You play it in it's own very sturdy box and the black grid can be turned 4 different ways thereby varying the slots that "sink" you just enough to keep the kids on their toes. I even found it hard to remember where the losing slots were. I had a great time playing it with my 4 and 7 year olds. It's a nice family game that doesn't take too long to play - maybe 15 minutes or so. Make sure you play it twice in a row to experience the cleverness of the black grid. There are no small pieces and the life preserver was a cute twist.
