First off, I have ALL the Arkham series games from creator Fantasy Flight Games, and with my interest in military history, I figured on giving this game a try...and I'm VERY happy that I did! The game advertises a "Pathfinding System". What this does is color code every available space on the map. If your target is on a space of the same color, you can see them. So, if you're in a room of yellow spaces, you can see all the yellow spaces in the room, but not the red ones in the next room...however, if you stand right int he doorway, your space is red AND yellow, because you can see into BOTH rooms. Once you actually get into playing this, you can't help but appreciate the innovation in making this simple yet VERY effective rule. This gets rid of arguements on "who can see who" and having obscure rules on what rooms/hallways you can see into/down.
Another cool rule is that when fielding your characters, you can pick a pre-made loadout of equipment, which gives you an extra, unique item for that character, OR you can scrap the pre-made loadouts and create your own. So if you're sick of games where one person always has a great gun but garbage secondary gear, you can now custom design your character to your specific play style.
Both above ideas seem simple, but REALLY set this game apart from other adventure/dungeon games on the market. Also, new characters, equipment and rules are being released, some of which are free on their website.
So overall, if you enjoy "run and shoot" videogames and RPG/adventure/dungeon boardgames or videogames, then I have to honestly say this is a MUST HAVE game.
