(More customer reviews)It's definitely made at the lowest possible cost, and it doesn't allow you to stop in the middle of the game, close it and continue, as some travel games do. In other words, the game's on the outside, not the inside. The dice are almost too small to hold and roll, but just work. There's no rim on the edge of the board, so you can't play this on a plane... dice will be under the seats and gone forever in about 2 rolls. But, it's small and it's light and it works... just.

(More customer reviews)Product shipped very quickly. Looks great, just like the picture. Good size. Wooden pieces are very light, have a very cheap feel. Biggest surprise -- this item doesn't close! I guess that's what "table top" means, I suppose I should have known that (I thought it would fold like most other sets). So look at the picture, and realize that's exactly what you get -- an always-open backgammon game. Reasonable for the given price, but more serious backgammon players probably need to spend more for a closable set with more solid pieces.

The leather is a patch work of leather pieces, with some visible and ugly stitching. Leather or not, I didn't feel this was worth spending $100 on.

(More customer reviews)The actual board is very nice! The stitching is solid and the textures and colors are very pleasing. However, the company really went cheap with the checkers. After 3 games, I noticed that at least 3 of the checkers have some nasty cracks in them, like they were cured improperly.
I will be getting some higher quality checkers, but the board is pretty nice!

After a year of sitting on the shelf he rediscovered his gift and played it constantly with his friends. It is fairly light and easy to carry around. It is also very durable with no signs of wear after 3 or so years.

(More customer reviews)This is a nice backgammon set. As other reviewers have mentioned, I find the surface easy to scratch...but that will just give it character!! The cups were not felt lined but my wife is doing that for me. The pips are very heavy, almost too heavy, and were solidly stuck together when I opened them. I had to pry them apart with a screwdriver, scratching several of them in the process. All of the minor inconveniences aside, I look forward to many years of backgammoning my opponents!!

Adding felt to the inside of the cups would have increased the 'classiness' of the set, and allowed the set to be more enjoyable to use.

I'd recommend the next size smaller. The case and lining seem very well made though, with the outside of the case having a nice padding.
