This expansion adds 3 new game mechanics.
1.) Bridges - You only get a limited amount but they can help you tremendously by adding a road to your tile so it can fit in the right place. These bridges are fantastic at making farms connect since you can chose to create a bridge as an extension of a road. At first I didn't use them as much, but they can be a very valuable addition.
2.) Bazaars - We haven't extensively play tested this one, but it was fun when we did use it. Tiles are auctioned and people take turns bidding on how many points they are wiling to buy it. The strategy comes down to knowing who needs the piece more and possibly bidding them up, or outbidding them completely. Be careful however because if you bid 4 points then you go back 4 spaces and the auctioneer goes up by 4 for an 8 point spread. It obviously plays better with more people in the respect.
3.) Castles - A very interesting addition to the game. It kind of plays out like the count of carcassonne by allowing you to get in on the other players points. Again it's a very interesting idea, but the rules leave some things up for interpretation. They are especially a problem with the tower & dragon expansion since it allows your meeples to be in the middle of two tiles.
Overall, the bridges add a nice bit of options and that's only 1/3 of the expansion. The Bazaars could be a hit or miss with the group, but I personally like it. There are only 8 auction tiles in there so it's not as if the game is constantly being paused to auction. The Castles are great in there own. I like all three and you'll probably at least like 2 out of 3 of the addition.

The Bridges, Castles, and Bazaars expansion for Carcassonne brings traveling peddlers into the country who setup bazaars where the art of haggling takes place. At the same time, engineers build bridges to enhance road construction while small castles are built everywhere to secure the region.
