I'll start with the bad...I give this four stars out of five for two reasons: excessively high price and some questions about how long this will last. There are 100 foam pieces, and no extras provided in case one gets lost. How long until one does get lost? Also, the thin strip of magnet is glued onto the back of the foam, and I have my doubts about how long the glue will hold.
Other than that, it's a great manipulative. The possible glue problem notwithstanding, it does seem to be pretty sturdy. (For $30, it ought to be!) The great thing about this tool is that it lets kids visualize and play with all sorts of mathematical facts. It acts as a 100-long number line, and stepping down or up is the same as adding or subtracting 10. The instructions/suggestions for games on the enclosed sheet is short but useful.
