I would not, however, recommend it for children as that the glass is very noisy when hit hard with the pieces, and I have a suspicious that it could break or be dangerous because of its weight. I bought the set for my girlfriend--who loves it--and am happy I choose this one (even though it was more expensive) over one of the wooden or plastic sets. It has a very nice feel to it and is fun to play. The weight of the board and the pieces gives it a certain permanence and importance.
The chess set is very pretty, elegant and usable; though, it is certainly not an "expensive" chess set. That is, there are noticable seams on the clear glass pieces--the board, however, is very heavy. I feel it is worth the price and have enjoyed it immensly.
I recommend it.
