Pente Board Game 1984 Edition With Glass Stones Review

Pente has very basic rules, but the design and goal of the game can yield intellectually challenging matches that test your skill and strategy levels. Pente is on of those games that takes minutes to learn and a lifetime to master. Just when you think you have it all down, a new opponent can teach you a whole new dimension to the game.
This board game is my all time favorite. Similar to Go and Othello, but 1000x better, Pente will keep you engaged for hours, or days, or how ever long you play it for. If you are tired of boring and mindless games where you spin a wheel or throw dice, Pente is for you!!!

I used to play Pente with my father when I was little. I was really excited to share this game with my 6th grade students. I was a little disappointed to see that the pieces are made of plastic and not glass like the set I had as a child. Despite the plastic, this game is a lot of fun and provides a good intellectual challenge if you let it.

Pente is one of those games that you love to play over and over again because the better you get, the harder the game is. It teaches kids (of all ages) strategy and creative problem solving while giving you a chance to crush your opponent. :) There's even a players federation (www.playpente.com) that has been started to help foster online and offline play in tournaments and clubs. Pente is not as complex as chess to learn (each piece does essentially the same thing in Pente as opposed to different behaviors for different pieces in chess) which makes it an excellent entry game for kids. Adults enjoy it because it's fast-paced enough to not drag on all night but not so fast you can't have a good glass of wine and a conversation with your opponent. All in all, Pente is one of the finest games around and would have stuck around longer in the 80s had it not been for the boom of Trivial Pursuit. It's a bargain at twice the price!

Combining principles of The Go Game, Niniku-Rinju and Go-Moku, it's a modern strategy game with ancient roots. Your goal is to get five of your stones in a row, or to capture five of your opponents. Simple to learn, it will keep you perfecting your game-play far into the future. This version stands out for beautiful colored glass stones and rules for three different kids of play: the two-player version, the team game and all-new Pente Plus. Contents include game board, Pente stones and two pull-string storage bags. For 2 players or teams.
