(More customer reviews)This game is a great strategic game and does not take long to get a handle on it. The goal is trying to get as many points as you can through several different methods. For each turn, you can do 3 "actions". You can buy OR play cards of land tiles. Land tiles in sequences of 3 or more earn you points. These tiles also enable you to build toward animal markets. Another action you can do is buy OR play animal cards. Animals (pig, horse, sheep, or cows) are taken to market where you can earn money (to buy more cards or other items) and to earn points. The more markets you get to, the more points. There are also other actions that involve buying water features for your land, building a hacienda, etc. Sound confusing? Don't worry. This game has a nice sturdy card that outlines your sequence of actions with the flip side telling you how many points it will earn.
The game can be played with 2-5 people. It is quite fun and challenging with two people, even more so with 4 or 5 (e.g., makes is harder to get to markets).
The game is very sturdy and the box has nice compartments for everything to fit in.
You won't get bored with this game. Different variations every time you play. Plus the directions offer two other variations of play plus the board is double sided (variations in the market placement).

Argentina at the beginning of 19th century: the pastures of the pampas seem to go on forever. You have enough money to buy land and cattle to build a small hacienda. During the game, players develop their haciendas, increase their herds and land holdings, open new markets, and worry about water supplies and harvests. Also, players must watch their competitors at all times. At game end, the winner is the player with the largest and most important hacienda. The game comes with two game boards, each requiring a different strategy and approach to be successful and win. The game also offers an alternate scoring system, giving players yet other ways to play. Hacienda is a game that requires thought and planning throughout, representing a challenge for each player. The game is for 2 to 5 players and takes about 60-90 minutes to play.
