(More customer reviews)This is a great beginner game for young children - even my three year old niece quickly grasped the rules. However, unlike most popular beginner games, this one is a real challenge for children *and* adults - the nieces may not do better than I do, but I don't do better than they do either!
You have a set of tokens laid out in a line, with the picture side up. (Note - the tokens could've been made of more durable cardboard. These'll hold up, but it could've been better. Also, some of the items are a little less familiar to my nieces than I'd hope for, notably the hair dryer. But these are trivial, and you can easily remove them if it's a real problem.) You use two or three disks (an easy handicap is to have the adult play with three disks while the children play with just two) to cover up the pictures in turn. As players guess or remember what is under each disk that picture is uncovered and the next one down the line is covered. Your turn ends when you make a mistake or run out of time, and your score is the number of items you correctly remembered. Then the tokens are shuffled and laid out in a new line for the next player.
It's a LOT tougher than it sounds! The first time round, none of us managed more than two before we forgot! After a few games we were getting better, with small lists up to five or six, but nowhere near guessing most of them. So it can be a little frustrating, but in short bursts and with an encouraging attitude I think even a very young child can be good at this game - and honestly win against the grown-ups. (And when they do, they'll KNOW it's not luck.)
I definitely suggest buying this. What a way to build your memory!

In lights out, players send the mole up the tower to turn off the lights and the game ends when all five areas light up at once. Hit 100 is a game of a different sort, where players must score 100 points in the fastest time, and sometimes players have to send the sliding mole all the way to the top. In 0 to 60, kids compete in a head-to-head challenge and try to be the first to score 60 points. All games can be played with more than one player, so no one will be left out of the group. Testing the Tower Our testers decided to give the mole a whack and see if this toy is as fun as it looks. After a couple minutes spent taking out aggression on the bucktooth mole, it became obvious that this is the ideal kid's toy. Not only do the four games ignite friendly competition, simply trying to get the rodent all the way up the tower is a challenge. Once the tower is turned on, a fast-paced, distracting song plays through the game selection process and during game play. Despite a few minor design flaws, the Whac-A-Mole Tower gives kids the excitement they would find at a carnival, making this toy a great choice for families. Ker Plunk Game Review

(More customer reviews)When I got Kerplunk home and opened the box, I was dumbfounded. The game was this little plastic thing made from cheap materials. As a kid, we had Kerplunk and it was much taller and wider. It was made of a heavier plastic, too. You could be extra careful when you removed the straws because the whole thing was solid and wouldn't budge. The new one is so little, you have to hold it with one hand while you pull the straw, making it difficult to move carefully. I think this is the same type of problem parents are having with retro games. The toy manufacturers know the parent will say, "I had this game when I was a kid, so I'll buy it for my kid!" Unfortunately, the new versions are smaller, cheaper and more fragile. If the original version of a game is what is desired, then a parent will have to buy an old game from Ebay. This is actually a cool game, just not the new version.

Let's Go Fishin Review

(More customer reviews)To clear up a few things: 1) The game uses 1 C battery, not 2 AAs. 2) There is no music as stated in the product description. 3) The fishing pole and fish are not magnetic as in other, smaller, wind-up versions of this game.
My biggest complaints are that it spins a little too fast, which means that the fish don't keep their mouths open for very long. And because the fishing pole is two plastic pieces with a small cone/cup shaped plastic knob (which is only a little smaller than the fish's mouths) instead of a magnet on a string as in the small, wind-up versions, catching fish isn't all that easy. It's not terribly hard, as I got the hang of it in a few minutes, but it's definitely not as easy as in the magnetic versions.
Lastly, the reason some people have trouble putting the game back into its box is because some of the fish are still in their "up" positions (sticking up, with their mouths open). You just need to rotate it manually until all fish are in their "down" positions. But be sure to only rotate it the way the thing normally rotates, though, otherwise you might damage it.
Also, I saw this at Target for less money.

Hungry Hungry Hippos Review

(More customer reviews)This toy is not worth the money! I remember playing this game with one of my brothers when I was little, and we always had a good time. I was hoping to replicate the experience for my children; unfortunately, this game has been brought back in a junky, poor quality version. The hippos have to be removed from the game board with their necks extended and locked into place in order to put the game away in the box. My kids (6&4) have a hard time putting it together or putting it away by themselves (huge minus in my book!). The hippos sometimes become detached from the game during play. Their necks *frequently* get stuck in the extended position, necessitating stopping the game so that it can get fixed. The marbles are cheap, hollow plastic rather than the heavier marbles I remember from my childhood. The stickers don't stay on the hippos very well, so none of our hippos have eyes anymore. Even the box itself is incredibly flimsy if you hope to use it as a storage box for the game. Don't waste your money! Our game is sitting in the donation bin waiting to be taken to charity!
