Debate This Board Game Review

Debate This Board Game
Average Reviews:

Debate This! is a game of debating, but not your average high-school debate team topics.
The game is best played with three teams of two or more players. At the beginning of the game, one player is chosen to act as judge. While the judge does not get to debate, they do have the hilarious job of choosing who wins each debate.
The topics are generally not heavy ones, in fact, quite the opposite. If it is not your turn, you don't have any say in which side of the argument you'll be arguing. This leads to some hysterical moments. I found myself arguing that the U.S. government DOES have undeniable proof that aliens exist, that if the judge of the game were a character from the Wizard of Oz, he would be Glinda the Good Witch, that The Partridge Family would be a more fun family to be a member of than the Brady Bunch, and that "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" was the worst possible song to have stuck in your head.
The downside of the game is that people with chronic giggling problems (yours truly) sometimes have a difficult time debating, as they are too busy laughing. I suppose there are worse downsides.

Cranium Whoonu Review

Cranium Whoonu
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My fiancee and I almost didn't buy it because the description on the container doesn't read like a fun game, but thankfully we did buy it and we've yet to play it without uproarious laughter breaking out.
The game play is simple. Anywhere from 3-6 people can play (we've even done teams when too many people were playing) and the instruction sheet CLEARLY shows you how to set up the game based on the number of players.
One person is the "Whoozit" and the other players each have 4 cards that contain a word, phrase, or concept. For instance, some of the cards are "Fizzy Water," "New Year's Eve," "The Color Black," "Hiking," and "The Olympics."
Depending on how many people are playing, the players with cards put 1 or 2 cards into the included sleeve and then the sleeve is handed to the Whoozit. The Whoozit looks at the cards, sorts them in order of most favorite to least favorite, then puts them in front of the numbered chips with the least favorite card going in front of the "1" chip , the next in front of the "2," etc.
And this is when the real fun really begins. Starting with the least favorite card, the Whoozit flips over the card and reveals the text. The person who "owned" the card takes the associated chip and then the Whoozit flips over the next card and the next and so on until the most favorite card is revealed.
Game play shifts to the next person and the whole process is repeated until each player gets a chance at being the Whoozit. After everyone has been the Whoozit, you add up the chips and a winner is declared.
The great thing about this game is not only how easy and quick it is to set up, but how the game changes each time you play it. There's a certain "luck of the draw" associated with it because you may not have any cards that apply to the Whoozit for your current turn. In that case, you have a tough decision to make, regardless of how much you know the Whoozit.
Further, the game is different every time you play it. One time, I gave "Popsicles" to my fiancee and she ranked it second-to-last. Another time we were playing, someone else gave her "Popsicles" and it was ranked second-from-first. When I gave it to her, she had many other cards she liked better. When the other person gave it to her, she only had one other card she liked more. Imagine my surprise to see "Popsicles" ranked so high that time!
During the holidays, we played this with her family, my family, and twice with a group of friends. We played it again last night with a group of friends that didn't know each other at all. Every single time, the laughter went crazy and we played for hours on end. A couple of times, we changed to a different game just to do something different and each time we ended up going back to Whoonu because it was so much more fun.
This isn't a "how much do you know the other person" game as much as it is just a good old fashioned great time. Knowing the people CAN help, but with the "luck of the draw" aspect, it sometimes doesn't matter.
Bottom Line: FUN!

Banzai - DVD Betting Game Review

Banzai - DVD Betting Game
Average Reviews:

This game is truly different and engaging. Players watch a segment of a stunt or skit and then must bet on how the segment is going to end. Betting is done by moving small plastic sushi pieces into a bowl using chopsticks (this can be tricky). The video clips come directly from a Japanese game show and are highly entertaining. No one at our party could resist playing, everyone got into it and couldn't stop laughing. Most of the topics are oriented toward adults so I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 12 or you'll end up explaining some content you might not want to go into with a kid.

Scene It? Friends Edition DVD Board Game Review

Scene It Friends Edition DVD Board Game
Average Reviews:

My husband and I became Friends fans several years after the show started. We're hardly groupies, but we own every season on DVD and we love games, so for our anniversary this year, I bought the Scene It? Friends Edition. I didn't know what to expect, but the game doesn't take long to understand or play, and unlike many other games, it's still fun for just 2 players. We were surprised by how much we did, or didn't, know about the show. Which brings me to my next point ...
The box implies that non-Friends fans can play this game, but I don't see how that's possible. Many of the questions we've seen could only be answered by someone who's seen the show. So, before you invite people to join you in the game, make sure they really know the show.
But Friends fans will love it! Enjoy.

The Ungame Review

The Ungame
Average Reviews:

I've had the opportunity to play The Ungame many times. I assure you it will bring you many hours of fun with family and friends! As you must sit quietly unless it is YOUR TURN, one is forced to listen attentively to the player whose turn it is. Pay close attention, take notes if you want. (I took LOTS of notes and had so much fun with them!) When it is your turn, if you land on a space which allows you to ask a question or make a remark, you can then use these notes.
While playing this game, you'll learn more about the other players (and possibly yourself) in one hour than you have in a year in most cases. Why? Because you are LISTENING! We often hear part of what someone is saying but we don't always listen completely to what he or she is saying as we should. With this game, people are focused entirely on each other as individuals. It's wonderful!
I highly recommend this game for families, for youth groups, for church groups, for support groups, and for anyone who wants to simply learn more about his or her family and friends. It's a win/win situation. I love to play and am always ready to learn about myself as well as the other players. Have fun with the Ungame!

The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Game Review

The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this kind of board game - it's basically a variation on Balderdash, except instead of providing your own definitions to words, you come up with your own punchline/quip for a cartoon. One person per round has to not only pick their personal favorite among the players' captions, but also has to match up each caption to who they believe wrote it. Don't let the New Yorker name scare you off, thinking this would be too highbrow for many people - the cartoons are broad enough (and family-friendly) for players of all ages.
It's not easy, which of course is what makes it worthwhile. It's tough coming up with something funny to say about random cartoons - especially the ones that aren't particularly funny looking on the surface. The timer runs only 45 seconds, which I humbly suggest you either A) ignore the the first few times you play the game, or B) maybe turn over twice to give everyone 90 seconds. I understand the importance of having a time limit - each player has exactly the same length of time. If you have to scribble down a one-word caption because you're out of time, so be it. But 45 seconds goes by really quick - unless you're the wittiest person at the table, you'll probably spend most of that time staring blankly at the picture on the card.
Also your mileage will vary depending on the personal gameplay style of yourself, your family, and/or your friends. This is quite honestly the type of game that could possibly result in a lot of hurt feelings if any players get too analytical about other players' work. We had some of that when my family played over the holidays - too much nitpicking of what is or is not funny to people can really wear on the nerves. Best, in my opinion, to kick back and enjoy it - don't overthink the cartoons. I just think this kind of game is more fun when people aren't taking it too seriously.
The other weird thing about the gameplay is the way board-movement is structured. There is a single six-sided die that each player is supposed to cast prior to their turn. It's hard to explain without seeing the board, but we ended up discarding the die altogether and having each player advance (or not) based entirely upon the results of their matches. (The player who has their caption chosen as favorite is allowed to advance two spaces, the player who is matching each caption moves one space for each correct match.) Rolling the die each time - in addition to moving spaces based on correct matching - will result in a VERY quick game.
It should be noted that the game simply won't be as much fun with less than at least 4 players. I'd say 5 or 6 players is ideal, more variety and harder to match up all the captions. Definitely a recommended family board game.

The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Board Game is based on The New Yorker's popular Cartoon Caption Contest. This New Yorker board game is one of immeasurable creativity, unmatched wit and uproarious humor... and you are responsible for, well, most of it! If a picture speaks a thousand words, surely you can come up with a few of your own in this hilarious caption board game. The object is to guess which player wrote which caption for a given cartoon. And don't worry about not being funny -- in a board game like this, even the 'bad' captions are part of the fun!

I laughed so hard I cried... twice. When my friend said she was having people over to play board games, I looked for any excuse I could to get out of it. I'm not much of a game person in a social setting. I either get extremely competitive or frustrated if people aren't staying on task. But I had an amazing time. This is the perfect game for a small party whether you're playing with people you know well or acquaintances, because it generates non-stop conversation. My favorite part is hearing how other people think you would answer a question about yourself. It's nothing invasive or super specific and you could still play with total strangers. The rules are easy and the scoring is pretty straightforward. The dry erase boards are easy to use. The only drawbacks were minor. I kept losing the top to my marker. I imagine if you played this regularly, you'd want to have some extra markers on hand. You need at least three people to play.

This is a great game - or set of games more accurately! Each of the different mini-games inside are a blast. It was the most fun a group of 7 of my friends have had in years playing a game. Loaded Questions Review

This game was recommended to us by another group of friends who loved it! This game is definitely meant to be played by people who don't mind sharing some information about themselves. At first, you think the game is all about self-disclosure, but eventually, the competitive side of you comes to the realization, it can be all about stretching the truth a bit.
The questions are hysterical, and have given us much amunition to constantly tease each other about answers given. Questions to the group range from "If you could rid the earth of 3 creatures, which 3 would you dispose of?" or "On a scale of 1-10, how hard of a worker are you?" The person reading the question then has to guess who answered in which way. Sometimes there is a reversal, and everyone in the group has to guess how the person reading the question would answer.
Lots of fun, for a variety of groups...I have played with friends, colleagues and family!
