Heroscape Expansion Set - Heroes of Durgeth Review

Heroscape Expansion Set - Heroes of Durgeth
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This expansion features some of Heroscape's best-looking figures, but in terms of gameplay, only one of the heroes is worth going out of your way for. From worst to best....
Runa: a killer sculpt squandered on an unplayable figure. If you're one of those Glyph of Mitonsoul fans who enjoys the "fun" of rolling a d20 for each figure on the board and killing that figure on a roll of 1, you're going to love her.
Kee-Mo-Shi: a very odd mix of powers and drawbacks. She has three different melee attacks, and she can use all of them every turn. But she needs to get adjacent to as many enemies as possible in order to have the best chance of doing damage with her slow-working weapons, so her modest supply of defense and life means she almost always dies before making nearly enough of a dent to justify her cost. Not as random as Runa, but still a bad gamble.
Empress Kiova: useful, but only to the Einar Imperium. Pretty straightforward: as of this writing, she offers that one squad, and that squad only, a defense boost about equivalent to old Raelin's. Her defense of 4, stealth flying, and an aura radius of 5 spaces make her well-prepared for combat next to her fellow kyrie heroes. Also unlike most of them, she looks like an actual flying creature, not a human fighter with a pair of wings Photoshopped on.
Eldgrim: not bad as filler in a game with glyphs. This 30-point viking hero can use Overextend to take an extra turn at the price of a wound, and when he dies, his spirit can permanently add 1 to the move of another unique army card you control. It's pretty easy to get 30 points' worth of good out of Eldgrim in a game with strong glyphs (or any special rule offering a reward to figures who get somewhere fast). Features a very detailed and well-painted suit of armor.
Kaemon Awa: one of the top cleanup hitters in existence. The original samurai hero looks great and plays great. He lacks the life points to bear up long under the most intense combat, but as a skirmisher or endgame figure, 120 points will get you nothing better.

Build on your Heroscape battle game with this unique hero expansion pack. Runa's Helm of Mitonsoul can crush foes up to three spaces away. Kaemon Awa's double attacks and counterstrikes sap the enemy's life force. Toxic skin and Mind Shackle give Kee-Mo-Shi a decisive edge. Kiova's Gift of the Empress boosts the defense of her fellow Kyrie. Eldgrim's Overextend Attack gives him extra turns; if he is destroyed, his Swiftness spirit inspires his followers. Let these heroes help give your army the edge it needs to win. Expansion set includes five painted figures, two double-hex tiles and five army cards. For use with Heroscape master set (sold separately).

HeroScape Expansion Ticalla Jungle Review

HeroScape Expansion Ticalla Jungle

This was a great addition to my Heroscape collection. The spiders are not very powerful, but they look cool (as do the trees). However, the expansion set must be used with another set (such as a master set). The set comes with three very large trees and six "bushes" about half of the trees' height. The bushes vary in their looks and the trees vary in their height (and looks if you count the bushes at the base of the trees). This is the second set to come with trees and these are designed more for looks, because these plants cannot be used for cover (because of spaces between leaves). However, unlike the trees from Road to the forgotten Forest, these plants do not rest on top of terrain pieces, the bottom is a terrain piece. I plan on buying a second set because it looks so awesome. It is well worth the money and will make your battlefield beautiful.

Block an opponent's path with jungle trees and jungle brush pieces, or send a Fyorlag spider on their trail. The spiders' special power can triple their height when climbing, while their Entangling Web ability could paralyze their opponent. Heroscape Expansion Set Assortment Gorillas & Hounds Review

Heroscape Expansion Set Assortment Gorillas and Hounds
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Gorillanators are a great unit - they have good range and attack and a high move of 7. They always have 1 shield on defense (plus whatever they roll) which comes in handy. Overall they're a solid, if not really exciting addition to the armies of Vydar.
The Marrden Hounds are another unpredictable unit. They roll a d20 to add to their move each time they activate and can have a movement of 2, 4 or 8, with 8 being the most common number. They also have a special ability that can inflict a wound before battle, making them fun against squad level opponents. They definitely benefit from having Su-Bak-Na in play since he gives them +1 to both their abilities. One odd thing about them - they're a two space, large figure with a size of 4. Guess they're not very good climbers.
This is a solid expansion with some good options. Not the best of this wave, but definitely worth having.

Heroscape Expansion Fiends and Vampires (part of Expansion set Fields of Valor Collection 7) Review

Heroscape Expansion Fiends and Vampires (part of Expansion set Fields of Valor Collection 7)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This pack really has just two units: Iskra/Rechets and Marcu.
Iskra and her pet unique squad have no value unless played together for a total of 100 points, but Hasbro did the right thing and packaged them together instead of making you chase down two boosters. You start the game with Iskra on the board and the Rechets on the sidelines. Each turn, Iskra moves, attacks, and tries to summon her three monsters. After a successful cast, you plunk them down within a generous radius of her, then immediately move and attack with them without needing to use an order marker. Since both Iskra and the Rechets can fly, it is possible for them to hit a target extremely far away from where she starts her turn. Not only that, but their Lethal Sting power has a chance to instantly kill a small or medium figure every time they attack.
This power comes with a high price, though: not only can Iskra's untimely destruction strand the Rechets off the board for the duration of the game, but she has the potential to squander valuable turns if her order markers are not carefully controlled.
Marcu, a 20-point filler hero, also comes with a great drawback: the possibility that he will fall under an enemy's control for a turn. This also wastes one of your order markers, in additon to the damage he can cause. He's often worth the gamble, though-- his 4 attack dice, self-healing, and ability to fly make him a better combatant than many characters four or five times his cost.
Certainly, neither is a rock-solid foundation to build an army on, but both have a high fun factor and should see their share of play.

Heroscape Expansion Set Assortment Knights & The Swog Review

Heroscape Expansion Set Assortment Knights and The Swog
Average Reviews:

If you're a fan of the Grut then this one will definitely be the best of the Utgar's Rage expansion sets for you.The Swog Rider enhances Orc Archers (+1 Def, +1 Att) and is a Beast so he can easily team with Arrow Gruts (who have Beast Bonding). He's only 25 pts and worth every one of them. He's common too, so you can (and should) put in one for every unit of Arrow Gruts you use. The only downside is that he's a two hex figure, which can sometimes be hard to move to the high ground. The Knights have good attack and defense dice for a squad figure (3 Att, 4 Def) and bond with Human Champions. This means they work well with Sir Denrick (from this wave) but they're even better with Finn and Thorgrim from the base set. They are a little slow on the move (4) but they're tough and strong, even stronger if you send them out with the Vikings.Overall, this is a great expanaion and a lot of fun. Both units have great synergy with existing pieces and they are reasonably costed.

Heroscape Expansion Set Collection 5: Ninjas and Samurai Review

Heroscape Expansion Set Collection 5: Ninjas and Samurai
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These melee squads can hit hard and have the ability to punish the enemy when he hits back. Both are essentially standalones. Unlike many bonding units and common squads, you can drop this one pack into your collection and see good results without needing to team them up with specific, rule-mandated allies.
The Ninjas have a good balance of mobility, attack, and defense. With a move of 6 and Disengage/Ghostwalk, they can move to, through, and away from enemy troops at will. They attack with a respectable 4 dice. When an enemy threatens a Ninja with a normal attack, he has an annoyingly high chance to ignore the damage (causing the attack to be wasted) and move 4 spaces for free on the enemy's turn. The only thing the Ninjas fear is a multiple special attacker like Kaemon Awa or Nilfheim.
Although they do use the Counter Strike power, the Kozuke Samurai are definitely more specialized in attack. They can boost their move from 5 to 8 if they use the extra spaces to engage an enemy, and they hit him with 5 dice each. They are most efficient against enemy heroes or particularly tough, boosted squads, as chances are they will waste many precious skulls against low-defense squad members.

Heroscape Expansion Set Assortment Drones & Minions Review

Heroscape Expansion Set Assortment Drones and Minions
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
No, really. This is the first set where you almost have to buy multiples to really get full advantage.
The Marro Drones are a common squad of 3 figures for 50 points but each time they move you roll the d20 and might actually get to move as many as 9 of them (if you have them). They have a 6 move, 1 range and 3 attack and defense. They're definitely a force to be reckoned with.
The Minions of Utrgar are also powerful but more expensive. They're 110 points for 3 figures. They move 4, attack 2, defend 6! and can fly (they are the first common flyer). They count all successful hits as doubles (so 1 skull = 2 damage) and they can give their move to any Kyrie warrior instead of themselves. Keep them near Taelord and you could have 3 attack with skulls counting double.
This is probably the most versatile set of Utgar's Rage and will definitely be very popular on battlefields everywhere.

Heroscape Expansion Heroes of Elswin (part of Expansion set Fields of Valor Collection 7) Review

Heroscape Expansion Heroes of Elswin (part of Expansion set Fields of Valor Collection 7)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This hero pack will scratch a variety of Heroscape itches: a mayhem-inflicting leader, two well-tuned support figures, and a great filler character. Kyntela Gwyn, the elf girl, is useless at present, but don't let that stop you.
Cyprien, the vampire lord, is a 150-point bully: a lightning-fast stealth flier who deals out d20 damage (the gold standard of defense bypassing in Heroscape) and heals his wounds by drinking the blood of those he slays. That's right, he rewards you for doing what you wanted to do anyway: fly around knocking off weak, overmatched squad figures. His girlfriend Sonya has little value by herself except as a harasser, but boosts Cyprien's dangerous Chill Touch attack as long as she's alive. She has a nice drawback ("Eternal Heartbreak") that will inflict wounds on her if Cyprien is killed, making it less obvious which one to go after.
For 90 points, the Warden combines a range of 7 on his normal attack, a melee special attack of 5, and a move enhancement for all guards you control. He has a high-defense and low-life setup that makes him prone to sudden collapse, but I much prefer his kind of combat-ready support hero over the type that lacks any fighting skills at all.
Isamu, the little ninja, is the cheapest hero in the game at 10 points. The annoyance generated by his Vanish special power must be seen to be believed. On a good day, he can soak up multiple enemy attacks, any one of which might have killed a figure worth three times as much.

Cyprian Esenwein can destroy a great hero with just one chilling touch. Cyprian is even stronger with the presence of his bride, Sonya. Warden 816 will increase your guard's movement. Ok, duh, this is not a game for children who still put everything in their mouth. If you are big into prayer you probably won't like it. I am neither and love it. You can do almost anything to the figures and they won't break. If they do the company will replace them. This game is all the fun of Warhammer, with a lot less work. The click dials keep track of all the point values and special abilities. If you like to paint figures, you can get them individually, made out of pewter, and unique. It is easy to learn and easy to play. I would recommend this toy for children 8 and up.

Heroscape Expansion Set UTGAR'S RAGE Minute Men & Wolves Review

Heroscape Expansion Set UTGAR'S RAGE Minute Men and Wolves
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Minutemen are great at ranged combat (range 6) and if you can get them up high and keep them from moving they'll have an attack of 4 (base 2, 1 for height, 1 if they don't move). With 4 figures per unit, that's a lot of dice (mine took down Krug in two turns). They get a bonus if they can mix only with other valiant pieces and it's definitely worth looking up the units to get the bonus. The wolves are also scary - only 3 figures per unit, and they start with att 1, def 4 but each turn they roll a d20 to get bonus attack dice, all the way up to +8. You definitely want to bring Khosumet (also in this wave) along so the wolves don't eat themselves, but rolling as many as 9 attack dice with 3 figures, is an awesome power for only 75 points. This expansion is a good buy if you like ranged combat (4th Massachussets) or hate it (Anubian Wolves). Overall, I don't think it's quite as powerful as the Knights/Swog Rider, but the next wave (The Large Expansion packs) includes some figures that will help the wolves, so I guess we'll see.

Heroscape Expansion Set Collection 5: Soulborgs Review

Heroscape Expansion Set Collection 5: Soulborgs
Average Reviews:

These are an excellent addition to a heroscape collection. This set includes the Blastatrons, which combine well with the Gladiatrons, which unfortunately come from a different set. You won't want to use them without Gladiatrons -- though if you find these for a good price, snatch them up and get the others later. The other common squad in this set, the Deathstalkers, are somewhat specialized but useful. But it's the Blastatrons that you want this set for.
By themselves Blastatrons look weak, and they really are, but when paired with Gladiatrons this combination is regularly used by tournament-level players as one of the most effective combinations in the game. Fun too, since playing them correctly encourages imaginative tactics and strategy. The only reason not to get these is if a) you already have plenty, b) you don't have gladiatrons to go with them, or c) you don't want to spend money on heroscape. Two squads of these is plenty, though; most people will never use more than two squads at a time, with perhaps 3 squads of Gladiatrons with them.

This pack contains 4 new unique figures for your army. Its a good buy and well worth it.Krug is definitely the figure most likely to catch your eye - he's 2 spaces and really big. He gets double attack (like Syvarris) but has no range. He starts with 8 life, 2 attack, and 3 defense for 120 pts. Everytime he takes a wound, he adds 1 to his attack. He's powerful, but like many powerful figures, he draws fire (which can be helpful in itself).Khosumet is a must have if you play with the Anurian Wolves. He's also a capable figure on his own and provides bonuses to other relentless figures.Sir Denrick is probably the least inspired of this expansion - he's a 5 move, 4 att, 4 defense for 100. He gets a bonus against huge figures but is otherwise unimpressive.Me-Burq-Sa is another Marro leader. He's a warlord with a good move (8), good range (6) and good attack/defense (3 each). He also has a paralyzing stare that succeeds on 16 or higher on the d20. If it works, his opponent gets no defense dice against his attack. Easily the most potentially devastating figure in the bunch.

Heroscape Expansion Set Assortment Roman Legion Review

The Roman army does a great job of capturing some Roman feeling. There are 4 infantry whose special power is the shield wall, adding to their defense while in formation, and 3 archers who can fire volleys of arrows if they're near each other. The figures aren't as intriguing for me as the more fantasy oriented pieces (like the gruts and vipers) but they're definitely a lot of fun if you enjoy roman history at all. Match them up with their General and the mayhem they create can be epic. Just beware of Mimring, because he loves figures in tight formations...

Heroscape Expansion Set Collection 5: Gladiators and Agents Review

Heroscape Expansion Set Collection 5: Gladiators and Agents
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While I was not overly enthusiastic about the agents included in this package, I was rather impressed with the three *unique* gladiator figures. I had originally mistaken them for a squad, but that is not the case. They are actually a trio of unique figures that can share a rather sizable bonus to their rolls if you use all three (including Spartacus) in your army.
All three are good hand to hand combatants, with Spartacus slightly edging out Crixus. Unfortunately he costs more than twice as much as Crixus (a whopping 200 points!), so he's not really worth it unless you plan to use the aforementioned bonus and already have the other two gladiators in your army. If that's the case, I couldn't see any reason -not- to include Spartacus.
The agents themselves have some nice features and a useful engagement strike, but somehow they just aren't my think. They have bonding with another hard to find squad (gorillinators) but without them, I kind of don't see the point. I bought this for the gladiators and I feel it was worth it just for them. Don't miss this one because you definitely want to have the gladiators at your disposal when you need solid hand to hand fighters to rip apart enemy squads and heroes.
