I bought this game for my family to play together. The premise of Take Four is to build your own crossword puzzle, as fast as you can, using the lettered tiles provided. Everyone plays at the same time, so you don't have to wait for the other player to finish his "round." The person who has the least amount of points at the end of the game is the winner.
Word games (Scrabble, Quiddler, Upwords) are my favorite and I'm great at them. So, when my family and I played Take Four, I was way too good and way too fast for them. My family members are VERY good at word games, but just not at the same skill-level as I. My husband and daughter were very frustrated because they couldn't keep up with me.
I really did love this game, but my family and I agreed that it may be best for the people playing to be at or about the same skill level. I'm listing this game as a 5-star because I really do think most people would enjoy it. My family rated between a 2 and 3 because they didn't enjoy playing it with me. I think they would rate it higher if I wasn't a factor. Lastly, I also bought the game Lexicon at the same time and my family LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it because there was a balance of skill, luck and strategy.

Word Jam Card Game Review

There are a few reason that make this game quite good.
First and foremost: it's fun! Well, if you like clever, "brainy" games, that is: those who prefer a more luck-based, tactical, or physical game will probably just go "meh!". But for those (like me) who like to play with words and letters, Word Jam is a blast.
Second: it's educational for all ages, and I do mean -all ages-. Also, it's good for keeping your brain and memory agile and well-trained.
Third, which is a bonus feature for those of us who know or are learning foreign languages, it's multi-lingual. It comes with Italian, French and German instructions besides English, but can readily be adapted to any language that uses the Latin alphabet. This makes it a terrific learning aid, especially for kids learning a second language in school.

Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves are in front of the cave containing fabulous treasure. "Open... Sesame! Crocodile! Admiral!" But of the magic word needed to open the cave... they remember only the consonants! A 'word' and 'betting' game for clever sultans. This card game consists of two decks: a deck of topics and a deck of consonants. Both decks are shuffled and five consonants are dealt. The first consonant may not be used by the players in their word but the other consonants may be used and are assigned values of one, two or three. The topic is read aloud and the players must think up a word that fits the topic and uses any or all of the permissible consonants but not the forbidden consonant. The first to think up a word announces it and totals its value. The other players, then, secretly decide whether anyone else can come up with a higher scoring word. Once the players have voted anyone who thinks a higher scoring can been generated has an additional twenty seconds (a sand timer is included) to announce that word. Points are scored based on who came up with the round's winning word and who was on the right in the voting.
