Rio Grande Games Carcassonne - The Castle Review

My family got this game for Christmas several years ago, and we're hooked! Our game board has been in constant use since then. The first time through is slow as you figure out the rules and strategies, but after that, it's a blast. A combination of both skill and luck, Castle is a different game each time you play it (based on how the tiles are drawn) and the perfect competition for two players. My dad and I have Castle tournaments when I visit my parents, and it can be anyone's game! Highly recommended for people who enjoy other two player games like chess, checkers, backgammon, and cribbage.

Game Description: The imposing silhouette of Carcassonne sits like a throne in the Light of the setting sun. The city also acts as a fortress, protecting those who live there with its inpenetrable walls. Visit the city to discover its many features and to learn why it is so magnificent. An exciting tile-laying competition between two players. Inside the castle walls, the city grows as the players place tiles and their followers: knights to guard the towers, heralds to spread the news, and merchants to sell their wares in the markets. The player who makes better use of his followers will lead the race around the castle wall, which is also the scoring track for the game. There are several items waiting on the castle wall for the first player to reach them. Each will prove useful to the player who acquires.

Carcassonne - The Tower Expansion Review

Carcassonne - The Tower Expansion

We tried out our new Tower Expansion and were pleasantly surprised at how simple the rules were! It added a whole new dimension to the game though, and you really need to brace yourself to have all your potential points taken away if your follower is taken prisoner off of a big city or farming area. It made the game much more intense though, and it really causes you to change your strategy to keep the towers in mind. We also like playing with the tower tiles just as an addition to the regular game, without actually building towers or using the new rules. The tile-holder that came with it was also useful and better quality than we expected. And it still leaves plenty of room to grow with future expansions!

In this Carcassonne expansion, players have the opportunity to build upwards! The lords of the region around Carcassonne erect towers to strengthen and promote their power and influence. They employ followers to stand guard on the towers, watching over the land so they can inform their lords of all who travel and move throughout the area. Players may capture opponents followers, holding them in prison. Later, the players may arrange a prisoner exchange, to the advantage of the players involved. Also, a player may arrange to pay ransom for the return of an imprisoned follower. Fans of Carcassonne will enjoy the new tactical opportunities offered by this expansion. The expansion also includes a special tower for storing the landscape tiles, giving players a convenient way to draw tiles during the game.

Sababa Wizardology Deluxe Board Game Review

Sababa Wizardology Deluxe Board Game

It's beautifully made but definitely more fun the more people play. Makes a wonderful item for any wizard lover, though it's easy to learn which spaces on the board to skip over. My only real complaint is that the box was a bit torn when we got it, despite it being new and shipped through Amazon, and that some of the hats and staffs don't stay put when the wizards are moved.
