(More customer reviews)This is a great two player game in the tradition of Othello, Go and Pente. It's simple to play and suitable for kids as young as 7 or 8 yet still challenging enough for adults. The board is heavy, sturdy wood (1/2 inch thick) and the stones are nice and weighty, with extras in case you lose them.
The game is very simple: each person chooses a color (white or black) The first player picks a stone from the bag without looking and then, after seeing what color it is, places it on the board in one of the holes. The second player then picks a stone, also without looking, and then, after seeing what color it is, places it on the board in a hole in either of the rows that intersect where the previous piece was placed. The trick is, you could pick either your own piece, the other person's piece, or a clear "wildcard" piece. If the piece is yours, you try to find a place where you will get a three stones in a row. If the piece is your opponent's piece, you try to put it where s/he won't get three in a row, but you won't mess up your own configuration. If the piece is clear, you try to put it where you will get three in a row but your opponent won't.
Sounds complicated but it's really very simple, easy to learn (i'm sure their directions are much better than mine) and good for hours of play.

3 Stones takes just a minute to learn but offers a lifetime of gaming pleasure. Place 3 stones of your color in a row, across, up-and-down, or diagonally, while preventing your opponent from doing so. Just two things to remember -- you have to play in the same row or column as the last play, and, you must play whatever you draw, even if it's your opponent's color. The clear stones count for both players. Try to score as many points as you can, and keep score right on the board.
3 Stones is part of Enginuity's Signature Collection of solid wood and glass board games that look good enough to keep on display. Game includes solid wood board, 4 nickel-plated scoring pegs, 80 glass stones and wooden ring. For 2 players.
