(More customer reviews)This is the ONLY reasonably priced chess set that I could find which would encourage a young girl's interest in the game. There are many such sets for boys. It is a great set and my daughter really enjoys it. The pieces are recognizable enough that one can easily move between this and a traditional chess set. Two drawbacks are: 1) the chess "board" that comes with this set is the metal one printed on the back of the box. It is not easy or pleasant to use. I bought my daughter a red and white vinyl roll up board and bag from a chess website - we don't use their box at all. 2) The red and pink knights are a bit difficult, but not impossible, to distinguish from one another. In general, I highly recommend this set - lots of little girls are drawn to it. My daughter who just turned five is now pretty good at and definitely interested in the game.
