He becomes absorbed with fitting the pegs into the holes and sorting and re-sorting the shapes onto the pegs. This is a quiet toy, which makes it ideal to take along to restaurants or church. Even better: if any pieces get lost, you can phone for replacements. The shapes can also be used as a first lacing toy -- my son likes to string them on a shoelace. The pieces are washable, too, which is great in a toddler toy. And don't think this toy is just for toddlers: a visiting 5-year-old friend was having so much fun playing with it that she didn't want to quit when it was time to leave!
