(More customer reviews)I purchased this version of Candyland because I didn't like the graphics of the newer Candyland games. However, I didn't realize that the playing board that comes in the metal tin would be folded up so small, making the game board difficult to lie flat for play. I enjoy the durability of the box and pieces, but probably would have purchased a different version with a board that only splits once down the middle. Otherwise, my 3 yr-old daughter loves to play this game with mom and dad and at Grandma's house. Also, the play in this version can be a little long and tedious, so I agree with other reviewers who suggest modifying the rules and stacking the deck to keep play shorter!

Original Battling Tops Review

(More customer reviews)This game has been a consistent hit among (adult) friends. It's amazing how easy it is to anthropomorphize those little spinning tops! Sometimes they cautiously circle and taunt each other, other times they clash with such violence that some get thrown feet out of the ring, and still other times they fall down spinning but regain balance to continue the epic struggle ... it's genuinely thrilling, and totally absorbing. Each time I've brought it out with a group (often by request) it's been played for at least an hour solid.
Other reviewers complain that it's too hard to spin the tops. This baffles me a bit. As a kid, playing an older version, I don't remember being frustrated learning to spin the tops--I just remember enjoying the game. At any rate in my recent experience it takes adults with standard motor skills no more than five minutes of patience.
I don't have anything at stake in this product or company. I just feel that strongly about this crazy little game! It deserves more attention simply because it is so good, and I feel a duty to spread the word. I'm thrilled with this re-issue of the classic game.

Back with a new look, the Original Battling Tops were first introduced in 1968. This classic game has two to four players facing off in an arena, each with their own spinning top. The last player spinning is the winner of the round. The first player to win ten rounds is the grand champion! Players launch their tops into the arena with spinner handles, spinner stickers and score pegs, all included. Stadium measures 10"L x 10"W x 2"H.

(More customer reviews)OMIGOSH I WANT THIS! I had this system when I was just a little kid and I really loved it a lot! I loved it just as much as my Atari 2600. The graphics in the games are similar to the Atari 2600 and Intellivision's games, which means that they're not very advanced! But back then they were awesome! Some of my favorite games were Monkey Shines, Quest For The Rings, K-C Munchkin, Baseball, Keyboard Creations and more! The console has a unique keyboard built on it which is unlike any other game system I've ever seen. It has the basic Joystick controllers with a stick and 1 button. I trashed my original Odyssey 2 system and alway's regretted it. Kids are so
stupid! Actually it just got tossed around and the system was left out in the rain. All in all, if you're a fan of retro games from the 1970's/80's era, then you should have no problems liking this!

Gnip Gnop Review

(More customer reviews)My boys (ages 4 and 5 1/2 got this for Christmas last year. It really is a lot of fun, but the game constantly falls apart with regular play. It ended up being thrown out this spring as the balls were dented and lost and we couldn't deal with snapping it together anymore. Not worth the cost unfortunately.

(More customer reviews)Simplified Version of Parcheesi and throw in some lucky cards and you have "Sorry!" This sounds simple, but try to play and you find that there is something more illusive. This game uses Cards numbers from one to twelve to determine your moves; each card also has instructions that may help or hinder the progressive movement from Start to Home. Some time it is an advantage to move backwards. There are not enough stars for fun. You just will not tire of this game in a day or a lifetime.
As for educational, the game is mostly just spending repetitive time trying to outguess and outluck the next person. Then watching helplessly as the third person takes their turn. It is fun but you do not come away with any profound insight on number theory or game psychology.
Durability is as durable as cardboard and wood (or plastic.) it is a matter of handling and not losing the cards or pieces.

Collectors Series Chutes & Ladders Review

(More customer reviews)My 3 1/2 year old daughter enjoys this game, except that sometimes it can be too drawn out, depending how many "chutes" you get. We don't always play a whole game. The look of this version is so much nicer than the newer ones (I think), and the only skills needed are: be able to count up to 6, and move in the right direction. There are arrows at the end of each line to show which direction to go next, but it took a few games for her to understand where to go. The tin is much sturdier than a cardboard box, the board and spinner are of heavy construction, and the plastic pieces are durable. Overall, I definitely recommend this over other versions I have seen.

Rock 'Em Sock 'Em ROBOTS Game Review

(More customer reviews)I was disappointed to find that the Rockem Sockem robots I remember so well as a kid had magically shrunk down to pint-sized replacements. I would have been completely satisfied if they had retained thier size, which in turn would have made them retain their original greatness. The lesson here boys...if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

A return of a classic! Mattel brings back the classic game from 1996 in which the original battling robots try to knock each other's blocks off! Red Rocker and Blue Bomber battle it out in the arena, with realistic sounds and jaw-jolting action. When a robot lands that blockbuster punch to his opponent's jaw, the victorious robot's head pops up with that Rock 'Em Sock 'Em "gotcha sound." Adult assembly required. Trivial Pursuit: Totally 80s Review

(More customer reviews)The 80s were such a fun and visual decade, it would have been nice if this game had an audio or visual component. A DVD would have been nice. Even if they didn't go the DVD route, if there were cards with pictures and a person had to name the item on the picture (like say a Rubik's cube) that would have been nice.
This is not the only 80s related game on the market. There is "The 80s Game," "Vh-1/Targets We Are The 80s" board game and "Name That Tune 80s Edition."
How does Trivial Pursuit 80s Edition measure up?
The game is nice. When you open the box you find the neatly folded game board. There are four player pieces--a care bear looking bear, a personal computer, a CD and a Trapper Keeper. There is also one die and the other small pieces used with the board game.
Four sets of trivia cards are included. The question categories include Headlines, TV, Movies, Music, Sports & Leisure, and Wild Card.
I will say the questions are better than they are in the I Love The 80s Game. The questions are challenging and varied in nature.
Here are a few sample questions-
"What British hair band topped the chart only one time with "Here I Go Again?" (music)
"What Aaron Spelling show was slated to star Bette Davis in her first weekly series until she took ill and was replaced by Anne Baxter?" (TV)
"What former Speaker of the House cashed in on his celebrity by appearing in ads for American Express and Miller Light?" (WC)
The game also comes with a travel game. The travel game features questions from Trivial Pursuit volume 6 which isn't 80s related.
In the age of Scene It, Trivial Pursuit 80s Edition is essentially another board game--except with 80s related questions. In comparison to the other 80s games on the market, this game has the best question assortment. It will be a fun game to play if you play with people who know a lot about the 80s. However, in my opinion, there is still no ultimate 80s game on the market.
Scene It games aren't always the answer because you can quickly start to see the same clip more than once. Someone needs to design an 80s game with visual card cues, an audio and a DVD component.
Until then, well we can just wait.

Ker Plunk Game Review

(More customer reviews)When I got Kerplunk home and opened the box, I was dumbfounded. The game was this little plastic thing made from cheap materials. As a kid, we had Kerplunk and it was much taller and wider. It was made of a heavier plastic, too. You could be extra careful when you removed the straws because the whole thing was solid and wouldn't budge. The new one is so little, you have to hold it with one hand while you pull the straw, making it difficult to move carefully. I think this is the same type of problem parents are having with retro games. The toy manufacturers know the parent will say, "I had this game when I was a kid, so I'll buy it for my kid!" Unfortunately, the new versions are smaller, cheaper and more fragile. If the original version of a game is what is desired, then a parent will have to buy an old game from Ebay. This is actually a cool game, just not the new version.
