(More customer reviews)This is a great chess set for the money! I chose standard shipping and it got here a day early! The pieces are of great quality and the king is actually over 3" tall! The quality of the board is very nice though. The top squares and top surface is a thin wafer of wood on top of particle board and the sides/frame is made of solid wood. It is very sturdy and smooth. The hinges are strong, and the inside is lined with felt and each piece has a elastic to hold it down while traveling. Overall this set is perfect for a 1st set.
