Cons aside, this is a fine toy that will delight (pun intended) children, and even a few "big kids." The price--around $25--is good, too. Even those kids who may not be into drawing will be drawn in by the glow-in-the-dark fun.
UPDATE:
A few people have commented that I failed to remove the clear, protective film from the Glow Station's surface, and that doing so avoids the struggle with the paper label. That's absolutely true. I checked and the film was still on ours. The nearly invisible film does peel away from the surface with a solid pull.
In my defense, it's impossible from looking at the unit to see that it has a protective film, nor did I immediately notice any reference to removing that film in either the instructions or the paper label. That's not to say they aren't there, only that they weren't quickly apparent, especially when a very eager child is wanting to play right away.Crayola could make this more apparent.
So bump up the stars by one.

This is a great way to display things that your children have made or created at school. Children love seeing their works of art and especially love it for everyone else to see it too! The shelf is already painted white. All that you paint is the clothespins to put on the shelf then put a covering on top of the stickers so they don't peel off. Great way to spend time making something with your kids that they can enjoy for a long time!

Crayola Beginnings Color Me A Song Review

Most of my daughters toys are played with a few times and then forgotten, minus stuffed animals :D She mostly just 'reads' books and colors during the day when we aren't outside. When I saw the Color Me A Song, I just knew it would be perfect for her, because she LOVES coloring and music. I'm not sure about the other reviewer getting markers in hers, but the Color Me A Song is supposed to come with several triangular shaped crayons, which are great because they don't roll of the table :D They are easy for her and my 3 year old to hold. I also love the tray that you can keep the crayons in when not in use, so when we take it with us, I don't have to bring the crayon box too. To my surprise, my 3 year old, very active son also loves this toy. It has held up well, esp. since they both use it at the same time and will snatch it from each other, hehe. I couldn't have made a better investment, imo.

Crayola Non-toxic Anti-Dust White Chalk. (One Box) Review

Crayola Non-toxic Anti-Dust White Chalk. (One Box)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used Crayola chalkboard chalk for years, along with several other brands. I have used all of the past types of Crayola chalkboard chalk - white Anti-Dust, white AN-DU-SEPTIC, yellow Sight-Saver, and mellow gold EZ-SYTE. In the past, I can confidently say Crayola chalk was the best. However, THE RECIPE HAS BEEN CHANGED. I tend to think it probably happened when Binney & Smith became no longer associated with Crayola. This new chalk that is being sold as the white AN-DU-SEPTIC is absolutely NOT the same white AN-DU-SEPTIC that Crayola used to manufacture. This new chalk is grainy, softer, and contains hard spots that scratch and damage the chalkboard writing surface. I don't know what they have done, but the chalk recipe has been changed, and this new stuff is nothing but chalkboard-damaging junk. It really is sad because what was once a great product has been turned into a third-rate product. Because of this, I have made a move to another brand and absolutely WILL NOT allow Crayola chalk to be used on my chalkboards. They are entirely too expensive to get damaged and scratched.

Crayola Color Wonder Sound Studio Review

Crayola Color Wonder Sound Studio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We've been Color Wonder fans for years and have seen products come and go. This sound studio is a neat twist, and I think we'll be keeping it for a long time. The package includes the sound studio drawing board, 12 color wonder pages with pictures, 6 blank color wonder pages, 5 mini markers and 6 sound cards. Each sound card has 10 different sounds with themes including city, jungle, dinosaur, music, farm, and beach; a nice, basic variety. There is also a storage place in the back for 5 markers (mini or regular sized).
3 AA batteries (not included) are required before beginning. Once the batteries are installed you place a drawing sheet of paper under the clips and slide a sound card into the top. Applying a sound to the board is easy, you just push and hold the sound you want until it plays, then place and hold your finger on the board where you want until you hear the sound again. You do have to press firmly, but the sound will stay until you remove it with the erase button. You can remove each sound individually or erase the whole board to start fresh. The different drawing sheets follow the same themes as the sound cards, so you can mix it up or use the card that applies to that themed sheet. It seems that other color wonder sheets will also fit from the spiral bound books or blank drawing pads which is nice. Expansion card packs in Toy Story and Princess themes are also available separately.
Overall we're pleased and I know this product will get lots of use. Pros include ease of use, encourages matching and using your imagination, works with other color wonder sheets and has two volume control levels (medium and loud). Cons include no storage for paper or sound cards. We'll probably end up using a small bag and using the clips on the front to keep things together. Also the paper is loose, so we're putting it under the clips also to hold in place, it would have been nice to have somewhere in the case to put the extra sheets. I think that this is a nice addition to the color wonder line and would be fun for the 3+ recommended to an early elementary school aged child.
Edit: Figured out what the sound cartridge slot on the side is for - when you purchase an expansion pack you have to insert the included cartridge into the sound studio in order to use the expansion pack sound cards. With the original set of sounds being included in the sound studio (no cartridge required), this isn't an issue. So if you want to use the Toy Story expansion pack, you have to insert the Toy Story cartridge into the sound studio every time you use the Toy Story sound cards and it doesn't appear that you can mix/match expansion packs.

Crayola 8ct Dry Erase Crayons Large Size Review

Crayola 8ct Dry Erase Crayons Large Size
Average Reviews:

So I saw these at Staples and because I'm an impulse buyer, I snagged them. We're a homeschooling family and dry erase markers are expensive, stinky and they dry out way too easily! Dry Erase Crayons were just too tempting to pass up.
When I got home, I starting wondering about the difference between the dry erase crayon and regular crayons. The Dry Erase Crayons are thicker and the colors are deeper. Regular crayons do come off your dry erase board just as easily, though. So if you are in a pinch and the student isn't too far from the dry erase board regular colors will do and are much cheaper.
We will purchase this product again. (I also like the mitt that came in the package)

My daughter has been using these markers daily for about two weeks.
First off, the performance of this marker set is wonderful. It is everything you should expect from Crayola.

But, this new BLACK barrel has no indication of the color of the ink inside. If your child is not old enough to put the caps back on the marker correctly, the only way to know the ink color is opening the cap, maybe looking at the tip, but, mostly by making a mark.
Would not buy this product again. But, I would happily buy regular (not washable) markers with the BLACK barrel for older children.
