This was our first Murder Mystery Dinner Party and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Some suggestions we would make are first, if you provide each character with their background information prior to the party which includes their public and private information. Also provide each character with the cast information. In providing this information the dinner guest feels more prepared and less overwhelmed especially at the beginning of the party.
Secondly, the directions are VERY generic and are not specific to the game. You will have to make several assumptions for example, the police report is the evidence to be read and an audio tape was not included with this game - the information was located on the CD. Also, the evidence in the police report should be displayed exactly as it is written. Some of it is key to solving the mystery.
Thirdly, we would like to share the evening itinerary, which seemed to work out well.
1.We served appetizers and drinks while the guests read the background information. Then the party gathered together and listened to the CD information. Then each guest read aloud from their booklet to introduce themselves.
2.Each character read Chapter 1 and dispersed into discussion groups for discussion.
3.After Chapter 1 was concluded, each character read chapter 2 while dinner was being finalized. During dinner, Chapter 2 was discussed.
4.During cleanup of dinner, the characters read chapter 3 information. Chapter 3 was then discussed after dinner cleanup was finished.
5.Dessert was served while guests reviewed their notes to make the final determination of who was the murderer.
6.Each individual announced their own conclusions.
One final suggestion is that it really helped when the characters came in costume.
