These melee squads can hit hard and have the ability to punish the enemy when he hits back. Both are essentially standalones. Unlike many bonding units and common squads, you can drop this one pack into your collection and see good results without needing to team them up with specific, rule-mandated allies.
The Ninjas have a good balance of mobility, attack, and defense. With a move of 6 and Disengage/Ghostwalk, they can move to, through, and away from enemy troops at will. They attack with a respectable 4 dice. When an enemy threatens a Ninja with a normal attack, he has an annoyingly high chance to ignore the damage (causing the attack to be wasted) and move 4 spaces for free on the enemy's turn. The only thing the Ninjas fear is a multiple special attacker like Kaemon Awa or Nilfheim.
Although they do use the Counter Strike power, the Kozuke Samurai are definitely more specialized in attack. They can boost their move from 5 to 8 if they use the extra spaces to engage an enemy, and they hit him with 5 dice each. They are most efficient against enemy heroes or particularly tough, boosted squads, as chances are they will waste many precious skulls against low-defense squad members.
