Crosswise Review

I bought Crosswise to play with my two children, ages 6 and 8, though it would also be great just for adults. The rules are easy to learn and can be modified for younger children. Within the same game, you could even play the "adult" rules for the adult and the modified rules for the child. This game is a good way for children to discover and then use various strategies on which tile to play - a usual, colored tile or a special tile (move/remove/swap tile). They also learn to plan ahead and try to figure out the other person's strategy. The game board is very durable since the pieces are made out of thick plastic. The games have been taking 15-20 minutes.

Gobblet Review

I'm a teenager that loves games. I like board games, pencil and paper games, card games, sports...ALL KINDS!! I got GOBBLET for christmas last year. I started playing with my dad and thought this is ok...until he beat me! I was determined to win against him. On the last week of Christmas Break, we played at least 40 games. It's the most engrossing, fun, stategical game I've played. It combines the simplicity of Tic-Tac-Toe with the strategy of Chess and adds a little bit of Memory.
The Object is to aline four of your pieces in a row. Simple right? well the other player can gobble up your smaller pieces. You can gobble up his. It gets tricky to out smart your opponent, but it's ridiculously FUN!
It's for two players and each person gets either black pieces or tan pieces. The pieces are quite nice. They will last longer than ten years if they aren't lost. The board is also nice. The company that makes it, made it extra nice. Everything's made of wood that can take a beating.
Gobblet is the best, most fun game that I own!

4 Way Spelldown Wooden Game Review

My kids are in grade 2 and grade 4, and they are having a lot of fun with this game. An added benefit is that it works great as a travel/car game. I would actually like to see a few more letters on each side of the board, but it's fine as is for a good challenge. The kids are learning letter combinations and new words, so it's fun and educational. I would recommend it for kids from grade 1-grade 5.

Tomy Screwball Scramble Game Review

Similar to "Mousetrap" in that the young player must figure out how things work to succeed, this game focuses on getting the ball from the start of the course to the end. It is similar to the "Labyrith" games but instead of just tipping the table to roll the ball, the player must get the ball through a series of brain puzzles to move on to the next section. My 6 yr old son loves this game and will play with it for long periods of time. He sticks with it even after many of the adults have thrown in the towel. This game is highly recommended.

Mindware Flip 4 Strategic Game Review

I bought this game for my 3rd grade daughter who is struggeling to remember her basic math facts (although she can remember every lyric to any song!) ~ it's fun, and she enjoys playing. You can play a game in only a few minutes before dinner - or involve the family for more competition. My kindergartner loves it, too. Perhaps he'll be more proficient with his facts as a result of playing this game with his older sister!

Qwirkle Board Game Review

Qwirkle Board Game

As a mom with 6 kids of different ages, I look for games that my younger ones can play but that don't make me crazy with boredom (ie CandyLand, Chutes and Ladders) My 4 year old can only make it through 1/2 a game, the end gets too complex for him, but my 7, 10, and 12 year old boys love it, as do my in-laws and everyone else who has played it with us. I like games that only take minute to explain and start playing but that have enough strategy to keep the mind occupied. Also at 30-45 minutes a round, it's enough of a distraction but doesn't take hours to play. The game consists of wooden tiles with 6 different shapes and colors and that's it. Very durable, my 4 year old loves to build Qwirkle castles. I recommend this game. My other favorites are Blokus, Othello and Rummikube, all the same genre, fun, easy to explain and play and yet a challenge.
