The lines are of golden paint that look great against the almost black board, which appears darker than depicted in the photo, but when used with glass stones the gold paint rubs off onto the black stones leaving them tarnished and wearing away at the playing surface. Furthermore, great care must be taken not to scratch the finish on this board.
