This toy has provided hours of innovative play. It has background beats to which my son adds his own improptu melody. We have also mastered some simple tunes like Twinkle Twinkle. He plays, I dance to his music. It's fabulous.

I think it is a good tool for helping a child to think outside of the box...word association skills. Good for creative thinking, sequencing and word relationships.

When the Jabber Wacky gets going, it's word association gone mad. Add words together like this: "Pizza Pie! Pie Apple! Apple Dumpling! Dumpling, uh...'" Can you keep up with everyone else, or did you get stuck' Feeling challenged' Just wait until the Rewind bonus round! The Jabber Wacky unit records the whole volley of words and plays them back, stopping here and there to make you remember or guess which word came next in the sequence. As the words fly, the pace accelerates. First team to score 20 points wins. Requires 3 "AA" batteries (not included).

Smash or Trash Review

Smash or Trash

We've played this game with people aged 10-65. I love how this game brings out a player's creativity and silliness and often surprises the group! My usually very serious brother put together a great song about driving in traffic and road rage and sang it to the tune of The Proclaimers "500 Miles." He had it rhyming and everything! Ha!

Smash or Trash is the game where players make up hysterical new lyrics to popular hit music! Are you witty enough to write a song about fast food, homework, doing the laundry or perhaps rabid squirrels? Have you enjoyed chart-topping music from recent decades? If so, then this is DEFINITELY the game for you. A good sense of humor is better than a great singing voice when you play Smash or Trash. Put your creativity to the test as you compete for top praise from the critics (other players) who will declare each song you write to be a Smash hit or just plain Trash. Every player will get both a Songs card and a Subject card at the beginning of each round. Players are then given time to write as many new lyrics as they like about the subject to the tune of one of the listed songs. The songs are performed and players vote for those they like best. Once all the rounds are completed the player with the most points wins!

Vtech - KidiJamz Studio Review

Vtech - KidiJamz Studio
Average Reviews:

Electronic toys annoy every nerve in my body. My poor neglected children are usually stuck with wooden toys or other non-noise making toys. In general, I believe electronics take away from the play value of the toy and make a lot of noise.
After seeing this recommended in several parenting magazines that aren't huge brand promoters, I took a closer look at this toy. I was skeptical it could be all that the recommendations and the few reviews claimed it to be and prepared myself to be disappointed.
That said, this toy is awesome. It is really more of a sound mixing board than a keyboard.
The niftiest part for me is the wheel that allows you to pick a style. For instance rock, dance, etc. If you turn it to rock and press "Old McDonald's Farm" it plays a guitar driven head-bangeresque version of the song. If you turn it to dance it switches the song style to a techno version. What is really nice is that it doesn't just play the song the same way but with "guitar sounds", but it actually plays a completely restyled song for each genre. Also, all of the buttons, the scratching disk, and mixing options change to fit that genre.
This is on a different plane than the usual noisemaker keyboard toy. There are a seemingly infinite number of ways to groove with neat options yet no learning curve! The whole system draws you in and you can't help but be inspired to create and make new things.
After being grossly disappointed in the horrible Vtech camera I bought them last year, I am relieved to see a quality product for childrens' electronics. I can tell someone put a lot of thought into this toy.

6 ft Piano Mat Review

The piano mat is a great toy. Both of my kids who love music and dancing enjoy it a lot.
In reference to the comment about a toxic smell: the piano mat doesn't smell at all (and I am very sensitive to that). May be it was another brand, but the piano made by Smart Planet and sold by Back to Basics doesn't have any toxic or other smell. By the way it's cheaper on Amazon than their own website.

See And Spy Counting Board Book Review

These books are good but I originally bought the soft vinyl bath books ("Mimi's Toes" and "What Floats?")to read to my son and saw that they were made of PVC(polyvinyl chloride)!!! If you do the research PVC is very harmful to children. I am very disappointed that Baby Einstein would sell books made of this harmful plastic and I plan on letting them know that. I have purchased ALOT of Baby Einstein products but I am so mad about this that I don't plan on buying anymore.
The bath books are still shown on Baby Einstein's website so I am sure they are still being sold, so watch out and make sure your kids toys are not made of PVC.

Being a Dad, I played this with my daughter. It is okay and a bit too long. I would see this game as a big hit with an all girl slumber party. The questions would spark a lot of debate with the girls! A nice way to put it!!
It is neat how the center console works by just waving over it.

Electronic Catch Phrase Music Edition Review

Electronic Catch Phrase Music Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a fun variation of the Catch Phrase game that has been around for years. My family has enjoyed both the electronic and standard versions of this game.
This version asks users to guess song titles from the 60's on up. It gives you the song title and artist and you must get your team to say the song title without using any of the words from the title. It has a very fun added twist with the new "singing" rules. You can opt to play with the old standard rules, too. But for the new rules, you must get your team to 15 points (instead of 10) and you can get a bonus point when you win a round if someone on your team sang their clues. You're never required to sing, but you'll find yourself compelled to do so if you are competitive and that makes the game a lot more fun.
One minor annoyance is the electronic display width. It is too narrow for some of the long song titles. If you're unlucky enough to get a long title you'll have to sit there for a few extra seconds waiting/deciphering the words while they scroll across across the screen.
Another annoying problem we encountered was the game automatically shut itself off after being inactive for several minutes. We were in the middle of game and took a snack break and the game shut off and lost our scores.
Despite that, I would still highly recommend this game because it is so much fun if it didn't also have a fatal flaw. Repeats. After just a couple of games played we started encountering repeated song titles! We thought at first it was an aberration, but not even close. We scrolled through 10-20 songs just to find new ones that we hadn't played already in the hour or so we'd been playing. Then we would hit new titles for a while only to find a short time later the same problem!
It is not as if we went through thousands of songs before this happened. I think the first time we had probably been through about 50-100 songs when the first repeats hit. We were playing on the combined category settings (instead of one particular era it was giving us songs from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's). I suspect that is how most people will play it so to have this bug in the electronic game is just inexcusable. I'm sure we likely went through a small percentage of the songs stored in the games memory. Too bad the game comes to a screeching halt with this horrible bug. The game is a riot until the party comes crashing down once the repeats hit after a couple rounds.

There is no better party game for music lovers than Hasbro Electronic Catch Phrase: Music Edition. Recommended for ages 12 and up, this game grills you on music of all genres from the past four decades, forcing you to rack your brain for every bit of musical knowledge that you have. A Thrilling Musical Quiz Electronic Catch Phrase: Music Edition is essentially a high-speed musical quiz, except that you're the one giving the clues. Just like classic Electronic Catch Phrase, you've got to grab it, guess it and pass it on before you get buzzed. When it is your turn, the electronic display will give you a song or musically themed phrase that you will have to describe to your teammates. It is your teammates' objective to guess the word or song, so you'll have to think on your feet and provide the best possible clues. Do whatever it takes: shout out clues, ask questions, quote lyrics, or hum the melody. You can even score additional points by singing the song's lyrics. Once your team has guessed correctly, pass the electronic display to the next person before you get buzzed.Endless Party Fun The ideal party game, Electronic Catch Phrase: Music Edition features a seemingly limitless amount of content. The clues are diverse, chosen from the '70s, '80s, '90s, and 2000s and covering many pop genres, including classic rock, hip-hop/R&B, country, and oldies. The topics range from well-known to obscure, so there is something here to please people of all skill levels. To make things easier, the game has an intuitive electronic interface. Easy to operate, the electronic display has a built-in timer, buzzer, and scorekeeper, which eliminates the need for messy manual scoring. The display screen is brightly backlit, so you can clearly see it even in the dark. All in all, it's a great way to have fun at any social gathering.

I got this product for my 12 month old daughter becuase i noticed what appeared to me to be musical ability and she loves it. She can play a song and then pound a rythm on the keys along with the song and she then, or the musician in her, also keeps time by taping the feet.
I love it becuase i am threilled to see her enjoying it so much, but also because it so piano like . I can really see that she has a little music thing going on .. so we'll see what the furture holds.
i have only had it for a month so i can't speak to durability beyond the fact that my daughter throws it down just as often as she plays it and it is still working
