Skullduggery Eyewitness Kit Dinoworks Tyrannosaurus Rex Skeleton Casting Kit Review

An excellent project for your child's school report. We purchased the Velociraptor kit for our 8 year old daughter not knowing what to expect. After opening the package my wife came up with a clever idea of pouring melted chocolate chips it into the dinosaur molds, instead of using the plaster mix. We experimented with white chocolate chips and created realistic looking dinosaur bones! We buried these edible bones in ground up Oreo Cookies. What a thrill to see our daughter's 2nd grade class excavate these delectible prehistoric fossils!

While this product is not specifically for Legos, I bought it for my son to use with his "Castle" Legos and it is great. We can water the horses on the "river" and use the green area for archery or any other knight play. A great purchase that I would make again.

This was great for my 5 yr. old daughtres bday party, she's into it! and after it casted (easy out too) colored it, then coated with sealer, she uses in sandbox for scavenger hunts, and as a puzzle - just don't get it wet or it will deteriorate! Can also make more with extra plaster of paris (party give-aways to take home & decorate with paint)

Rio Grande Games Trias Review

Rio Grande Games Trias
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a fun game with constantly evolving dynamics and just enough chance to keep the more familiar player from having any severe advantage while still supporting multiple strategies Should you attempt to break off your own continent or over-take the master continent through breeding? Should you advance your own objectives or thwart those of an opponent? Should you save your drowning dinosaurs when the land shifts below them, or recoup their population counts to breed elsewhere? These are most of the issues you will continually be evaluating as the continents continue to shift, divide and join.
As previously mentioned it is difficult to keep track of the tiles without a grid but that said it does not overly inhibit the fun of the game since the distance from center only comes into play maybe every 10 turns on average and even then it is only an issue in the latter stages of the game.

The Triassic age began 250 million years ago with the greatest global catastrophe ever. 95% of all species were eliminated and those remaining moved quickly to fill the voids on the habitable lands. The remaining species seek to find places for themselves on the newly-forming islands that are forming as the pre-continent Pangea slowly breaks up into the smaller continents of the future. By reproduction and migration the species attempt to establish majorities on the new continents. Each player will create the history of one specie, working to co-exist with the other species while trying to establish secure majorities on the new continents. The game ends as the meteorite strikes, ending the age of the great dinosaurs.Players: 2-5 Ages: 12 and up Playing Time: 60 minutes

3D Squares Dinosaurs Game Review

We first saw this puzzle at a dinosaur museum. My husband and three year old son worked on it for at least twenty minutes, happily, without finding resolution. When we left, my son kept bringing it up so we purchased it to keep working. My husband loves mental challenges and this game challenged him. Though my son isn't able to plan his steps as far ahead to solve the whole board, he enjoyed matching individual dinosaurs - and I expect he will be able to enjoy "matching" at each level that he is able over the years.

Dinosaur Magnet Board Diorama-Nearly 3' Long Review

Dinosaur Magnet Board Diorama-Nearly 3' Long
Average Reviews:

The first thing I noticed was how beautiful the artwork of the Mesozoic scene. The diorama is very high quality and the scene spans the environments of the different periods of the Mesozoic Era. On the back of the board is a poster explaining the climate changes and the evolution of the different dinosaur groups(?) during each period. This will be a gift for my nephews but my older son was all over it - younger son really was into the magnet sets. Four of the magnets are collectible to go with the Discover Packs sold separately. Another 16 regular magnets in the set are other dinosaurs from the period, eggs, skeletons, plants etc. There were magnet stands too so the dinosaurs can standing upright, "fighting" (of course) in the foreground or on the board. I like the realism and high educational value - my kids were into the fun - and assume that will go for the nephews as well.

This was just a plastic tray with some holes in it to pour the plaster of paris into. It came with some paint and a paintbrush, but really there is not much to this kit. The book that came with it did not really seem to go with the fossils that we made.

Smithsonian Dig That Dinosaur Game Review

Smithsonian Dig That Dinosaur Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a nice game that is easy for young ones to play - no dice or counters - just simple memory game and matching. And that's why I rated it at 4 stars instead of 5 - it's just a bit too simple.
The game play is simple: You have one set of cards ('middle layer') with dinosaur bone pieces on them - these fit together to assemble 1 of four dinosaurs. You place those face down and then put a 'top layer' larger card on top of each of the them. The top layer cards have little notches in them so you can use the 'excavator tool' to life up the top layer and then secretly peek at a middle layer card. If the piece is for your dinosaur, you take that middle layer. If it is someone else's dinosaur part, you put it back. You keep going until someone assembles their dinosaur (about 6 cards per dinosaur). There are ruby cards (let you take an extra turn) and snake cards (you flip up an extra top layer and whosoever dinosaur part it is, you give to them). The way this works, it is much more fun with 3-4 players than it is with just 2. With only two players, if someone flips up a middle layer card and it's not theirs, they put it back and that's an obvious tip off to the other player that the piece is for their dinosaur. Which makes it kind of unchallenging.
I guess the easy way to describe this is that it is similar to a preschool memory game but changed to resemble a dinosaur bone hunt. Game play takes about 20 minutes or so and there are a LOT of pieces since there are the larger 'top layer' cards and then the smaller 'middle layer' cards. If you lose a card, it severely affects the game so you need to be very careful with this.
For educational purposes, the back side of the 'top layer' cards all have dinosaur facts. But with only 30 of those cards, those facts get exhausted pretty soon. And with only 4 dinosaurs to get the bone pieces of, there's not a lot of depth of play or learning. Each of the dinosaur piece cards is lined by a color, making it easy for kids of all ages to know immediately whether the card goes with their dinosaur.
In all, a nice game but definitely for the very young dino lover.

I bought this for my two grandchildren as a Christmas gift. They have loved it! They are 3 1/2 and 5, and have not only learned to play Bingo, but also the names of all the dinosaurs! We also love the fact that it is magnitized, so the little disks stay on the board and don't get lost so easily.
This game has been a big hit! Thank you.

Jurassic Park 3 Island Survival Game Review

Jurassic Park 3 Island Survival Game
Average Reviews:

The First time I plyed this game was at a Convention for upcoming products from movies (The Mummy Returns, Tomb Raider, Planet of the Apes, ect.). The JPIII Section was the first I tried out. This game reminded me of the old "Jurassic Park" board game. The game's object is simple...try to get off the island without becoming lunch. You can play several different Charecters from the film (sorry, but I wasn't counting how may player there can be). You roll the dice and take as many steps as possible. Watch out, though. Raptors, A T-rex and most of all, The Spinosuarus, will be coming after you. The art design of the cover box looks exactly like the original JP board game design (I just love how in every JP sign, it's always a red-black-and-orange colored sky, kinda like it's always Dusk in JP!!!) This game is great for kids to play, espically if they like JP, which I highly doubt because JP is an old movie an kids won't really get the whole DNA thing or cloning thing untill they're probably 12 (heck, it took me several years to relize the whole scientific ting in JP...I was 5 when I saw it!!!). Great game, Great fun.

Players determine before the game starts whether they will be a human attempting to escape the island--or the dinosaur looking for its next snack. If you choose to be human, the goal is to get through the five dino-packed territories and to the beach before being caught by a vicious beast. First human off the island wins. If you choose to be a dinosaur, the object is to make sure that none of the humans reach the beach. If all humans are defeated, dinosaurs roam victorious. Various cards and a roll of the dice determine the action sequences. Five different breeds of prehistoric beasts inhabit the island, including the pteranodon, Spinosaurus, and T-Rex.

Dinosaurs and Things Board Game Review

I bought this for my daughter (age 4) for Christmas, and she was thrilled to be getting her own game, and about dinosaurs, no less! Unfortunately her enthusiasm (and mine, my almost 6 year old son's, my husband's, and my mother-in-law's) quickly died out as we played. It is advertised as similar to Candyland, which it is. But unlike Candyland, there are very few ways to change the order of the players--once someone gets out in front, they stay there. Even playing at Level 1, when you don't have to answer the questions, it is just too long. And as for the questions...well, there is one question card for each area on the board. On the card is a question for each color on the die. So if everyone rolls the same color (which did happen when we played), then everyone gets the same question. So basically, we are pretty disappointed with the game. The best part about it seems to be fitting the dinosaur puzzle pieces into each side of the board.

Dinosaurs Extinct? Review

Dinosaurs Extinct
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My son is dinosaur obsessed. He received this game for his fifth birthday and as we approach his sixth birthday he loves it as much now as he did when we first got it. He could play it for hours on end.
As for the game itself, it is a basic board game consisting of the board, dinosaur game pieces, a die, number cards, and cards with pictures that have overlays divided into three. As you lift the overlay you can see the dinosaur bones.
The way the game works is that each player chooses a game piece and then a picture card that matches with your game piece. Players roll a die to advance. The games gets interesting when two players land on the same space. Then you each draw a card and whoever get the larger number wins and keeps their spot, the other person must go back the number of spaces shown on their card and expose a set of bones on their picture card. If a player lands on a "no more bones" space then they can cover back up the bones that are exposed. There are some more intricacies to the game but you get the basic picture.
I found this game to be a very successful variation on your typical board game. It has become my go to gift for five and six year boy birthday gifts.

T Rex Battle Board Game Review

T Rex Battle Board Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My ds5 loves dinosaurs and my ds8 loves games, thus the purchase. The plastic game board and pieces really are quite cute and durable. But the game itself is just okay, IMO. When we played it I was kinda tired, but I felt the rules were a little complicated. For a 5 yr old to roll 4 dice and figure out where to move his 3 "team mates" PLUS the T-Rex PER TURN will take some getting used to. However, there is a simplified version and I kinda made up some of my own rules too, so that made it passable. We all liked the dinosaurs "battling" when you landed on an occupied space, but then it took too long to roll a six to get out of the "T-Rex den" you were sent to if you lost the "battle". And the T-Rex chasing everyone around the board, while cute in theory, didn't work so well when we played. Overall, my ds8 liked it, but I don't think he's met a board game yet he wouldn't play again. My ds5, whom I really bought the game for has not asked to play with it again. So I think that says something. Since we paid good money for it, I think we will play again, just to see if we like it better over time. And it does involve some strategy and thinking skills, of which kids always have room for developing.
