Awesome game! I can remember playing this in church as a teenager when we would have a youth rally or a game night. This game really got us to study our bible because we didn't want to answer incorrectly and we wanted to be "bible masters." I learned a lot about the bible just by playing this game. I would highly recommend this game to any family, youth minister, or Sunday School teacher.

Left Behind-The Movie Board Game Review

I bought this game for my cousin hoping for a much better game then it ended up being. It moved very slowly. The only interesting part was when you landed on certain squares where you got to either tell the truth or lie and everyone else had to guess what you were doing. Unluckly we only landed on those once or twice in the whole game. Overall I was not impressed with this game.

Playing Gods, the Board Game of Divine Domination Review

Playing Gods, the Board Game of Divine Domination
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Playing Gods calls itself the first satirical board game of religious warfare. Basically, you have 2 to 5 players who each play a different god, and the object is to take over the world by killing off other gods' followers. This is done with the four elements (fire, air, earth, and water), so that includes floods, earthquakes, firestorms, tornadoes, etc.-- and some Old Testament-style death cards like Plagues, Locusts, Darkness, and Famine.
The other way to win is to not kill but instead convert other god's followers-- basically offering them things that other gods can't (such as prosperity, miracles, communion, afterlife, etc.).
The game comes with a set of five god pawns from the major religions (including a "Badass Buddha" with a chain gun), but the rules are not specific to those gods, and players can also be the God of Beer, the Cult of Oprah, Scientology (Tom Cruise with a UFO over his head), the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or any other god. Players can even use action figures ("Darth Vader just killed a bunch of Jews in Africa!") or anything else.
The Good: Setup is very quick, and the pace of the game moves quickly (no waiting ten minutes for your next turn). Many of the cards are really funny, and the idea is well executed. The game is not just a "gimmick" game that you will play once or twice, it has solid game playability and stands up to many repeat playing. The Expansion Deck (sold separately) includes blank cards so that creative players can write their own special attacks, which can be a lot of fun.
The Bad: Game play with five players (the maximum) can take a long time, especially if the players are new to the game and shaky on the rules. A few of the cards might be offensive to some people (such as "One of your preachers is found with a prostitute, lose one sect!"), and the Expansion Pack deck is especially edgy. Some hardcore German-style strategy gamers (those who like "Ticket to Ride" or "Settlers of Catan" for example) may find the game mechanics not complex enough for their tastes.
Overall, it's a game unlike any you have ever seen, and it has a very timely message of peace. It does not make fun of any specific religions or the faithful, it is just pointing out how stupid it is for people to kill each other because they believe different things. The game is 100% indie-- you won't find it at Wal-Mart or Toys R Us, but you can get it here, and should be able to special order it from your local toy, comic, or game store.

Tornadoes! Tsunamis! Plagues! Natural disasters... or signs of gods wrath? Whether wreaking disasters of biblical proportions on innocent populations or bestowing providence and goodwill, the gods have ever made sport of humans. From Cthulu and Zeus, to the Cult of Oprah and The Almighty Dollar, players compete as all-powerful deities seeking to take over the world and force everyone on Earth to worship them! Gain converts by promising them Afterlife, Prosperity, and Miracles, or kill off other gods followers with plagues, locusts, avalanches, floods, and other natural disasters. The god with the best strategy, skill, and luck shall rule the world! Play time 30-90 minutes.

Veggietales Don't Sink in the Sink Review

Veggietales Don't Sink in the Sink

I really liked the clever way the game was designed. You play it in it's own very sturdy box and the black grid can be turned 4 different ways thereby varying the slots that "sink" you just enough to keep the kids on their toes. I even found it hard to remember where the losing slots were. I had a great time playing it with my 4 and 7 year olds. It's a nice family game that doesn't take too long to play - maybe 15 minutes or so. Make sure you play it twice in a row to experience the cleverness of the black grid. There are no small pieces and the life preserver was a cute twist.

Mayfair Games Settlers of Canaan Review

Mayfair Games Settlers of Canaan
Average Reviews:

I have enjoyed Settlers of Cataan for many years, and when I became Youth Minister at my church, one of the first things I bought was this game. It is much like the originial Settlers of Cataan series, but is set in Biblical Israel. Consequently, the development cards are scripturally themed, and instead of having a robber steal cards, a plague (which can be sent away by priests) blocks other players' resouces.
Although it can seem difficult to learn at first, it is actually easy to pick up once you begin playing, as it is a very intuitive game. Now that the youth group knows how to play, we can usually play a game in about an hour, or a little more. A minor drawback is that it only has pieces for four players, but the board is large enough to accomdate more, so if you are up to making or improvising more pieces, five or six (or possibly more) can play.
For those already familar with the Settlers series, this game has a large fixed board, with the five familiar resources and all the old harbour types, as well as one space representing a copper mine (much like the gold mines of Seafarers) that produces any resource the owner desires. There are more types of development cards, and players can also gain victory points by building stones for Jerusalem (for one brick and one ore), thus contributing to Solomon's temple. Whoever adds the most stones gets two extra victory points and can trade one resource at 2:1 (as at a specialty harbour). To make up for this extra source of victory points, the game is played to twelve points instead of ten.
If you already own Settlers, this game does not have much new, but it is still fun and a nice activity for church groups. If you do not own any form of Settlers, but enjoy building games with a nice social aspect, this is a great game for you.

Catechism of the Catholic Church Board Game Review

Catechism of the Catholic Church Board Game

As a professional and volunteer catechist, I've had much experience teaching the CCC to young people. This game is a fun way for young people to get a sense of how much they know (and don't) about the Catholic faith. I don't think it works in a traditional classroom setting (too many players), but for a small youth group (maybe 15 or less) or religious ed class, it's a nice way to engage everyone.
