The clear coat is so thin on the painted checker/chess board that it scratches extremely easily; yet, in some places the clear coat is globbed on in drops so big they hinder sliding pawn forward. AND!!! ...the set has no rooks. Instead you get four quite obvious queens from a similar but smaller mold-set to use as rooks. So, in other words, both colors have one normal queen and two small queens of about rook height rather than actual rooks. They look so much alike from a players view that they affect game play seriously. THE CHESS PIECES DO NOT MATCH THE PICTURES IN THE ADD OR THOSE ON THE BOX -- you get two tall queens, four short queens, and no rooks. I finally trimmed the tops of the small queens flat with a razor/utility knife and they look more like rooks now but the set is honestly just a mess. Not recommended except for a small child although a child truly deserves more durability, a better board, and real rooks. Therefore, its even tough to recommend for a child. Keep shopping!
