(More customer reviews)I have purchased many Melissa & Doug products for my grandchildren. This year, I ordered 2 of these easels: one shipped directly to an out-of-state granddaughter; the second for another granddaughter who would be at my house Christmas Day.
Grandpa and I began assembling the big "Santa-type" gifts Christmas Eve at 6:00 pm. We had completed 2 race track-train sets and table and chairs when Grandpa opened the easel box. We found no "hardware" and no clips in the box-this meant there would be "no assembly" tonight. Five grandchildren were expected Christmas morning and ALL five were to have a big gift under the tree!
I placed a call to the number at Melissa & Doug and left a message about the incomplete merchandise and my disappointment. Now I needed to find a store open to purchase a different "big" present for my granddaughter.
Granted, I should not have waited until the 11th hour to open and assemble. My past purchase history with Melissa & Doug have been flawless: their merchadise superior. I never expected anything less.
Christmas morning things were fine. "Santa" left a note on the unassembled box that an elf left the nuts and bolts and they would be mailed in 2 weeks. This was satisfactory to her.
Telephone communication began, and on Thursday January 10th, the package arrived. I opened it immediately and ALL the bolts, washers and screws were accounted for but not the "4 colorful clips". I called the Melissa & Doug store. I was not happy that the toy was still incomplete. The representative stated that the clips would be sent out. I remarked that my granddaughter would have to wait another 2 weeks for this Christmas gift and would I be compensated (I was thinking they could at least send an extra roll of paper for our trouble). I was told that "oh she can use it without the clips" and that it wasn't the fault of Melissa & Doug, but the vendor. She became very rude when I stated that the fault is with whomever forgot to pack the box with ALL parts.
This was the wrong attitude to take with a customer. I bought a new, deluxe set (not second-hand or as is) and I paid retail (not reduced, discount or clearance price). I paid, and I expect to get what I paid for when I receive the merchandise -not piece by piece, week by week. THIS WAS AN INCONVENIENCE-having to run around to buy a replacement gift on Christmas Eve, to make an excuse as to why the easel was not ready for her to take home, multiple phone calls had to be made and now I was told I had to wait again!
One mistake, I can overlook...but the second mistake accompanied with rudeness from the Melissa & Doug representative means it will be a cold day at the equator before I buy a product from this company again.

Alex 26 " Wall Easel With Paper Roll Review

(More customer reviews)I got two of these for my classroom at church. They are wonderful and the kids love them. They went on the wall perfectly, wipe off easily and appear well built and sturdy. My only complaint is that the paper cutter goes across the bottom. This seems like a great idea until you get the kids painting and they are ready to make another one. Then you realize the paper cutter is useless because you can't feed the wet painted paper through it to rip it off. It would be a better design if it was at the top with just a slip across the bottom to hold the paper down. I'm going to have my husband use his drill to move it to it's functional. If not for this, this would be the best invention ever! Great space saver!

Large Dry Erase Die Review

(More customer reviews)I love the dice to help my kids choose between different options, particularly when they disagree. They think it's so much fun to roll the dice and see what game they will play, what they will have for breakfast, or even where we will go for an outing. I write the choices on the sides of the die in dry-erase marker and they can roll them. When I received the die one of the sides was detached so I had to glue it on. Not difficult, but showed me they can fall off fairly easily. Also, when you roll the die on the carpet the marker can rub off pretty easily onto the carpet, of course. Be careful about that! We really love this toy...so much we bought two!!

(More customer reviews)What a great easel. I had contemplated purchasing the IKEA model easel for like $14, but it couldn't stand up to the quality offered by Melissa and Doug. The M&D has a blackboard, whiteboard, paints, crayons, chalk and paper! It even includes a plastic clear mat to place on the floor so it catches spills etc. The paint is completely washable - my daughter got some on our wood floors and it came right off, without a trace.
Putting the easel together though, was slightly difficult. My husband said the average homeowner would need a little more time reading the complicated directions to get the jist of how to put the easel together. It could have been illustrated better. And who has time for directions when you have two little kids jumping around you, waiting in anticipation for their easel to be set up :)
All in all, at the end of it all, a great product that will last years and years and years. Thanks for making quality, M&D

Alex Toys Magnetic Artist Easel Review

(More customer reviews)This easel was the hit of Christmas for my 18-month-old nephew. The adjustability of the trays, white board, and chalk board is terrific and I hope the easel will last long enough for him to use it for many, many years. The two trays are large and have very well-designed compartments. The paint tray holds four standard non-spill paint cups (from Melissa & Doug or various other brands) perfectly. The lowest height is perfect for an 18-month old. If your child can walk about, s/he is tall enough to use the easel.
Assembling the easel was not difficult - just took some time and I am glad I did it before Christmas. There were two real quality issues. The holes drilled into the legs are countersunk on the backside so that the screws slip in nicely. BUT one of the 4 legs had screws countersunk on the wrong side. Luckily I had a No. 10 countersink, but was worried about compromising the integrity of the leg by added drilling. Had I not had the tools, which are not common household tools, I would not have been able to put the esel together, and there would have been no present in time for Christmas.
The four legs you see are 6 pieces - 2 sets of HALF legs joined by a hinge at the top and 4 lower legs that join to the upper leg (hope your screw holes are drilled correcly). Because the four legs are not single pieces, the easel is a wee bit rickety and I fearthat over time, with readjusting the height, the easel will become less sound nd a leg with break.
Also, the colorful plastic safety nuts are really bute, but not designed for long wear and frequent adjustability. The threading is just plastic - no interior metal threads. One nut was not threaded well and so I used it on the least load-bearing part. I suppose I could find metal nuts when these wear out, but the colored ones are so cute - and safer.
My nephew is not rough, but leaned on the trays to reach the top and he is young and experimental. He LOVED to paint - brush in both hands going at the same time. Took a small taste or the red paint and also briefly experienced the feel of painting his leg before he discovered that he could make wonderful designs moving the paint on the paper around with his arms and eventually his face. It was great. He was not rough or destructive, just got his whole self into it. For that reason, I am worried that the legs - in 2 pieces screwed together in the center and held with a plastic nut - will not withstand the passionate way in which he paints.
An easel is an amazing toy for any child. S/he will share it with friends and other siblings. S/he may use it very often. An easel that is adjustable is intended to grow with your child (or children). And so it should be built solidly to last. An adjustable easel that does not make it long enough to need adjusting is pointless. This easel is made OK, just not as well as it should habe been. My easel growing up did not have a white board, was not adjustable, and not as amazingly cute, but it was TOUGH. You would need an axe to break it.
The chalk board is great - I recommend getting a box of several-colored bright chunky chalk. Funny how very youg children who have never seen an easel know exactly what it is for. We were are all greatful for the chalkboard - he wanted to paint all the time, so being able to guide him to the chalk came as a relief when we were not in the mood for a painted baby and the chalk is accessible to him at any time. He would wander by it, put a toy down, scribble a bit, experiment "drawing" with the eraser through his drawing, and then leave his masterpiece. He would be back in an hour.
All in all, I am thrilled. He loved to color and finger paint, but it was a project to get the supplies out at his age and required 100% supervision. He didn't think to ask to paint or draw - the supplies were put away. With the easel (now in their kitchen) he can create whenever. And he does often - picks up chalk as he walks by, scribbles carefully, and goas on his way. Art is so good for his creativity and mind and imagination and the easel makes it so much more accessible - just a wonderful thing!
I recommend getting a large set (8 - 10) non-spill paint cups with lids. Theye have color-coded lids and you can pour pint in them and just reseal the cups so it is easy to set up and clean up. Several brushes with thick handles and bristles. Lots of chunky chalk and an eraser. LOTs of washable paint. Extra rolls of paper. I bought a set of Crayola paints, but they were gone quick the way he lays the paint on. I am thinking of buying the large jugs of paint.
OH - the easel does not come with a floor mat as depicted, but a large garbage bag does the trick. But the paint washes off floors and everything else very easily anyway.
SO - buy and set up well ahead of time in case you get the defects I found - countersunk hole on wrong side and bad nut. Fixable, but you may need to get the tools and hardware to fix them,

(More customer reviews)My wife, sister-in-law and I enjoyed playing this game. We found it uniquely challenging and a refreshing change of pace from Scrabble. At first appearance, it appears that it would be quite simple to play this, given you are allowed to create your own words, however, after a few turns, the board starts filling up and it becomes more and more challenging to accomplish your assigned task. A great learning tool for kids and fun for adults. I'd give it five stars, but the markers and eraser are of extremely poor quality. A trip to Office Max for some quality dry markers is a must, as well as a paper towel for erasing.

The kids can write down one word, or short sentence answers, I check them, and then they get erased and are ready for the next question. The only down side, and it's very minor, is that the markers have a strong odor. The first day we used them I had to open the windows to air out the room! Overall, great buy. Kids love them, I'm saving trees, and they're just fun!

(More customer reviews)This easel is a great buy! Very sturdy and high quality as most of mellisa and doug products. Colorful, kid friendly and easy to put together. Both the writing boards and the trays are adjustable for the height of your child. It folds up easy, but stands strong. This easel DOES have a place for a paper roll!! I did not think it did by the amazon description (I almost bought a more expensive one for the paper roll but decided to go with this and am so glad I did) ... the roll goes in the center between the boards and the paper comes up through the top and under a paper guide in front of the dry erase side. I can't image why you would spend more on another brand of easel, this one has everything I could think of wanting and is simple, solid wood, looks good and is super functional. This is the first review I have written, but wanted to pass on how happy I am with this product.

Crayola Dry Erase Board Set Review

(More customer reviews)This is a basic white board, but instead of markers it comes with crayons. They can be easily removed from this and other white boards with the enclosed eraser cloth. The crayons make dark, rich markings on the board and on regular paper. It does not have the yucky white board eraser smell. So far, it has washed off our clothes and a blanket in the regular wash, although it is not labeled as "washable". My 2 year old son has fun with these, and it is light enough to be portable. We especially enjoyed this on a recent plane trip.

(More customer reviews)I had to write this review after seeing the other poor reviews. This is a FANTASTIC travel toy! We travel all over Europe with our 2-year old and this goes with us everywhere. It has provided my son with hours of enjoyment. In fact when we travel with other children they all fight over it. If your child likes to color or draw, this is a great item.
The crayons are the size and sharpness of "normal" crayons. It's so easy to erase with the included wipe-off cloth that my 2-year old does it with no problem. You cannot wipe it off with a paper towel; use the included cloth. The crayons left no residue or marks behind on the plastic sleeve. You can easily insert your own coloring pages behind the plastic sleeve or insert plain paper for an "empty canvas".
Just be warned that dry-erase crayons can mark-up clothes and skin.

Some Expo markers are also very smelly. This year, I ordered Crayola instead. I have NEVER needed to use my whiteboard cleaner to remove the "ghosts" left by Crayola markers. They have virtually no smell. The only downside is that they don't seem to last as long as the Expos that I used in the past.

(More customer reviews)So I saw these at Staples and because I'm an impulse buyer, I snagged them. We're a homeschooling family and dry erase markers are expensive, stinky and they dry out way too easily! Dry Erase Crayons were just too tempting to pass up.
When I got home, I starting wondering about the difference between the dry erase crayon and regular crayons. The Dry Erase Crayons are thicker and the colors are deeper. Regular crayons do come off your dry erase board just as easily, though. So if you are in a pinch and the student isn't too far from the dry erase board regular colors will do and are much cheaper.
We will purchase this product again. (I also like the mitt that came in the package)

(More customer reviews)Fabulous toy and Crayola has great customer service. My children love doodling and now writing on this toy.
But, don't make the mistake of using other dry erase brand markers on this surface though as you may find that it does not want to come off! I made this mistake as I could not find these markers at a store (as another reviewer mentioned, these markers are difficult to find.) We used an Expo dry erase and another brand that I had bought from Target and they did not come off. We tried dish soap and rubbing alcohol and a lot of elbow grease. Then I read on the internet that someone suggested draw over the area that you want to erase and erase immediately.
What worked for us ultimately is drawing over the lines that would not erase with a newish Crayola dry erase marker, one that had lots of ink in it, and then using the eraser to wipe it off. We had to do this many times before the other dry erase lines were removed. Now you can't see the lines anymore.
We found that you can use the Crayola dry erase markers on this product and other true dry erase boards but you can't use other brand markers on this plastic surface - the ink is absorbed into the plastic.

(More customer reviews)I bought this set for my 4-year-old niece to go with a small marker board/chalk board. I have previously purchased many Melissa and Doug products and am always pleased with the quality of the product. This time was no different.
The marker set is appropriate for a child old enough not to eat the cap. I say this because some 4-year-olds still do this.
The markers work fine on the marker board, as expected, and have vibrant colors. The markers are also easily erasable with a marker board eraser, and wash out of clothing without a problem.
I would recommend this set, but older children may want more colors than just the four.
