HeroScape Expansion Ticalla Jungle Review

HeroScape Expansion Ticalla Jungle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was a great addition to my Heroscape collection. The spiders are not very powerful, but they look cool (as do the trees). However, the expansion set must be used with another set (such as a master set). The set comes with three very large trees and six "bushes" about half of the trees' height. The bushes vary in their looks and the trees vary in their height (and looks if you count the bushes at the base of the trees). This is the second set to come with trees and these are designed more for looks, because these plants cannot be used for cover (because of spaces between leaves). However, unlike the trees from Road to the forgotten Forest, these plants do not rest on top of terrain pieces, the bottom is a terrain piece. I plan on buying a second set because it looks so awesome. It is well worth the money and will make your battlefield beautiful.

Expand your armies with Heroscape! Add additional challenges and obstacles to your Master Set and build your own battle scenario. Block an opponent's path with jungle trees and jungle brush pieces, or send a Fyorlag spider on their trail. The spiders' special power can triple their height when climbing, while their Entangling Web ability could paralyze their opponent. This pack contains 6 jungle brush pieces, 3 jungle trees, 3 spiders, 1 army card, game and scenario guide.

Heroscape Expansion Set Assortment Gorillas & Hounds Review

Heroscape Expansion Set Assortment Gorillas and Hounds
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Gorillanators are a great unit - they have good range and attack and a high move of 7. They always have 1 shield on defense (plus whatever they roll) which comes in handy. Overall they're a solid, if not really exciting addition to the armies of Vydar.
The Marrden Hounds are another unpredictable unit. They roll a d20 to add to their move each time they activate and can have a movement of 2, 4 or 8, with 8 being the most common number. They also have a special ability that can inflict a wound before battle, making them fun against squad level opponents. They definitely benefit from having Su-Bak-Na in play since he gives them +1 to both their abilities. One odd thing about them - they're a two space, large figure with a size of 4. Guess they're not very good climbers.
This is a solid expansion with some good options. Not the best of this wave, but definitely worth having.

Heroscape Expansion Set Collection 5: Ninjas and Samurai Review

Heroscape Expansion Set Collection 5: Ninjas and Samurai
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These melee squads can hit hard and have the ability to punish the enemy when he hits back. Both are essentially standalones. Unlike many bonding units and common squads, you can drop this one pack into your collection and see good results without needing to team them up with specific, rule-mandated allies.
The Ninjas have a good balance of mobility, attack, and defense. With a move of 6 and Disengage/Ghostwalk, they can move to, through, and away from enemy troops at will. They attack with a respectable 4 dice. When an enemy threatens a Ninja with a normal attack, he has an annoyingly high chance to ignore the damage (causing the attack to be wasted) and move 4 spaces for free on the enemy's turn. The only thing the Ninjas fear is a multiple special attacker like Kaemon Awa or Nilfheim.
Although they do use the Counter Strike power, the Kozuke Samurai are definitely more specialized in attack. They can boost their move from 5 to 8 if they use the extra spaces to engage an enemy, and they hit him with 5 dice each. They are most efficient against enemy heroes or particularly tough, boosted squads, as chances are they will waste many precious skulls against low-defense squad members.

Mage Knight Dungeons Pyramid Starter Set - 8f Review

Mage Knight Dungeons Pyramid Starter Set - 8f

Ok, duh, this is not a game for children who still put everything in their mouth. If you are big into prayer you probably won't like it. I am neither and love it. You can do almost anything to the figures and they won't break. If they do the company will replace them. This game is all the fun of Warhammer, with a lot less work. The click dials keep track of all the point values and special abilities. If you like to paint figures, you can get them individually, made out of pewter, and unique. It is easy to learn and easy to play. I would recommend this toy for children 8 and up.

Heroscape Expansion Set UTGAR'S RAGE Minute Men & Wolves Review

Heroscape Expansion Set UTGAR'S RAGE Minute Men and Wolves
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Minutemen are great at ranged combat (range 6) and if you can get them up high and keep them from moving they'll have an attack of 4 (base 2, 1 for height, 1 if they don't move). With 4 figures per unit, that's a lot of dice (mine took down Krug in two turns). They get a bonus if they can mix only with other valiant pieces and it's definitely worth looking up the units to get the bonus. The wolves are also scary - only 3 figures per unit, and they start with att 1, def 4 but each turn they roll a d20 to get bonus attack dice, all the way up to +8. You definitely want to bring Khosumet (also in this wave) along so the wolves don't eat themselves, but rolling as many as 9 attack dice with 3 figures, is an awesome power for only 75 points. This expansion is a good buy if you like ranged combat (4th Massachussets) or hate it (Anubian Wolves). Overall, I don't think it's quite as powerful as the Knights/Swog Rider, but the next wave (The Large Expansion packs) includes some figures that will help the wolves, so I guess we'll see.

HEROSCAPE MARRO CAVALRY Review

Out of all the sets for heroscape I would call this one the one closets to not have the value enough to actually buy it. Really this set was on the edge and I thought about not getting it, but I'm a collector, so if nothing else, for collection's sake I had to have it. They are not bad characters but they could have been better.
Thanks for reading.

Heroscape Expansion Set Collection 5: Soulborgs Review

Heroscape Expansion Set Collection 5: Soulborgs
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These are an excellent addition to a heroscape collection. This set includes the Blastatrons, which combine well with the Gladiatrons, which unfortunately come from a different set. You won't want to use them without Gladiatrons -- though if you find these for a good price, snatch them up and get the others later. The other common squad in this set, the Deathstalkers, are somewhat specialized but useful. But it's the Blastatrons that you want this set for.
By themselves Blastatrons look weak, and they really are, but when paired with Gladiatrons this combination is regularly used by tournament-level players as one of the most effective combinations in the game. Fun too, since playing them correctly encourages imaginative tactics and strategy. The only reason not to get these is if a) you already have plenty, b) you don't have gladiatrons to go with them, or c) you don't want to spend money on heroscape. Two squads of these is plenty, though; most people will never use more than two squads at a time, with perhaps 3 squads of Gladiatrons with them.

Axis & Allies CMG Starter Game Review

Axis and Allies CMG Starter Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Axis and Allies Miniatures (AAM) is a wonderful introduction to the world of military miniatures. It is a well thought out, very realistic tactical game, without being too wieldy. It is compelling for the novice miniature war-gamer to the advanced wargamer, and unlike traditional wargaming sets, requires no modification or painting out of the box. The pieces are well constructed but made out of plastic, so they need a little care in stowage. Small pieces mean not suitable around infants and toddlers, but great for the 12 and up age. My friend's 12-year-old loves playing with me, especially when he wins. My only complaint is that the starter does not come with all you need to start. With 12 random miniatures, you will not get a good enough mix to field two armies, so you need to buy at least two booster packs. Each booster pack gives you 9 random miniatures, but due to the random "collectible" nature of the game, I wasn't able to field a good pair of armies until I purchased 6 booster sets. Now I'm hooked, as much on the collecting as on the playing, and I will shortly have to come up with a better storage system for all my miniatures!

Warhammer 40,000 Review

Warhammer 40,000
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Warhammer 40,000 is the best sci-fi table top miniature game on the market. The game comes with outstanding plastic miniatures that are fun to assemble and paint. The rules are easy to learn and yet challenging enough to play over and over again. I have been playing this game for nearly ten years and still enjoy playing it as often as possible.
Playing the actual game is only a part of the bigger Games Workshop hobby. This hobby not only involves the actual tactical game play, but can also exercise a player's creativity in modeling miniatures, painting, and story writing as they develop the armies they use on their table top battlefield.
All around, this is a great game and wonderful hobby. It will stimulate and excite you to stretch your imagination and become part of an excellent sci-fi universe.

This game is major fun. A buddy of mine and me played this game from 8pm till 2am. I saw the Ad for it on cartoon Network, and thought, hey this looks like Games Workshops Blood Bowl, And I always wanted to play that. This Game cost less than 15.00 bucks when I bought it, better than the 50 dollar blood bowl title. Have No idea if the games are related, but if you like football, tactical stratagy, and mass carnage with cyberpunk overtones get this game. If you know any one who likes just one of these things get this as a gift. This game is simple to learn. Instuctions are 6-8 page pamphlet you can read in 5 min easy. The game will keep you enthralled for hours. Hoping for expansion teams, me and pals have tounaments starting up this week. Last thing, the manufacturer says this game is for those 8 to about 12, most people I know or have seen playing/buying this game are ages 8-40

This seems to have been made for the fan base but for normal gamers it is of very little value.
There are only 4 new scenarios included and no new figures but a few special rules.
I recommend you give this one a miss and go for the much better and playable Pacific and Mediterranean instead, they bring new units and new playing style in a far better value for money box.

Dungeons and Dragons: Deathknell Miniatures Booster Pack Review

Dungeons and Dragons: Deathknell Miniatures Booster Pack

These boxed sets are good for collectors of D&D products. The painting is well done. Some of the smaller figures can be bent easily (especially the bone claws fingers), so care must be taken. There is a wide selection in each box, and after buying several boxes I buy the individual figures I need to finish my collection. This set has a wide variety of creatures depicted, from animals to aspects of gods and all are beautifully painted (especially the Couatl).

Star Wars Miniatures Starship Battles Starter Set Review

Star Wars Miniatures Starship Battles Starter Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Reviewer's note: I wrote a similar review for the booster set, so please excuse me if you see it twice. However, since I didn't know where most buyers would start, I figured it was best to provide the review under both the boosters and the starters to be safe. That said...
I'm a big fan of Star Wars minis (especially Rebel Storm), and I couldn't wait to get my starter and boosters for the new Star Wars Starship Battles minis game. The game/set includes 60 different ships (30 "light side" and 30 "dark side" -- approximately 1/2 are from the original trilogy, and the other half are from the prequel). I have to admit, the ships look pretty cool (especially the smaller ones like the Millennium Falcon, Salve 1, TIE Fighters, TIE Interceptor, TIE Bomber, B-Wings, X-Wings, Y-Wings, etc.), and as I first read the instructions and looked at the ship stats cards, I was looking very forward to playing. In the end (after playing several games with a friend), however, I was largely disappointed with the game itself. Though there are a few interesting twists (like the command effects),the game is pretty basic, and unfortunately does not allow much room for strategy and/or creativity.
The best advice I can give you is to begin with the starter set, which comes with everything you'll need to play (including two exclusive rare ships -- the big guns in the set, eight randomized common and uncommon ships, map, instructions, command cards, damage counters, D20, etc.). You MIGHT also want to buy a couple of boosters (each booster includes seven randomized ships -- one rare, two uncommon, and four common). This way your buy-in isn't too bad; otherwise, it can get very expensive very quickly. You'll definitely get at least a few good games out of it, and if you like the game more than I did, you can easily buy more boosters (that is much better than the alternative of buying a ton of boosters and not being very happy with the game). Also, if you are interested the minis themselves (i.e., to collect them, for use with the D20 role playing game, or to use with some other Star Wars game/scenario), you'll probably be mostly happy with what Wizards of the Coast came up with.
In sum, the game/rules gets 3 stars, and the minis get 4-5 stars (rounded up to a 4 star rating overall). Hope this helps!

ELFBALL Board Game (Starter Base Set) Review

ELFBALL Board Game (Starter Base Set)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

Elves, dwarfs, gnomes with mecha, all meet on the a circular pitch to try to score a goal and win the "test" (games periods). First to a set number wins. This is a fast playing game that you never feel like you are completeley out of it, you opponent may fail a critical roll and if you are ready, you can capitolize on this and score in.
A great game that you can collect and paint the miniatures for. Plays in about an hour after you get the rules down and is a blast to play. Options for one offs, tournies and leagues are all there in a short 10 or so page rule book. If you like Grind by PP or Blood Bowl by GW, you should give this a try. Also if you have tried battle ball and are looking to move to a real miniatures game this is a great step up. Lots of deep strategy but nice consistant and balanced rules, this game stands out as a well designed sports simulation with the element of luck adding to the simulation rather than turning into a lesson on the probability of six sided dice. This game you have more of a gut feeling for die rolls rather than oh I have a 16% chance to fail this.
Overall, if you are looking for a fun miniatures game that plays quick and offers progression options this is well worth taking a look at.
