I am basing my comments on the fact I had the classic Game of Life back in the 80's. That game was fun and it was solidly made. The spin wheel was made more like a flywheel (of sorts) to give it that "Wheel of Fortune" level of spin. The extra parts would fit in so perfectly on the board and into the box that you didn't need to take apart the board. The little things they threw in the game are fun too. However this isn't the original. So here the comparison:
- It's not as solidly made. The parts of the game board you attach are made of a lot thinner plastic and aren't made to stay on the board when you pack up back in the box.
- The spinning wheel is a travesty of design compared to the original. It's just a plastic wheel you drop in it's place. No effort was made to reduce friction and give it that "flywheel" feel.
- The game is still fun in spite of all this.
This Simpsons version of course adds the flavor of Springfield to the mix. Many of the landmarks you recall from the TV show are there along with a mess of little details that make the game fun for fans. I won't go so far as to say it's a dream come true for major fans expecting lots of trivia and inside jokes, but it's still fun.
I can understand why it was cheaply made. Companies cut corners all the time. I don't like the fact they did so on the spinning wheel here as that does cut into the quality of the game significantly. However the rest is understandable and acceptable. All in all I still recommend this for Simpsons and Game of Life fans. Just don't spend a whole lot of money on it.
