I am a speech pathologist and this is hands down the favored game of my students. While I love the shape game on one side, the best game is the traveling game from home to school. Using a special die, you roll a color and advance to that color (no reading involved). If you roll a white blank space you draw from the card pile--it could send you to Barber shop (close to winning) or it could send you to the farm (back near start). There is no telling where you end up and that is why I love it. One child may look like he is winning but can be moved far from winning in the next roll. It works great in therapy as an attention keeper. If you get bored with any of the games, play them backward. Have the kids go from school to home, suddenly the cards are valued differently! Tired of matchin the shapes on the board, play it so that the first person to clear the shapes from their already made up scene wins...turn the games upside down and make the fun extend a LONG way into the future. My Games to Grow on is nearing 11 years old...and it is still a favorite.

Preschoolers are ready to expand their horizons and achievements, to seek out new information, explore new territory and make sense of all they encounter. These two games provide lots of new experiences. Gettin' to School helps children learn to identify different people and places in their community. Promotes cognitive thinking by asking players to associate familiar objects with these people and places. Teaches color recognition. Helps children practice patience as they wait their turn and, possibly, recapture lost progress. Build It Up! helps children identify basic geometric shapes without the aid of color. Promotes fine motor skills by asking children to manipulate shapes. Teaches children the importance and rewards of completing a project. Familiar themes make this a terrific introduction to board games for preschoolers. These games are for children 4 and up.
