I bought this for New Game on the Block Night last week and it was a resounding success. It takes about two minutes to figure out how to play, and then you're off. Three spins of the spinner get you started and tell you all you need to know for each round: which letter your word should begin with, what other letter it should contain (and preferably end in, to score more points), and what your category is. The scoring system uses 3 points, 2 points and 1 point, depending on how you use the letters and whether your words belong to the category for the round. An example: if the category is Names, your first Letter S and the other letter H, you'd score 3 points for Sarah (S as first letter and H as last letter), and 2 points for Sheila (since the H is not used as the last letter). If you can't think of any Names (the category for the round), and write down an unrelated word like Shout instead, you get only 1 point. You can write up to three words on your pad per round, and you have one minute in all...so it gets frantic. The best tip I learned is to write down the words as they come to mind, and correct them later if there is time -- you get no points for blank spaces. Keep writing down answers -- they all add up in the end. Great word game!

If you love word games...get ready for WORDPLAY. It's fast-paced, challenging, and easy to learn - and everyone plays every round! The spinner determines the letters and category for each round. For instance, the category might be "Food & Drink", and you may be looking for words that begin with a 'P' and contain an 'A' - 'Pizza' and 'Pasta' may come to mind, or maybe 'Pancakes' and 'Peaches'. What about "Places" that start with a 'B' and contain an 'N'? You may think of 'Boston' or 'Birmingham'. If you can't think of any "Places" with those letters, you can still score points - just fewer - by coming up with words outside the category, like 'Banjo', 'Bargain', etc. You get the picture. There are different ways to score points, and the more points you score the more spaces you advance on the board. Every round provides a whole new challenge, and there are countless possible combinations to wrap your mind around. WORDPLAY is addictive fun that will make your head spin!
