It is a semi-complicated game, to be sure. There is quite a bit of board set-up, but it is visually quite interesting. It is not a rowdy game, but one of thought and strategy which makes it an interesting game.
On the downside, the directions can be overwhelming at first, as there are several pages. We're still figuring out some of the rules. However, one appreciates the in-depth rules as you start to play the game and have further questions.
Buying the game with the three add-ons already included is the way to go! As an added bonus, one learns about how colors are made (blue + yellow = green). This board game is made of high quality materials. It has a lot of parts and pieces to it and each is well made. There are a lot of pop-out game pieces that are made of very thick cardboard, so they should hold up for a long time.
(We have played the game only once so far, so these comments are based on that one game).
