Poker's Wild Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)This is a fun game, especially if you like poker. The purpose of the game is to attempt to form 5-card poker hands from cards laid on the playing board, and you score a certain number of points depending on what hand you form (blank score sheets included, but not necessary). Each player is dealt 5 cards, and plays one card and draws one card per turn. There are two wild card spots on the board, as well as two wild cards in the deck. There's a fair amount of strategy involved, since you need to be able to see potential scoring hands in four different directions from any particular card. You play until all the cards are gone; high score is the winner.
One problem, though - if you lay a card down, and you have more than one scorable hand from playing that card, the rules don't state if you can count all the potential hands, or just one. This is something you'll need to decide for yourself. And - this is perhaps a minor quibble - the board is folded up into eight sections, so folding and unfolding it can get a little tricky! Obviously the makers were wanting to keep the box compact, so they had to get fancy with the board folding.
The box says the game is for ages 12 and up. The main reason this would be difficult to play with younger children is that there are 10 potential scoring hands, so unless players are already familiar with winning poker hands, it can be a pretty big challenge.
As an interesting side note, my husband commented that the game is similar to Sequence, and the box says that the game was created by the makers of Sequence.
