The best part is you can roll the die as many times as you want so you could cross the whole board in one turn, just don't get the black star it ends your turn! I love bumping people in The Pit. The only thing is, all those Items you collect to help you are kind of useless and the game is usually won before anyone uses them. For the price, and with a group this is a great game. Easy to learn.

(More customer reviews)My daughter received this game for Xmas as she is a big SUE fan (so am I). The first time we played the game, we had similar thoughts to other reviewers about how it is nearly impossible for Count Olaf to win. However after playing the game a few more times, we found that the game changes each time you play it AND Count Olaf CAN win.
What makes the game different each time you play is the placement of the secret passages on the board. Some placements are better for Count Olaf than others. To help Count Olaf, we also let Count Olaf choose where the game tiles should be replaced on the board when they are used. Sometimes the children just don't get good dice rolls or cannot get unfrozen. Both of these things are also advantageous to Olaf. We've also found that correctly predicting the next room the guardian goes to helps Olaf tremendously.
Since playing Count Olaf is more challenging, we now fight over who gets to play Olaf. If Count Olaf wins, it is something to brag about.
Children 8 or over (including adult children!) can play Count Olaf, or any of the children. My youngest (age 4) always plays Sunny. If your children are younger than 8, I think whether or not they will have fun playing Count Olaf would depend upon how well they play strategy games in general.

(More customer reviews)I got this for my almost 6 year old and he loves it. With 3 levels of play, he hasn't been bored yet (nor have I). Most of these liscensed games are pretty lame, but this one is different each time you play and he loves the "battles". It even teaches a little bit about strategy, math and teamwork! Now that can't be bad. It is durable enough that my 2 year old can help play (she rolls the dice for the bad guys). And at just under $6, it is an excellent birthday gift for the turtle lover on your list!!

Trivial Pursuit Saturday Night Live Edition Review

(More customer reviews)The game is good, as far as trivia pursuit games go. I mean, it's of course a trivia pursuit game centered around Saturday Night Live. We found it somewhat difficult, but then, while us players watch Saturday Night Live, none of us live and die by it.
The thing that we all found most disappointing was the DVD. Given that the game is centered around a TV show, and it comes with a DVD that you use to play the game, we all had VERY high expectations to be watching a lot of little scenes from the show, and to have to answer questions based on that. Or at the very least, little scenes showing parts of the skit once we GOT the answer. Boy were we mistaken. The DVD, although it does contain a few portions of skits, and a few sound bites here and there, is LARGELY just the questions being shown on TV, instead of being on a card. VERY disappointing there.

Scene It? Disney Super Game Pack DVD Game Review

(More customer reviews)I'm a huge fan of the Scene It series and thought that this would be a great addition to my already heaping pile of games. The Disney edition is really limited in its questions, although one would think that with the number Disney movies out there that there would be a huge variety of questions. However, it seems that the majority of the questions have to do with National Treasure and Pinnochio. Also, the questions themselves are poorly done and include things like "find the Mickey Mouse ears in the still shot" rather than actual trivia questions. One might argue that this should be expected from a Disney/Children themed game, but even the Harry Potter edition of this game doesn't dumb it down so much.
Nevertheless, this game was still fun to play. I would reccomend it for younger kids (under 13) and possibly families.

Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? DVD Game Review

(More customer reviews)For those familiar with the fun TV quiz show, this game is very similar. The DVD can be played on your TV or computer. Adults can play with kids (not necessarily 5th graders), kids can play with kids, and even adults can play with other adults, to see who is "smarter." The questions in math, science, English, social studies, etc., are taken directly from the 5th grade through 1st grade curriculums, some of them more challenging than you might expect. Of course, the reason that adults sometimes fare so poorly against ten-year-olds is because much of what kids are learning in school is never used and therefore forgotten.
I have a couple of small complaints. First, there are only 20 complete games, and each game takes about 15 minutes to play, which means that total play time is only about 5 hours. Perhaps I am spoiled by video games which can take hundreds of hours to complete! On the other hand, 20 games for $20 works out to a reasonable one dollar per game. Second, there are only 10 questions per player per game. The total number of questions, including the million dollar bonus questions, is 420. This time I am spoiled by other knowledge-based games with more than a thousand total questions, usually with the option to purchase more. Third, the questions for each game always repeat in the same order, so if a player gets halfway through and then drops out, he must answer the same questions again before getting the chance to answer the remainder of the questions for that game. I suppose this is not necessarily a fault, because it reinforces knowledge retention, but it can get a bit boring for players who drop out multiple times.
All in all it's a good, fun, educational game. I just wish there was more of it!

You play it in it's own very sturdy box and the black grid can be turned 4 different ways thereby varying the slots that "sink" you just enough to keep the kids on their toes. I even found it hard to remember where the losing slots were. I had a great time playing it with my 4 and 7 year olds. It's a nice family game that doesn't take too long to play - maybe 15 minutes or so. Make sure you play it twice in a row to experience the cleverness of the black grid. There are no small pieces and the life preserver was a cute twist.

I originally bought this version as a gift for a friend, we played it together and it was so much fun I had to order another one for myself! Watching the clips from Movies, Music Videos and News broadcasts were fun for remembering the good (and sometimes not so good) events of the 80's. We played it with our children as well, and realized it's educational too, many times we stopped game play to finish the story a News broadcast discussed or expand on a trivia question the kids asked about and even found ourselves "googling" topics when we couldn't remember how it ended.
Party play mode is great for sitting around the living room with friends, no need to get out the game board, all you need is a tv and dvd player (or laptop). The game disk randomly plays questions, clips and puzzles on the screen, as you try your hand at remembering all the songs, slogans, stars and events of an entire decade! What were you doing when.......?
