Word Blur Family Game Review

This game really makes you think, but it is a blast at the same time. You get to see how creative people can be when giving clues with the limited words they find, and it is so rewarding when your teammates get your direction. I am a big fan of Taboo, so I was thrilled to find a game that was a step up, challenge-wise.

In Word Blur, The object is to get your teammate(s) to shout out the mystery word (before your opponents) using only the word tiles as clues. 900 basic word tiles are spread out in the center of the table. One player on each team scrambles to find the word tiles that will best describe the mystery word to their teammate(s). Tension mounts as teams get closer and closer to the correct answer. All teams play every round so there are no down times like some games. This is a non-stop party game filled with hilarious guesses, creative clues that will challenge the way you think. Boxes measure 8"?5"?2" and weigh 2 pounds each. Game is for 3 or more players ages 10 & up.

Electronic Guesstures Review

Electronic Guesstures
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, let me say I am a huge fan of the original Guesstures. Game play was fast, frenzied, and just a lot of fun. I thought it was a good idea to make an electronic version of the game, so I went ahead and purchased this.
The concept is still the same - it's really a fast paced version of Charades.
Game play is fairly simple. A word shows up on the screen and you must act it out. If your team is able to guess the word, you push the button and score a point for your team. Push the button again, and another word will show up. Act this word out and try to get your team to guess the word. This continues until time runs out, and the goal is to act out as many words as you can in 30 seconds.
The timer is built in and the game keeps score automatically. There's even an option to contest points if you believe the opposing team was cheating. These are all good things.
The key difference between the electronic and original version is how it handles the "final word." In the old version of the game, if you couldn't act out the last few words, you just miss out on those points. There was no penalty. In this version, your team must guess the final word and you must hit the "completed" button before the timer runs out. If you are in the middle of acting out a word before the timer runs out, you gain ZERO points for that turn. So even if you successfully act out two other words, if the timer runs out in the middle of your third word, you get no points.
The problem with this method is that after your team guesses a word, you must decide if you want the next word to show up or if you want to stop playing and just let the timer run out. Words are of varying difficulty so it's a fairly big gamble to keep going. What ends up happening is people will act out one or two words very quickly and still have about 15 seconds left on the clock. Because of the fear that a difficult word will show up and that all points for the round will be lost, people choose to just stop acting. This leads to about 10-15 seconds of dead time where people wait for the timer to run out. The dead time is annoying because no one is doing anything and the timer just keeps clicking away.
If you can find the original version of the game, I recommend purchasing that. If you can't find it, this version will be fine. Just be prepared for a bit of frustration or dead time.
------
Update Feb 2010: A new version is now available. Guesstures
With this new version available, I must recommend strongly against purchasing the electronic version of Guesstures. The latest version returns to the first and far superior format of the game.

As far as games that exercise your noodle this probably edges out cranium. Even though it seems really simple with having 7 nouns and trying to match up the best one with the adjective on the card in the middle the interactions that occur between contestants is great. Some people try to convince the judge that theirs is awesome, while other players specifically save cards for certain judges even if the adjective doesn't match up perfectly. This is less of a game about perfectly matching up a noun with an adjective and more about all the social interactions that follow.

Can't Stop Family Game Review

Can't Stop Family Game
Average Reviews:

This is a great one to break out when there are kids in the mix, when you want something that isn't too thinky, or when you just want something quick and light in between other heavier games. The "press your luck" component is a lot of fun, even when you "crap out". One of the rare occasions in real life saying "D'oh!" like Homer Simpson actually works.
You can be set up, have the rules under your belt, and underway in two or three minutes, and then the game lasts between 10 and 20 minutes usually (in our two-player games). The bits are sturdy plastic in bright colors, very pleasing.
If your kids like Yahtzee (or if you do), this is a good fun cousin to add to your collection.
Amazon's description of gameplay is quite good, though I will just clarify one thing: on any given turn, you are trying for up to three different dice results. So on one turn, you may go for 2's, 6's, and 7's. On your next turn, maybe you'd try for 5's, 7's, and 10's.

This Sid Sackson classic was actually released in the United States, but it never did well enough commercially to stay in print for more than a couple of years. The idea is quite simple. There is a board with all the possible results of two six-sided dice: two through twelve. The object of the game is to move a little marker to the top of three columns by rolling that result, but you need many more sevens than you need twelves, based on the likelihood of each result. During your turn, you roll the dice and place temporary markers onto the board. You can continue moving these markers until either none of your dice match (your turn is over and all progress you've made is gone), or cut your losses and end your turn (placing a permanent marker in your rows). Nice light filler for opening or closing a session.

I was looking for a game for a teenager and the questions are more for adults over 50 !
Not so fun.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Chicks Battle the Dudes

A Face-Off to see who is the smarter sex... test your knowledge of your better half. When talking fashion or Brad Pitt's love life, the chicks clearly know more. But do they know which Clint Eastwood movie launched him to fame? This team game is designed to bring men and women together, showing that no matter how gender-neutral we try to be, our brains click in on different subjects. Women are asked questions that most men can answer, and the men are asked questions that most women can answer. But there may be a few surprises! The board is designed to be a tug-of-war contest. Pull the rope with each right answer. The first team to pull its opponents into the center of the board wins the game. But watch out - the challenge cards give both sexes a chance to come out on top! For 2 or more players.

Deluxe Box of Bunco Review

Deluxe Box of Bunco
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased this game to have my daughter's "Bunco birthday". It was for her 10th birthday, so the children's ages ranged from 9-10. My 8 year old daughter also played. They had a great time! They definitely needed an adult or two there to help explain the rules and what happened next (especially the table changing after each round).
What seemed to be the most problematic for them was putting the dice back in the cups before rolling. It is just too difficult to fit them into the cups and took too much time. I finally explained that rolling should be quick, so soon enough most of the girls abandoned the cups altogether.
Best thing about this version of the game is the instructions that are included. they explain how you can play with anywhere from 2 - 16 people. It is a fun game for any size group, large or small.
I would not recommend this game for a large group of children under the age of 10. Smaller groups or families, yes, but big, standard "bunco" type parties, no.

Bunco first originated in the 1800's, now this popular dice game is enjoying a resurgence in popularity. There are six rounds of play, each with a different target number (one through six). Roll 3 dice with that number and you've rolled a BUNCO. Light competition and social interaction make this a perfect game for as few as two or as many as twelve players.Ages: 7 and up Players: 2 to 12 Contents: Nine dice (three different colored sets with matching dice cups), Silver-toned bell and score pad

This new game of strategy is addictive and challenging for all ages, and amazingly simple to learn. But make sure you don't lose your chips or whatever you decide to bet with, the tables can turn in the blink of an eye!
Players take turns rolling three dice and have to pass, keep or put chips into the pot based on the resulting roll. Players can use chips, coins or anything else they can think of. Fast paced, easy and fun for the whole family.
The number of L's rolled indicates the number of chips to be passed to the player on the left, the number of R's rolled indicates the number of chips to be passed to the player on the right, and the number of C's rolled indicates the number of chips to be placed in the center, or "pot". (The dots are neutral and players do not pass any chips). The last player with chips, wins the game. It's that simple! Fast-paced, exciting, and fun, it's a great game for kids to play along with adults, providing hours of entertainment for the whole family. Try it once and you'll be hooked!
Choose from blue, red, green or yellow chips.
Game includes:
3 LCR dice
24 playing chips

Banzai - DVD Betting Game Review

Banzai - DVD Betting Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game is truly different and engaging. Players watch a segment of a stunt or skit and then must bet on how the segment is going to end. Betting is done by moving small plastic sushi pieces into a bowl using chopsticks (this can be tricky). The video clips come directly from a Japanese game show and are highly entertaining. No one at our party could resist playing, everyone got into it and couldn't stop laughing. Most of the topics are oriented toward adults so I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 12 or you'll end up explaining some content you might not want to go into with a kid.

I use to play this back in my college days and I as well have no clue where it ended up. Hell, I even forgot about this game while purchasing a drinking game not to long ago and I am kicking my self. This game is a lot of fun and I would definitely recommend it for any party.

Players must do what is indicated by the square on which they land (eg. If a player lands on "Take A Drink," they must then take a drink. If a player lands on "All Drink," all players must take a drink. If a player lands on "Blue Take A Drink," the player using the blue marker must take a drink etc.) To win a pink elephant however, players must recite a tongue twister..."Theophilus the thistle sifter while sifting a sifter full of thistles, thrust three thousand thistles through the thick of his thumb".Get it wrong or round your tongue and guess what...simply take another drink!"Silly Sally sits and shells her peas all day long she shells and sits and sits and shells and shells".Pass-Out...literally! Please note: The Pass-Out Adult Drinking Game is not intended for use with alcoholic beverages and is only recommended for adults over 21 years of age.

LCR - Left Center Right Dice Game - Random Color Review

LCR - Left Center Right Dice Game - Random Color
Average Reviews:

As a bartender of many years I have played this time many a night at work before the evening rush. We play it with the standard Bar Dice Cup, and three normal dice.
Each person rolls one die for each dollar bill in front of them when it's their turn - up to a Max of 3 dice (if your pile is more than $3 the extra is safe).
Rolling a 1, 2, or 3 means you keep the corresponding bill. A 4 and you pass that bill to the person before you, 5 it goes into the pot, and 6 to the next person.
Once it's down to only one person w/ Money (money slowly goes into the pot with each 5 rolled) - then they must roll one last time for each bill. If all bills end up in the pot you re-anti and it starts over...
We've played this with both a $3 and a $5 anti, it doesn't really matter, but we still keep it to a Max of 3 dice per shake. A $5 anti is a little more fun as it's impossible to pass all of your bills on the first round.
This game is fun BECAUSE you're never totally out of it. You may not have any bills in front of you - but a 4 or a 6 could send one in your direction.
Because of the gambling aspect I do not recommend for the full age group they suggest, but for passing time at a bar it is a winner.

Party Pooper Game Review

Party Pooper Game
Average Reviews:

I didn't buy Party Pooper from Amazon, I got it for a gift for Christmas from my parents last year. This game is very fun. Basically, you gather 4-10 players and each player has a turn as the "host" and you read a card and depending on the dice, you pick which person is most or least likely to do what is on the card. (Brief summary) It may sound boring, as it did to me, but it is VERY entertaining, especially when you have some friends and family members! I recommend though that the age on the box is very accurate, 12 and up. There are some cards that are harder for younger kids to understand, so if they are under 10, I do not recommend this, but if they are 12+ then I'm sure you will ENJOY this game!! My aunt and my 15 year old cousin LOVED this game!! If you do buy this game, the instructions say that you only go a few times as host. Well we twisted the rules-we go until the cards run out!! If you have a son/daughter that likes/loves party/normal board games, and is within the range of 12+, I would recommend this as a GREAT Christmas gift!! This gift is even great for adults that enjoy party/normal board games!! =]
I hope this helps your decision.
*I am using my dad's account, I am actually a 12 year old girl. =]
