(More customer reviews)This Isle of Lewis Chess Set (pieces and pawns) is an absolute treasure in my opinion. My decision to buy this product came down to the product description given by Amazon and the seller---how close to the originals these replicas are stated to be. I wanted something as close to the real thing as possible for a good price. I was not disappointed. These pieces and pawns exceeded my expectations. They are a nice size and weight; they stand nicely--no unevenness or wobbles. Each member of this set seems to have its own unique personality, which makes for an interesting study beyond chess playing. (I've uploaded some images for this product for you to view.) There is an antique, human-made feel about these objects that adds to their appeal. They are not TOO perfect---welcomed in today's world of machine-wrought multi-copies. One suggestion that I have is when they arrive, open the box and set them out for a while as the smell of their new finish can be quite potent, if you have a sensitive nose.. I suppose the finish aroma is probably from being packed and shipped.:) // My favorite piece is the Maple King. More than a game item, he's an fine bit of art with his detailed, bearded face and his regal throne. The Ivory King seems a bit chubbier and younger in his little persona. The chess set would make an exciting classroom addition. You could build whole lessons about observation, strategy, and critical thinking with them. This set would also make a great graduation and / or Christmas gift. The vinyl board allows you to play of course; however, once you see these chessmen, you'll want one of those nice boards to compliment them. Do a bit of searching on Amazon to see the boards available. // Yes, Harry Potter fans will find this set intriguing as well, but remember this set is purely Muggle...no magic other than that of your own imagination and perhaps, chess skills! LOL

This stone-like chess set is a replica of the chess set Harry Potter played on in the movie "Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone". The Isle of Lewis chess set is a faithful reproduction of the earliest known European chess set and is a genuine replica of the world famous Isle of Lewis chess pieces on display in the British Museum.
