Dread Pirate Signature Edition Review

Dread Pirate Signature Edition
Average Reviews:

My son was swept away by the description of this game he found in a mail-order catalog. Playing it is less enchanting. The game goes on and on, and those who are not winning are not having a particularly good time. Although Dread Pirate is extremely beautifully made, it is not a favorite. We've had an amazing amount of fun with better games, such as Zendo and Chrononauts, playing game after game. There are certainly much worse games out there than Dread Pirate, but there are also a few that are tremendously better. Buy this game if you are more interested in the quality and feel of the game pieces than in how much fun the rules are.

Clay Mania Review

Clay Mania

My wife and I have spent 4 years looking for this game after playing with some friends'. The game is similar to Pictionary except you use clay. The clay that comes with the game wears--but this is due to the continual play we have given it! We will simply replace the clay with some from a toy store or make our own! From the artistic to the sculpting impaired--everyone laughs at this game as trying to sculpt at a hurried pace is hard, comical, and fun. It's a hoot and quite the hit with friends and family. A big thumb's up (with clay under the fingernails I might add!)

Will your fingers work as fast as your brain and more importantly, will your sculpturelook like a fire hose instead of a trombone? Sink your hands into this fast action party game. You have 45 seconds to squish, squash, and sculpt a mound of clay into anobject that your teammates can guess what it is you're making. You can animate the clay but you're not allowed to say a word.Michelangelo detail is not needed - fast sculpting and creative thinking are all that is required.

Pirates on the High Seas Review

Pirates on the High Seas

The title says it all. This game is really fun to play. The mat is huge, but fit on our dining room table. The game "pieces" are excellent and more like toys than game pieces. The quality is evident throughout. I highly recommend playing the advanced rules.
I would add two house rules.
1) A pirate must either return to his/her homeport or have a skirmish before loading another cargo from an island.
2) Each player may move a minimum of one square and shoot one time per turn. All spinner results are in addition to the minimums.
So says the Pirate King, Dan Jerr! Arrr!

Sababa / Front Porch Buccaneer's Revenge Dread Pirate Discovery Edition* Review

Sababa / Front Porch Buccaneer's Revenge Dread Pirate Discovery Edition*
Average Reviews:

My whole family loves this game! The quality is excellent and the game play is fun and easy. We have both Dread Pirate and Dread Pirate: Buccanneer's Revenge. Both games are excellent in their own right. The two things I would do to improve this game are to upgrade the ship pawns to metal [like Dread Pirate] and include the wooden Wind Die. The primary difference between this game and the original Dread Pirate are the mission cards and the wind die. My 6 year old like the game, but his attention span is too short to complete a full game. My 9 year old daughter loves it. My wife and I were both impressed with the quality of the game and we both have fun playing. Arrrr!

Slide 5 Card Game Review

Slide 5 Card Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Slide 5 is a perfect mix of strategy and fun. Everyone chooses a card at the same time, so you are always praying that others don't play that one card that will result in disaster!
This game also plays beautifully for large groups as long as you make a slight modification - instead of only dealing 4 rows, deal as many rows as there are players.
Examples:
7 players, use cards from 1-77, deal 7 rows, give everyone 10 cards.
10 players, use cards 1-100, deal 10 rows, give everyone 9 cards.
This keeps big games from getting annoyingly random without losing the fun.
Good luck and have fun!

Based on the European card game sensation 6 Nimmt, Slide 5 is a quick-to-learn card game of luck and strategy.Players arrange their cards on the playing surface building "hills."Once a hill gets 5 cards high, the 6th card will cause an "avalanche" and that player must take all of the cards in that row, leaving the sixth card to start a new hill. With all the players revealing the cards they wish to play at the same time, there's always unpredictable fun and dilemma at every turn! For 2-10 players. Slide 5 is easy to learn and instantly addictive! Age:8 + Manufacturer:Endless Games

Treasure Chest Review

Treasure Chest

If you own all the related games, the Treasure Chest bulk-expansion box is quite a value. If you only own one or 2 of the related games, it's hard to justify the price. It is worth nothing that many of the expansions are tiny -- barely more than a few playing cards or set of tokens. Perhaps more frustrating, not much attention was paid to the cards during production. The San Juan expansion in particular is almost inexcusable. Its playing cards are not a color match for the game it is expanding AND the cards contain typos and significant grammar errors. In short:
FAN MADE TRANSLATIONS AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET ARE SUPERIOR!
As a game published and game player, I must admit I am disappointed in the quality here.

Pirate Versus Pirate - The Swashbucklin' Game of Swords and Rewaaarrrds Review

Pirate Versus Pirate - The Swashbucklin' Game of Swords and Rewaaarrrds
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pirate versus Pirate seemed like an odd game at first, especially since it supported three players and the playing board was a triangular surface.
Overall, the rules were very straight forward. Grab a coin and get it back to your boat, or take out all the other pirates. The game play ends requires a bit of strategy and a balance of offense versus defense, but overall the game is relativley quick and fun.
The game is *not* slated for under the age of like 8; however, I play it with my two five year olds. The game helps then with counting and basic (checkers level) strategy. They completely enjoy the game and actually have fun with it. Of course, strategy isn't as much a part of playing with 5 year olds, but learning counting and movement is. Additionally, sequency is also learned because you can't move a coin into your boat until you move other pirates out of the boat and out of the way!
When playing with older people, the game steps up to a different level. In that case, you have to think similarly to games like checkers. You have to go for the goal while still watching for your own pirates.
The reality is that this game is determined as much by the random roll of the dice (2 four sided dice) as anything; however, randomness has always been a part of gaming. In this case, it is the randomness that makes the game interesting--that combined with decisions such as whether to grab a coin and run, or take out an opponent's pirate!
The game is fun, and that is what counts.

Dig and Play Treasure Island by Toysmith Review

Dig and Play Treasure Island by Toysmith

This was bought for our 10 year old son, for Christmas. He loves digging for the treasures. The problem is, for him, is that all his siblings and parents love digging up the treasures too. So, this would be good for any age. We will probably get his other siblings one next year for Christmas too. We have not played the game yet...we are still trying to dig out the hidden items.

Tomy Pop-Up Pirate Game Review

Tomy Pop-Up Pirate Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a speech/language therapist, working with pre-schoolers age 3-5. They love this game! The anticipation of the pirate popping holds their interest (long enough to do their therapy) and they don't have to wait long for another turn. I wasn't thrilled about taking a toy with swords to school, but have only had to tell them once that "we don't fight with them, they're for the game." It has been frequently used, not treated too gently, but it is still in excellent working condition. I do not use the blue base included with the game, it seems unnecessary and only seems to make the game easier to tip over. The kids don't think they lose when the pirate pops, they think they won! Sometimes he jumps out on the first sword stuck in the barrel, other times it might be the last one! (I have no idea how this happens!) This is a very good beginner game, for learning turn-taking, although it is not particularly educational.

Its a barrel of fun for the whole family! Push the pirate into his barrel, select your favourite color swords, then take turns sliding a sword into the barrel slots. But beware - if the pirate pops up you're OUT! The last remaining player is the winner. No batteries required.
