We didnt play it like it suggested, we had the 6-8 players but I invited 50 people and had them all bring a Hawaiian dish to past and had them all wear Hawaiian clothes and gave out leis when they all arrived. I then divided everyone up and had 6 tables of people to all "help" their character figure out who dun it. I have had many parties before but this one was the first murder. I cant believe how much fun everyone had and the reaction I got on how everyone loved it! I am already planning the next one and I know I will have more people next time. I think only having 6-8 people to "play' this game with is a waste! Everyone has Hawaiian things to wear and it was a blast!

(More customer reviews)We have played three of these murder mysteries now. This one was the least entertaining. The story was not as well developed as in the others. The information for each round was not complex enough to generate a lot of enjoyable discussion. The setting was not as exotic. If you are looking to play one of these games, I recommend the "Tragical Mystery Tour", with a hippie theme, in the same series.
As for educational value and durability, that's not really the point of any of these murder mysteries. The themes are mature, and they are targeted for adults, who want escapism not education. There is no durability, as they can be played one time, after which the murder is solved and the mystery is over.

(More customer reviews)Ok, I'm going to explain in brief if you are not familiar with this game, but if you've done this before, skip down to the next paragraph. Basically, 4 males and 4 females (you can reverse roles, it isn't very restrictive) get together one night, and a murder have been committed (usually the imaginery host that invited the guests is killed.) Now the 8 players will try to figure out who done the horrible crime. Each person has a manual that gives out clues and with them you try to figure out who's the guilty one by conversation. Usually dinner is served and the whole game is actually pretty involved, mine takes about 4-5 hours.
Alright, enough ranting, lets discuss why you would want to buy this game. Again, if you have experienced this before, you know that this is a lot of fun, its a good way to spend a few hours with 7 of your friends. This is all about interactions, and so you get to see how your friends react when pressed and how well they can persuade others to believe their arguments. Game is very innovative, from costumes to preparing dinner to the story and the solution, I wouldn't say this game is educational, but it does help one to think deductively and inductively, it practices one to be observant and to ask questions. There is a lot to this game and this episode is one of my favorite. Treat yourself to a night of fun and intrigue, and as a suggestion to newcomers, try the first few episodes, they are relatively easy and quick to solve, helps you to get the hang of this game.

How to Host a Murder: The Watersdown Affair Review

(More customer reviews)This was the first murder mystery game in which my 30-something friends and I had ever participated. Overall, the night was a hit. But much preparation is required on the part of the host for it to be a success. We actually did a few things which I believe made the evening a success: 1) I invited friends that were more extraverted and would "ham" up getting in costume and acting out their parts; 2) I talked to others who had played the game before and got a sense of how the rounds were to be played. I then gave a "role play" to my guests of how the "rounds" were to be acted out; 3) We had a gift certificate as a prize for the winner whose accusation best matched the solution; 4)I changed the schedule from the instructions and started the party earlier in order to serve dinner earlier and not have hungry guests; and finally 5) we did not play a "round" at dinner, but instead took a break and just had regular conversation to break up the evening. I do agree that it's not as clear as one would expect as to "who done it." However, this was because much of the facts which the game instructs each character to try to conceal will remain concealed unless those characters are pressed for information by the others. The game instructs you not to lie, just to try to conceal certain facts. I recommend telling your guests to phrase questions requiring only "yes" or "no" answers (a "cross-examination" method) in order to get those facts out. For example, rather than saying, "Why were you meeting with the gardener at 4pm?" instead you could make an inference and ask, "Isn't it true that you met with the gardener in order to conspire to murder the decedent?". I hope this review is helpful.

University Games Murder Mystery Party Game - Murder at Mardi Gras Review

(More customer reviews)Having never done ANYTHING like this before, I will say we were a bit skeptical of how the evening (and game) would turn out...but our Saturday night "Murder Mystery" event was SO much fun - we can't wait to throw another murder party! The Murder at Mardi Gras had so many twists and turns. It really was like an "adult" game of Clue that involves everyone. The scripts allow you to read your part(s) and then ask questions at the end of each chapter. My boyfriend and I invited three other couples, and we participated the entire time (no one, not even the host, knows who the murderer is beforehand). We found out after the game was over the "murderer" read on Page 1 that he/she had done it, and was instructed to play the game normally, trying not to reveal too much. The booklets sometimes suggest answers and questions, which also puts a spin on things. It was a lot of fun, and everyone really got into their parts. Although our Southern (Bayou?) accents weren't the best, we all had a blast reading through our parts and discussing who we suspected of being the murderer. Knowing the participants wouldn't enjoy Cajun-type food, I served pasta, salad, garlic bread, and an array of appetizers. I also had a chocolate fountain with a display of strawberries, brownies, marshmallows and pretzels for dipping. I gave each participant a "Mardi Gras" gift bag with a fun mask attached to each bag (yes, I go a little overboard!). We cannot wait to host the next Murder Party...which is "A Taste for Wine and Murder". Woohoo!

Murder Mystery Party - Pasta, Passion and Pistols Review

(More customer reviews)This is the second murder mystery game we've played and while we had fun, we thought this one could have been better. The story line was fine, the menu was good, and the decorations were easy to make or buy. We had fun playing the game and we didn't think the mystery was unsolvable (even though only one person guessed correctly). We had a good time with our horrible accents and people did a good job with their costumes.
The part we were disappointed in was the "Extra Players" part. This game is actually for 6 players, even though it says you can invite 8. We invited 3 other couples to the party, and the couple that played the extra parts (Father Alfredo and Clair Voyant) felt very left out. They had very few lines, weren't suspects in the mystery, and their parts were pretty lame. I felt this game could have included them more if they had better parts, even if they still weren't suspects in the mystery. I would suggest that if you have friends who aren't likely to get into the game to give them the extra players' parts. They can easily sit by the wayside and not do much and still enjoy what the other players are doing.
Overall it was fun and I enjoyed the Italian/New York theme, but just keep in mind that it's really a game for 6.
