This was the first time I'd played a Max Haines murder mystery game and it was a bit disappointing. I've played quite a few of the "How to Host a Murder Mystery" series and was used to the full-color character booklets, map of the crime scene, etc, so the b&w photocopy printouts of the character booklets and place cards in this game was a little disappointing. I could overlook it if the mystery turned out to be a good one but again, I was underwhelmed. Instead of having 2-3 things to Reveal and Conceal each round, Last Call only had one per round and they were very obviously written to be said in a certain order, so it took a lot of the fun and spontanaity out of the game for us. The worst thing is, because the murderer was allowed to lie about his whereabouts, etc, it was really hard to pin down whodunit (initially, the fact that the murderer already knew sounded interesting to me, but it doesn't really work). The mystery overall had a few odd and illogical plot holes in it too. Which is really disappointing because I'd heard this series was pretty good. Oh well, guess I'll stick to "How to Host a Murder Mystery" from now on...
