I have played games that the playable area on the board gets smaller as the game progresses, but in this game the board literally get's smaller. When I first unpacked the game, I thought the board was missing, until I realized that the pieced were the board. I haven't played any game like it, so it's really hard to compare it.
I really like all the games that I have played so far in the Gipf project. The rules are very well thought out and balanced. I gave this project 4 stars, because I gave my favorite gipf project game, Dvonn 5 stars.
All the games are made of excellent quality and the pieces have a really nice heavy feel. One story I would like to share is that my game was missing 4 marbles. I decided to email the game publisher before going through the trouble of packing it up and returning it to Amazon. I emailed them on a Sunday afternoon, they responded with an apology on Monday morning, mailed out the replacement marbles that same day, and I received them in the mail one week later. That was it; no questions asked...nice and simple. It's good to see that customer service is not lost on everyone. Thanks to Donco and Smart publishing for your help.
So if you would like to support the little guys and also get to play some great games, I definitely recommend the games in this project. [...]

ZERTZ is a fast, dynamic game for 2 players. It is played with 5 white, 7 grey and 9 black marbles on a board that gets smaller and smaller. The aim is to capture either 3 white, 4 grey or 5 black marbles, or 2 marbles of each color. To capture you must jump with a marble over another marble. Sounds easy? Not when you know that both players play with the same marbles. And because the board gets smaller with every move, you and your opponent are forced towards a tense situation in which any move could be the crucial one...So, be careful: if you create a trap for your opponent at the wrong moment, you may well face the consequences yourself!

Cluzzle Review

Cluzzle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OVERVIEW: Cluzzle covers the somewhat odd "world" of clay puzzle making.
Basically, each player must create a puzzle (or should I say, "Cluzzle") of an object, action or idea, but must create it in such as way as to avoid it being too easy. The trade-off is that one must also be careful as to not make the puzzle too hard, or risk receiving no points at all for their masterpiece.
My group played this using the latest edition rules which do away with the question markers and allow for unlimited questions each round, with the only requirement being that one question must be answered before a new one is asked (to avoid yelling over each other). We also saw fit to play with a house rule that required the person asking the question to pause for a second after their question was answered, to allow time for someone else to start a question. This really helped keep things civil, and stopped one player from "grilling" another under a hot lamp (We tried the old "good cop/bad cop" routine, with mixed results).
In each round, the value of each cluzzle rises by one point until the last round in which cluzzles are worth 3 points. This point scheme applies to both the guesser, and the cluzzle-maker, with both being awarded for a correct guess. In some cases, multiple guessers are awarded.
THE HIGHS: First, the clay itself is quite nice. You can tell that there was an eye to quality here, and while the amount of clay is slightly limiting, it is nice to know that the next time you come back to play, the clay will still be moist enough to work with.
Additionally, we found that the choice of puzzles to create was very random, and didn't follow any one theme. This makes the game much more challenging, as one doesn't know if the puzzle will be a vegetable, or an olympic event. Also, there are enough catagories that it would be nearly impossible to recognize one from a previous playing.
The laugh factor is huge. We played with a 20-something crowd, and found that the jokes were pretty much endless. A good laugh was had by all, as we pointed out various alternate possibilities for puzzles, or scratched our heads trying to figure out just what that extra glob of clay was meant to represent.
THE LOWS: Only a few things come to mind here. First, the play money is a little tough to work with. It's thin, and sticks together, making it difficult to hand out. All of those playing felt that it would have been better to create a scoring track on the center board, and have each player place a dab of clay denoting their score.
Another item that may have been useful would have been a cardboard "blind" so that others couldn't see your puzzle in it's creation stage. Many times a player will cloud their puzzle in mystery by removing certain give-away attributes, and it would have been nice to have a screen that blocked others from seeing.
OVERALL IMPRESSION: I was a bit stunned by the response "Cluzzle" received. From the most serious players, all the way up to the strictly party-gamers, this one was a success. I had the impression that most felt this was a game not meant to be played at every opportunity, but rather one that would be called on to provide a little comic relief, especially after a longer, more serious game.
I would be inclined to recommend this game to families with young children, as this could be the "Pictionary" of their generation. I would also recommend this to people who like party games, or have friends that would provide extra humour to their creations.
Overall, this is a suprisingly good game worthy of the consideration of almost all gamer types.

Cluzzle is the comical game of Clay Puzzles where players outwit their friends through bad sculpting, tricky questions and insightful guessing. The challenge is to create a clay sculpture that others will guess - eventually. The longer it takes for the other players to guess a sculpture correctly, the more points the sculptor receives. Many party games reward players for conveying a concept as quickly as possible, so those with an artistic ability have an advantage, but Cluzzle allows kids to do just as well as their parents, and lets art class drop-outs compete with the local Michelangelo. This fast-paced and entertaining game is fun for everyone.

I don't have the money to buy a very expensive set of shell and slate stones, so I purchased these. So far, I have been happy with them. They are a decent set of glass stones; they make a nice sound on the board and feel okay in the hand. I really enjoy go, but my husband doesn't. Of course you can use the set to play gomoku (connect 5) or othello.

I ordered this (actually cheaper at Drugstore.com!) for my preteen and teen children to play. There wasn't much interest on Christmas morning between all the other gifts, but once the novelty wore off from all the high tech gifts a few days later, I challenged the kids to a game. It's a lot of fun and is different because you can't really sit around a table to play. Everybody is up on their feet looking at the tower from all angles to move their column. I was the loser 3 times in a row, and I didn't do it intentionally like a parent would for younger children! It was a lot of fun, and for parents with younger children it would be pretty educational to teach balance and physics principals. Guess I had better get a grasp on them myself!

Pente Game Review

Pente Game

Pente is one of those games that you love to play over and over again because the better you get, the harder the game is. It teaches kids (of all ages) strategy and creative problem solving while giving you a chance to crush your opponent. :) There's even a players federation (www.playpente.com) that has been started to help foster online and offline play in tournaments and clubs. Pente is not as complex as chess to learn (each piece does essentially the same thing in Pente as opposed to different behaviors for different pieces in chess) which makes it an excellent entry game for kids. Adults enjoy it because it's fast-paced enough to not drag on all night but not so fast you can't have a good glass of wine and a conversation with your opponent. All in all, Pente is one of the finest games around and would have stuck around longer in the 80s had it not been for the boom of Trivial Pursuit. It's a bargain at twice the price!

Alhambra Strategy Game - Spiel Des Jahres Game of the Year 2003 by Rio Grande Review

Alhambra Strategy Game - Spiel Des Jahres Game of the Year 2003 by Rio Grande
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Alhambra is a great game plain and simple. It is suitable for children who can perform basic math and people who are not "gamers".
The basics: Everyone is dealt money cards and the object is to by pieces of your Alhambra (castle or house, if you will). If you pay the exact amount then you get another turn. At the end of each round, whomever has the most of one color gets X points. There are certain rules that govern how you may place your tiles, for example, you must be able to get to the center of your structure without leaving it (so your walls can not isolate different rooms from the center). The tile laying is the most complex part of the game but that is not saying too much. If you can't buy a piece of your Alhambra then you can draw money instead. There is a little more to it but that is the basics.
Quality: Everything from the board to the cards is really very nice. The scoring markers are made out of wood and not plastic, the cards are nice, the board is decorative, even the box that contains the game has specific compartments where all of the pieces fit.
Conclusion: If you are looking to expand from normal games like Monopoly to something a little different then this is a great start. It is no harder to learn than Monopoly or Risk and is just as fun. It is not a very "confrontational" game meaning that you can't pick on any one person so it is a good family game that will keep everyone involved throughout. The box can look a little intimidating but don't let it, expand your horizons and check this one out. It will last for years.

Granada, 1278. At the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, one of the most exciting and interesting projects of the Spanish Middle Ages begins: the construction of Alhambra.Experience, over the course of the game, determines how the construction of this Spanish wonder takes place. The game is easy to learn: just a few rules and you're ready to play.1. Each round, you must decide: Do you take a currency note, so that later on you can acquire a valuable piece of the Palace - a Pavilion or a Manor for example?2. Or do you purchase one of the available Palace pieces to expand you Alhambra? Be careful as you won't receive any change. However, if you can pay the exact amount, you will get another turn immediately!3. During the scoring rounds, you will receive Victory Points for having the majority of any type of palace piece. But that's not the only way to score points: the longer your City Wall, the more protected your Alhambra will be, earning you additional points.

Colosseum Board Game Review

Colosseum Board Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a board game fanatic, and I love games with strategy and lots and lots of bits. This game delivers.
There are tons of tiles, cards, tokens, and colosseum parts, and a big board, all very sturdy and nice looking. There's a cloth bag to hold the tiles. The box is packaged very well and even includes a sheet to explain where all the parts go (to make sure you can get it all back in the box).
This is just a shade more complicated to learn than games like Ticket to Ride, but it's easy once you get the hang of it. There is some fairly easy strategy and decision making, and there is some auctioning and trading, but again it's very controlled (shouldn't be much bickering). Figure out how to upgrade your colosseum, gather the resources you need, and put on the best show possible to score the most points and win.
My only disappointment is its not a two player game (3 to 5 only)--sometimes I have trouble finding a group to play. Definitely recommended.

Ingenious Review

Ingenious
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After playing and enjoying Lost Cities by game designer Reiner Knizia, I decided to stop by our local game store and check out Ingenious. Last night my wife and I played it for the first time, and as with Lost Cities, we loved it.
Immediately after playing we wanted to play again. There is no doubt in my mind that we will not tire of the game. The common quality that Lost Cities and Ingenious share are the "addiction" factor; both games will have you saying "let's play again" over and over again at the expense of sleep. I don't believe a greater compliment can be said about a game than this.
Ingenious is incredibly easy to learn, and takes less than 1 minute after setting the game up for you to begin playing. Game play consists of playing hexagonal chips of 6 different colors on a board in turn-based play. The chips are like hexagonal dominoes, have 2 hexes connected, and each hex containing a different color. Once no chips can be placed upon the board, the game is over. The player who has the lowest amount of points for any of the 6 colors loses. Game strategy requires that you score points for each color, and this requires concentration and strategy.
Understand that Ingenious is not a strategy game that will leave you frustrated, overwhelmed and weary. No, ingenious is not like that. Ingenious has just enough strategy to have you scampering to win, and just enough random luck to make it unpredictable. And my favorite part of Ingenious? All players know that when the board is full, the game is over. There is an end in sight, and just like Lost Cities, you play against yourself just as much as you play against your opponent. Your strategies can kill you, or leave you the victor. Spend too much time acquiring points for one color, and you might sacrifice your victory.
Try it, you won't regret it. I paid over $35 at my local gaming store, and it was worth every dollar. The game is of sturdy components, as to assure you will be playing it in 10 years. For 1 to 4 players. Yes! You can even play this addictively fun game solo!

Ingenious is the new abstract placement game from internationally-renowned game designer Reiner Knizia. Players place colored tiles on the hexagonal board, scoring points, blocking opponents' tile placement, and trying to protect themselves from being blocked by their opponents. Marvelously elegant and compulsively replayable, Ingenious is an excellent introduction to German-style abstract board games. It's ingeniously simple, and simply ingenious!

Winner of an International Gamers Award in the General Strategy category for 2003.
Chosen Best Strategy game in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands and USA
Winner of the Golden Feather for the best game rules.
THIS GAME ROCKS!!!
I am a game collector and have played them all. Honestly this game is by far the best game I have ever played. My friends and I are literally addicted to it. Having NO DICE at all means 100% strategy and ZERO LUCK. You have to make the right decisions or you WILL lose. The best part is that you will not find a winning pattern on this game. The strategy used to win in one game will be useless once your friends catch up on it. This means each time you play it will be different.
Here is a raw description of this great game.
Each player has a small board with city and land spaces to build on. You start with one plantation and a small amount of money. Each player in turns will chose a role according to their strategy. These roles will allow you to create more plantations, build structures in your city that will help you according to your strategy (e.g. warehouse, office, factory, harbor, etc), bring in workers for your crops and buildings, produce goods, and sell or export those goods in exchange for money or victory points. You have to choose these roles carefully since they will also make or break your opponents.
Each building you chose to purchase will give you an advantage and will cost differently. The most expensive building will give bonuses at game end. So you must choose how to spend your hard earned money wisely. The crops you chose to build also work differently. Corn can be produced quickly and in larger amounts and have little to no value in the market but gives you an edge while exporting. On the other hand coffee is slow and hard to produce but will sell nicely in the market giving you a large amount of money. Of course you can produce a little of everything if you wish, though it takes more time.
It will take you a couple of rounds before you get a hang of this game but once you do there is no turning back. You will get hooked, guaranteed. The game is at its best with five players so include as many as you can. It can be a bit pricey but have in mind that every single piece of this game is made of high quality material. I'm saying no plastic but wood pieces, and the tiles and boards are made to last a lifetime of total abuse. You will not find this quality in any Hasbro game. This game looks like a Special Collector's Edition kind of thing. It is very educational and will stimulate your thinking cells to the max. Game play will last about 1½ to 2 hours.
An EXPANSION PACK is available which you can download for FREE at riograndegames.com. This expansion pack is awesome and a must for experienced players.
If you call yourself a game player and have not played Puerto Rico you have missed on one of the best experiences in your life. This is a no brainer. Buy this game and thank me latter. BRAVO Amazon! I never thought you will listen to my pleads to include this awesome game in your site.
EXPERTS: To make this game even better we raised the victory points to 200, use all the expansion tiles and invented a large building bonus card called World Bank - It will allow it's owner to count all the doubloons he has in hand as victory points at game end (cost 10 doubloons/value 4 vp's). Try it; it will broaden your strategy options.
Have fun!!

The players are plantation owners in Puerto Rico in the days when ships had sails. Growing up to five different kind of crops: Corn, Indigo, Coffee, Sugar and Tobacco, they must try to run their business more efficiently than their close competitors; growing crops and storing them efficiently, developing San Juan with useful buildings, deploying their colonists to best effect, selling crops at the right time, and most importantly, shipping their goods back to Europe for maximum benefit.A novel game system lets players choose the order of the phases in each turn by allowing each player to choose a role from those remaining when it is their turn. No role can be selected twice in the same round. The player who selects the best roles to advance their position during the game will win.
